Multi-stage and multi-objective optimization of anti-typhoon evacuation strategy for riser with new hang-off system

A new hang-off system has been proposed to improve the security of risers in hang-off modes during typhoons.However,efficient anti-typhoon evacuation strategies have not been investigated.Optimiza-tion model and method for the anti-typhoon evacuation strategies should be researched.Therefore,multi-objective functions are proposed based on operation time,evacuation speed stability,and steering stability.An evacuation path model and a dynamic model of risers with the new hang-off system are developed for design variables and constraints.A multi-objective optimization model with high-dimensional variables and complex constraints is established.Finally,a three-stage optimization method based on genetic algorithm,least square method,and the penalty function method is proposed to solve the multi-objective optimization model.Optimization results show that the operation time can be reduced through operation parameter optimization,especially evacuation heading optimization.The optimal anti-typhoon strategy is evacuation with all risers suspended along a variable path when the direction angle is large,while evacuation with all risers suspended along a straight path at another di-rection angle.Besides,the influencing factors on anti-typhoon evacuation strategies indicate that the proposed optimization model and method have strong applicability to working conditions and remarkable optimization effects. 展开更多

A broadband polarization-independent terahertz multifunctional coding metasurface based on topological optimization using liquid crystal(LC)is proposed.The metasurface can achieve reconfigurability for beam steering and vortex beam generation within a frequency range of 0.68 THz–0.72 THz.Firstly,the metasurface unit is topologically optimized using the non-dominant sequencing genetic algorithms(NSGA-II)multi-objective optimization algorithm.By applying the LC’s electrically tunable refractive index properties,the metasurface unit enables polarization-independent 2-bit coding within a frequency range of 0.68 THz–0.72 THz.Then,based on the designed metasurface unit,the array arrangement of the metasurface is reverse-designed to achieve beam steering and vortex beam generation.The results show that,for beam steering,not only can polarization-independent steering of both single-and multi-beam be achieved within the 35°elevation angle range,but also independent control of the target angle of each beam in the multi-beam steering.For vortex beam generation,the metasurfaces can achieve the generation of single-and multi-vortex beams with topological charges l=±1,±2 within the 35elevation angle range,and the generation angles of each vortex beam in the multi-vortex beam can be independently controlled.This provides flexibility and diversity in the generation of vortex beams.Therefore,the proposed terahertz LC metasurface can realize flexible control of reconfigurable functions and has certain application prospects in terahertz communication,phased array radar,and vortex radar. 展开更多

The supercritical CO_(2) Brayton cycle is considered a promising energy conversion system for Generation IV reactors for its simple layout,compact structure,and high cycle efficiency.Mathematical models of four Brayton cycle layouts are developed in this study for different reactors to reduce the cost and increase the thermohydraulic performance of nuclear power generation to promote the commercialization of nuclear energy.Parametric analysis,multi-objective optimizations,and four decision-making methods are applied to obtain each Brayton scheme’s optimal thermohydraulic and economic indexes.Results show that for the same design thermal power scale of reactors,the higher the core’s exit temperature,the better the Brayton cycle’s thermo-economic performance.Among the four-cycle layouts,the recompression cycle(RC)has the best overall performance,followed by the simple recuperation cycle(SR)and the intercooling cycle(IC),and the worst is the reheating cycle(RH).However,RH has the lowest total cost of investment(C_(tot))of$1619.85 million,and IC has the lowest levelized cost of energy(LCOE)of 0.012$/(kWh).The nuclear Brayton cycle system’s overall performance has been improved due to optimization.The performance of the molten salt reactor combined with the intercooling cycle(MSR-IC)scheme has the greatest improvement,with the net output power(W_(net)),thermal efficiencyη_(t),and exergy efficiency(η_(e))improved by 8.58%,8.58%,and 11.21%,respectively.The performance of the lead-cooled fast reactor combined with the simple recuperation cycle scheme was optimized to increase C_(tot) by 27.78%.In comparison,the internal rate of return(IRR)increased by only 7.8%,which is not friendly to investors with limited funds.For the nuclear Brayton cycle,the molten salt reactor combined with the recompression cycle scheme should receive priority,and the gas-cooled fast reactor combined with the reheating cycle scheme should be considered carefully. 展开更多

