The method of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) was used. The flow field velocity distribution in both cross section and longitudinal section within cyclonic zone was studied for different circulating volumes. The cross sectional vortex was also analyzed. The results show that in cross section as the circulating volume increases from 0.187 to 0.350 m 3 /h, the flow velocity ranges from 0 to 0.68 m/s. The flow field is mainly a non-vortex potential flow that forms a free vortex without outside energy input. In the cyclonic region the vortex deviates from the center of the flotation column because a single tangential opening introduces circulating fluid into the column. The tangential component of the velocity plays a defining role in the cross section. In the longitudinal section the velocity ranges from 0 to 0.08 m/s. The flow velocity increases as does the circulating volume. Advantageous mineral separation conditions arise from the combined effects of cyclonic flow in cross and longitudinal section.展开更多

The cell is horizontally vibrated to eliminate the effect of gravity compaction. The velocity distributions at different particle number densities are studied and found to obey the form exp[-β(|Vy|/σy)α], in which Vy and (σy are velocity and its variance in the transverse direction, and α and β are fitting parameters. The value of α is found to decrease with the number density of particles increasing. To investigate the effect of the bottom plate, the molecular dynamics simulation without considering any bottom friction is performed. The accordance between the simulation result and the experimental result shows that the influence of bottom plate friction force on the high energy tail of the velocity distribution can be neglected.展开更多

The particle image velocimetry (PIV) and the hot-wire anemometer are utilized to measure the flowfields and the velocity profiles of the actuator with different actuating factors. Analytical results show that pairs of counter-rotating vortices are generated near the nozzle. With the development of the synthetic ject, the synthetic jet rapidly spreads in the slot-width direction; while in the slot-length direction, it contracts firstly and slowly spreads. The centerline velocity distribution has a up-down tendency varying with axial distances, and accelerates to its maximum at z/b= 10. The transverse velocity profile across the slot-width is centro-symmetric and self-similar. However, the velocity profiles across the slot-length are saddle-like near the nozzle. It shows that there are two resonance frequencies for the actuator. If the actuator works with the resonance frequency, the vorticity and the velocity of the synthetic jet are higher than those of other frequencies. Compared with the continuous jet, the synthetic jet shows special flow characteristics.展开更多

The three- fold integral and the new Debye cutoff parameter, which were introduced by CHANG and LI, are applied. Therefore, divergence difficulties and the customary replacement of relative velocity g by thermal velocity vth are naturally avoided. The probability function P(v, Av) for non- Maxwellian scattering is derived by the method of choosing velocity transfer Av, which is a true measure of collision intensity, as an independent variable. The method enables the difference between small-angle scattering and small-momentum-transfer collisions of the inverse-square force to be well clarified. With the help of the probability function, the Fokker-Planck coefficients are obtained by a normal original Fokker-Planck approach. The friction and diffusion coefficients of the Fokker-Planck equation are modified for non-Maxwellian scattering and are used to investigate the relaxation processes for the weakly coupled plasma. The profiles of the relaxation rates show that the slowing down and deflection processes are weakened in the conditions of non-Maxwellian scattering.展开更多

In this study, X-ray photography and numerical modelling are used to examine the casing expansions under centre point, asymmetrical one-point, and asymmetrical two-point(with central angles of 45° and 90°) initiations. For enriching Fick's law, ordinary non-equilibrium statistical physics can be used to understand the complex process. By tracking particles in the simulation, we analyze the local free path. The probability distribution of the free path shows a high tail deviating from the exponential prediction. The anisotropy of the free path is found when we separate the free path to x and y components. The probability distribution of y component is exponential, while x component has a high tail. The probability distribution of angle between the relative velocity and the unit vector joined two particle centers deviates from the distribution of two random vectors, indicating the existence of the dynamic heterogeneities in our system. We explain these results by resorting to the kinetic theory with two-peak velocity distribution. The kinetic theory agrees well with the simulation result.展开更多

文摘The free path of a vibro-fluidized two-dimensional(2D) inelastic granular gas confined in a rectangular box is investigated by 2D event-driven molecular simulation. The kinetic theory agrees well with the simulation result.
