This study aimed to assess the time-dependent r...Superplasticizers are widely used to reduce the pipe flow resistance of cemented paste backfill(CPB), which is characterised by high concentration and high yield stress. This study aimed to assess the time-dependent rheological properties of CPB containing superplasticizer, with special focus on static yield stress and thixotropy. The results indicate that with the increase of the superplasticizer dosage, the static yield stress, dynamic yield stress and thixotropy of CPB decreased significantly, while the plastic viscosity decreased slightly. The curing time has a significant effect on the static yield stress, dynamic yield stress and thixotropy of CPB containing superplasticizer, which increase by 46.6%-87.1%,15.2%-35.6% and 79.4%-138.2%, respectively, within 2 h. The static yield stress, dynamic yield stress and thixotropy of CPB without superplasticizer only increase by 4.9%, 6.3% and 16.1%, respectively, within 2 h. The curing time has a significant influence on the plastic viscosity of CPB regardless of superplasticizer addition, the plastic viscosity increases by 13.2%-19.7% within 2 h. Regardless of superplasticizer dosage, plotting of both static yield stress and dynamic yield stress versus thixotropy produces clearly linear curves. The findings of this study are conducive to the design of pipe transportation of CPB containing superplasticizer.展开更多

According to test results, it can be found that the intact Middle Pleistocene Epoch loess has the properties of shear dilatancy and shear shrinkage. With the increase of confining pressure, stress-strain curve develops from softening to hardening. The failure mode of intact Middle Pleistocene Epoch loess is shear failure with the rupture angle between 55° and 61°. And it is better to determine the yield stress (py, qy) of the intact loess under different confining pressures by using the εv-q/p curve. Along with the increase of confining pressure, yield deviatoric stress qy and yield spherical stress py present logarithmic relationship. Besides, the strength parameters, elastic modulus K and G of intact loess, are obtained, which are benefit for loess projects design.展开更多
As a major mode choice of commuters for daily travel, bus transit plays an important role in many urban and metropolitan areas. This work proposes a mathematical model to optimize bus service by minimizing total cost ...As a major mode choice of commuters for daily travel, bus transit plays an important role in many urban and metropolitan areas. This work proposes a mathematical model to optimize bus service by minimizing total cost and considering a temporally and directionally variable demand. An integrated bus service, consisting of all-stop and stop-skipping services is proposed and optimized subject to directional frequency conservation, capacity and operable fleet size constraints. Since the research problem is a combinatorial optimization problem, a genetic algorithm is developed to search for the optimal result in a large solution space. The model was successfully implemented on a bus transit route in the City of Chengdu, China, and the optimal solution was proved to be better than the original operation in terms of total cost. The sensitivity of model parameters to some key attributes/variables is analyzed and discussed to explore further the potential of accruing additional benefits or avoiding some of the drawbacks of stop-skipping services.展开更多

The analysis not only included the whole city but also the u...Changsha,a typical city in central China,was selected as the study area to assess the variations of ecosystem service value on the basis of land-use change. The analysis not only included the whole city but also the urban district where the landscape changed more rapidly in the center of the city. Two LANDSAT TM data sets in 1986 and 2000 and land use data of five urban districts from 1995 to 2005 were used to estimate the changes in the size of six land use categories. Meanwhile,previously published value coefficients were used to detect the changes in the value of ecosystem services delivered by each land category. The result shows that the total value of ecosystem services in Changsha declines from $1 009.28 million per year in 1986 to $938.11 million per year in 2000. This decline is largely attributable to the increase of construction land,and the conversion from woodland and water body to cropland to keep the crop production. In the five districts,there is $6.19 million decline in ecosystem service value between 1995 and 2005. Yuelu District has the highest unit ecosystem service value while Yuhua District has the lowest one. This may be attributed to the greater conversion from cropland and grassland to woodland and water body with the increase of construction land in Yuelu District. It is suggested that the increase rate of construction land should be controlled rigorously and the area of woodland and water body should be increased or at least retained in the study area.展开更多