Titanium dioxide(TiO_(2))has attracted considerable research attentions for its promising applications in solar cells and photocatalytic devices.However,the intrinsic challenge lies in the relatively low energy conversion efficiency of TiO_(2),primarily attributed to the substantial band gaps(exceeding 3.0 eV)associated with its rutile and anatase phases.Leveraging multi-objective global optimization,we have identified two quasi-layered ternary Ti-O-S crystals,composed of titanium,oxygen,and sulfur.The calculations of formation energy,phonon dispersions,and thermal stability confirm the chemical,dynamical and thermal stability of these newly discovered phases.Employing the state-of-art hybrid density functional approach and many-body perturbation theory(quasiparticle GW approach and Bethe-Salpeter equation),we calculate the optical properties of both the TiOS phases.Significantly,both phases show favorable photocatalytic characteristics,featuring band gaps suitable for visible optical absorption and appropriate band alignments with water for effective charge carrier separation.Therefore,ternary compound TiOS holds the potential for achieving high-efficiency photochemical conversion,showing our multi-objective global optimization provides a new approach for novel environmental and energy materials design with multicomponent compounds. 展开更多

Material and structure made by additive manufacturing(AM)have received much attention lately due to their flexibility and ability to customize complex structures.This study first implements multiple objective topology optimization simulations based on a projectile perforation model,and a new topologic projectile is obtained.Then two types of 316L stainless steel projectiles(the solid and the topology)are printed in a selective laser melt(SLM)machine to evaluate the penetration performance of the projectiles by the ballistic test.The experiment results show that the dimensionless specific kinetic energy value of topologic projectiles is higher than that of solid projectiles,indicating the better penetration ability of the topologic projectiles.Finally,microscopic studies(scanning electron microscope and X-ray micro-CT)are performed on the remaining projectiles to investigate the failure mechanism of the internal structure of the topologic projectiles.An explicit dynamics simulation was also performed,and the failure locations of the residual topologic projectiles were in good agreement with the experimental results,which can better guide the design of new projectiles combining AM and topology optimization in the future. 展开更多

Topology optimization of a ratchet compensation structure subject to periodic constraints

The railway pantograph-catenary system employs a ratchet compensation device to sustain the tension of the contact wire.However,the excessive weight associated with the ratchet structure adversely affects the performance of the compensation device.An optimization design aimed at lightweight optimization of the ratchet wheel structure can enhance the system’s agility,improve material utilization,and reduce costs.This study uses a finite element model to establish an equivalent load model for the ratchet under service conditions and analyzes its load-bearing state.An optimization model was created and solved using ANSYS Workbench.The topological optimization configurations were compared under unconstrained conditions and four different periodic constraint scenarios.Following this,the structure was redesigned based on the topological optimization results,and a simulation analysis was conducted to compare the reconstructed model with the original model.The comparison results indicate that the masses of all four optimized models have been reduced by more than 10%.Additionally,under conditions of a fully wound compensation rope,the maximum stress has decreased by over 20%,leading to a more uniform stress distribution and improved overall performance.The topology optimization and redesign method based on periodic constraints offers a viable engineering solution for the lightweight design of the ratchet structure. 展开更多

The uniform design and response surface methodology (RSM) are applied to the multi-objective optimization of a 2-D mixed compression scramjet inlet. The set of experimental design points on the design space is selected by the uniform design, and the inlet performance is analyzed by computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Then complete quadratic polynomial response surface approximation models are constructed based on the performance analysis results and then used to replace theoriginal complex inlet performance model. The optimization is conducted using a multi-objective genetic algorithm NSGA-Ⅱ, and the Pareto optimal solution set is obtained. Results show that the uniform design and RSM can reduce the computational complexity of numerical simulation and improve the optimization efficiency. 展开更多

For the deep understanding on combustion of ammonia/diesel,this study develops a reduced mechanism of ammonia/diesel with 227 species and 937 reactions.The sub-mechanism on ammonia/interactions of N-based and C-based species(N—C)/NOx is optimized using the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II(NSGA-II)with 200 generations.The optimized mechanism(named as 937b)is validated against combustion characteristics of ammonia/methane(which is used to examine the accuracy of N—C interactions)and ammonia/diesel blends.The ignition delay times(IDTs),the laminar flame speeds and most of key intermediate species during the combustion of ammonia/methane blends can be accurately simulated by 937b under a wide range of conditions.As for ammonia/diesel blends with various diesel energy fractions,reasonable predictions on the IDTs under pressures from 1.0 MPa to5.0 MPa as well as the laminar flame speeds are also achieved by 937b.In particular,with regard to the IDT simulations of ammonia/diesel blends,937b makes progress in both aspects of overall accuracy and computational efficiency,compared to a detailed ammonia/diesel mechanism.Further kinetic analysis reveals that the reaction pathway of ammonia during the combustion of ammonia/diesel blend mainly differs in the tendencies of oxygen additions to NH_2 and NH with different equivalence ratios. 展开更多

