This study aimed to determine the patients who are more p...The role of Inter-facility transport (IFT) of patients is an emerging specialty requiring service reorganization, diversion of major trauma to trauma center. This study aimed to determine the patients who are more prone to en route adverse event during the period of 22:00 to 07:00, based on critical in-patient needs provided by the Emergency Department (ED) nursing staff at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital (AHNH). This study included all 22:00 to 07:00 IFTs accompanied by ED nurses at AHNH for a period of 28 months from August 2006 until December 2008. The transports were reviewed for: (1) age, (2) gender, (3) transport configuration, (4) clinical category, and (5) physiological instability before transport. A total of 79 patients were transported during the 22:00 to 07:00 timeframe within the study period. The types of patients were mainly neurosurgical emergencies (n=32; 40.5%), surgical emergencies (n=28; 35.4%), and upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) (n=11; 13.9%). En route adverse events were encountered by the accompanying nurses in 16 transports (20.3%) with a higher incidence of adverse events during transport of surgical emergencies, UGIB and patients who were physiological unstable before transport (P〈 0.05). A specialized transport team from the ED can assist other clinical departments by providing expert care during IFT. In spite of the high quality of care, adverse events do commonly occur.展开更多

The hardware is an image acquiring device und...An objectifying system for color inspections of traditional Chinese medicine (CITCM) is developed. The entire system includes two parts : The hardware and the software. The hardware is an image acquiring device under a standard lighting condition, and it mainly includes a xenon lamp with color temperature of 5 500 K as light source, an integrating sphere used for diffusing light and a high resolution CCD camera. The software is used for digital image processing, and the procedure is divided into three steps. Firstly the skin/non-skin classifi- cation is performed by utilizing the threshold in chrominance channels of the RGB color space. Secondly, the fa- cial features are localized by using the image segmentation and coordinates sorting. Finally, the facial special re- gion(SR) corresponding to five internal organs is achieved by utilizing masks designed to take advantage of mor- phology. Subsequently, the chromaticity is calculated. The system is tested by taking 83 samples of 30 young and 53 elderly people. The experiment shows that there is significant difference of all SRs between the young and the elderly, and the system has better performance for objectifying research of CITCM.展开更多

Destruction and many casualties among both the military and civilians became an inevitable consequence. A large amount of people injured were in need of life-saving treatment and a speedy return to duty. Intensive studies of the specific issues of diagnosis and treatment of thermal injury were conducted in the Soviet Union before the war. The first special units for patients with burn injuries were created, and the first specialists received their first clinical experience. The contributions of famous Soviet scientists in the development of the treatment of burns and frostbite in WWⅡ are studied in this article. The structure of thermal injuries among military personnel and the results of their treatment are shown. Treatment, classification and quantity frostbite in the structure of sanitary losses during the WWⅡ are studied in this article.展开更多
