However, spectrum fragmentation issue becomes more serious in SDM-EONs compared with simple elastic optical networks(EONs) with single mode fiber or single core fiber. In this paper, multicore virtual concatenation(MCVC) scheme is first proposed considering inter-core crosstalk to solve the spectrum fragmentation issue in SDM-EONs. Simulation results show that the proposed MCVC scheme can achieve better performance compared with the baseline scheme, i.e., single-core virtual concatenation(SCVC) scheme, in terms of blocking probability and spectrum utilization.展开更多

The research results show that this method can reduce the walk- off effect and can therefore equalize the nonlinear impairments effectively. Compared with the only other existing nonlinearity pre-compensation method, the joint nonlinearity and chromatic dispersion pre-compensation method is not only suitable for low-dispersion optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing system, but also effective for high- dispersion optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing transmission system with higher input power but without optical dispersion compensation. The suggested solution does not increase computation complexity compared with only nonlinearity pre-compensation method. For 40 Gbit/s coherent optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing 20 × 80 km standard single-mode fibre system, the suggested method can improve the nonlinear threshold (for Q 〉 10 dB) about 2.7, 1.2 and 1.0 dB, and the maximum Q factor about 1.2, 0.4 and 0.3 dB, for 2, 8 and 16 ps/(nm.km) dispersion coefficients.展开更多

Compared with the previous scheme, the time-division multiplexer and the time-division demultiplexer are applied in the optical analog-to-digital converter(OADC) at the same time, the design of the OADC is simplified and the performance of the OADC based on time-division demultiplexer is improved. A core optical part of the system is demonstrated with a sample rate of 10 Gs/s. The signals in three channels are demultiplexed from the optical pulses. The result proves our scheme is feasible.展开更多

In OOFDM-based flexible optical networks, Routing and Spectrum Assignment (RSA) has become a key problem. However, widely used dynamic RSA schemes, such as Fixed Routing (FR) and K-shortest Paths (KSP) routing schemes, are not able to realize route computation based on the link state information, thus leading to poor blocking performance and inefficient resource utilization. To solve this problem, Adaptive Routing (AR) schemes, e.g., the Entire Path Searching (EPS) scheme, have been proposed recently. These schemes have low blocking probability; however, since their computational complexities are factorial, they are not suitable for use in real networks. In this paper, we propose a novel Spectrum-Scan Routing (SSR) scheme in dynamic flexible optical networks. To the best of our knowledge, SSR is the first polynomial-time AR scheme that can realize adaptive shortest-route computation. Simulation results show that our proposed SSR scheme has lower blocking probability and higher resource utilization compared with FR and EPS. Moreover, the worst-case computational complexity of SSR increases linearly with the network scale of the torus topologies, making it applicable to real networks.展开更多

It reuses downstream light for the upstream modulation, which retrenches lasers assembled at each optical network unit (ONU), and ultimately cuts down the cost of ONUs a great deal. Meanwhile, a 50-km-reach WDM-PON experiment with 10-Gb/s inverse-duobinary-RZ downstream and 6-Gb/s DPSK upstream is demonstrated here. It is revealed to be a novel cost-effective alternative for the next generation access network.展开更多
