However, this scalability is obtained with sacrifice of coding efficiency. An one-loop FGS structure is presented based on motion compensation (MC + FGS) to improve the coding efficiency of base FGS. Then it describes and discusses the hybrid spatial-SNR FGS (FGSS) structure that extends SNR scalability of FGS to spatial scalability (spatio-SNR scalability). FGSS structure inherent the low coding efficiency of FGS structure. Combining MC + FGS structure with FGSS structure, a structure of MC + FGSS structure is obtained which acquires both structures' advantages and counteracts both structures' defects. Experimental results prove the MC+ FGSS structure not only obtains fine granular spatio-SNR scalability, but also achieves high coding efficiency.展开更多

With group member increasing, traditional reliable multicast protocol can not deal with them fully. Gossip-based group key distribution idea for wide-area dissemination was provided. It is based on an gossip-based loss recovery control mechanism. It can provide a probabilistic reliable guarantee for a information dissemination to reach every group member, which can achieve scalability and reliability. To achieve full reliability, three layers protocol model in group key distribution was provided. One is best effect layer, which provides unreliable dissemination. Other is gossip-based loss recovery layer, which provides probabilistic reliable guarantee. Last is vsync-based layer, which provide deterministic loss recovery. We integrate probabilistic loss recovery method with deterministic one. The model possess scalability that probabilistic method has and full reliability prosthesis by vsync-based. To evaluate the effectiveness of gossip technique in scalable and reliable multicast protocols. We have compared gossip protocol with other reliable multicast protocols. The users were divided into several subgroups managed by different sub-blenders, and all sub-blenders were managed by the main-blender using two layers management scheme. The identity information of members are distributed on different sub-blenders, which makes each member keep much less information and network overload greatly reduce. The anonymity and the overhead of the new scheme were analyzed and compared with that of Crowds, which shows the cost of storage and network overhead for the new scheme largely decreases while the anonymity is little degraded. The experiment results also show that the new system architecture is well scalable. The ratio of management cost of SACS to that of Crowds is about 1:25 while the value of P(1|H1+) only increases by 0.001-0.020, which shows that SACS keeps almost the same anonymity with Crowds.展开更多

Unli...A genetic-optimization framework based on the partial cooperation communication protocol is proposed for scalable video coding (SVC) stream transmission under multi-relay amplify and forward cooperative networks. Unlike traditional cooperative transmission schemes, the transmission mode for each coded unit in this new protocol can be switched flexibly between direct transmission and cooperative transmission. Obviously, under this protocol, the bandwidth efficiency and transmission robustness can be balanced adaptively according to the priority level of coded units and wireless channel fading characteristics. Based on this, a well-known genetic optimization algorithm-differential evolution is exploited here to find the jointly optimal transmission modes, power allocation and unequal error protection (UEP) channel coding strategies to minimize the end to end reconstructed video distortion. Extensive simulation results show that, compared with classical optimal cooperative UEP transmission schemes, the proposed optimized transmission framework based on the partial cooperative protocol can bring significant peak-signal-to-noise-ratio (PSNR) gains for the reconstructed video in a variety of channel bandwidth, power budget and test sequences.展开更多

Thanks to the list structure, the new coding algorithm achieves fine fractional bit-plane coding with negligible additional complexity. Experiments show that it performs comparably or better than the state-of-the-art coders. Furthermore, the flexible codec supports both quality and resolution scalability, which is very attractive in many network applications.展开更多