Terahertz polarization conversion devices have significant potential applications in various fields such as terahertzimaging and spectroscopy.In this paper,we utilize genetic algorithms to topologically optimize the metasurface unit cellsand design a reflective linear polarization conversion metasurface with ultra-broadband and wide-angle characteristics.By partitioning the metallic pattern layer into quadrants,the encoding length is effectively reduced,resulting in a shorteroptimization time.The research results indicate that the converter possesses a polarization conversion efficiency ratio higherthan 90%and a relative bandwidth ratio of 125%in a range of 0.231-0.995 THz.Meanwhile,it can maintain excellentpolarization conversion properties when the incident angle of terahertz waves is less than 45°and the polarization angle isless than 15°,demonstrating excellent practicality.New insights are provided for the design of terahertz wide-angle ultrawidebandpolarization conversion devices,and the proposed metasurfce has potential applications in terahertz polarizationimaging,spectroscopy and communication fields. 展开更多

Reducing the vulnerability of a platform,i.e.,the risk of being affected by hostile objects,is of paramount importance in the design process of vehicles,especially aircraft.A simple and effective way to decrease vulnerability is to introduce protective structures to intercept and possibly stop threats.However,this type of solution can lead to a significant increase in weight,affecting the performance of the aircraft.For this reason,it is crucial to study possible solutions that allow reducing the vulnerability of the aircraft while containing the increase in structural weight.One possible strategy is to optimize the topology of protective solutions to find the optimal balance between vulnerability and the weight of the added structures.Among the many optimization techniques available in the literature for this purpose,multiobjective genetic algorithms stand out as promising tools.In this context,this work proposes the use of a in-house software for vulnerability calculation to guide the process of topology optimization through multi-objective genetic algorithms,aiming to simultaneously minimize the weight of protective structures and vulnerability.In addition to the use of the in-house software,which itself represents a novelty in the field of topology optimization of structures,the method incorporates a custom mutation function within the genetic algorithm,specifically developed using a graph-based approach to ensure the continuity of the generated structures.The tool developed for this work is capable of generating protections with optimized layouts considering two different types of impacting objects,namely bullets and fragments from detonating objects.The software outputs a set of non-dominated solutions describing different topologies that the user can choose from. 展开更多

A multi-objective optimization of oil well drilling has been carried out using a binary coded elitist non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm.A Louisiana offshore field with abnormal formation pressure is considered for optimization.Several multi-objective optimization problems involving twoand three-objective functions were formulated and solved to fix optimal drilling variables.The important objectives are:(i) maximizing drilling depth,(ii) minimizing drilling time and (iii) minimizing drilling cost with fractional drill bit tooth wear as a constraint.Important time dependent decision variables are:(i) equivalent circulation mud density,(ii) drill bit rotation,(iii) weight on bit and (iv) Reynolds number function of circulating mud through drill bit nozzles.A set of non-dominated optimal Pareto frontier is obtained for the two-objective optimization problem whereas a non-dominated optimal Pareto surface is obtained for the three-objective optimization problem.Depending on the trade-offs involved,decision makers may select any point from the optimal Pareto frontier or optimal Pareto surface and hence corresponding values of the decision variables that may be selected for optimal drilling operation.For minimizing drilling time and drilling cost,the optimum values of the decision variables are needed to be kept at the higher values whereas the optimum values of decision variables are at the lower values for the maximization of drilling depth. 展开更多

In many cases, the topological structures of a complex network are unknown or uncertain, and it is of significance to identify the exact topological structure. An optimization-based method of identifying the topological structure of a complex network is proposed in this paper. Identification of the exact network topological structure is converted into a minimal optimization problem by using the estimated network. Then, an improved quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve the optimization problem. Compared with the previous adaptive synchronization- based method, the proposed method is simple and effective and is particularly valid to identify the topological structure of synchronization complex networks. In some cases where the states of a complex network are only partially observable, the exact topological structure of a network can also be identified by using the proposed method. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

A performance comparison of multi-objective optimization algorithms for solving nearly-zero-energy-building design problems 被引量:8

Integrated building design is inherently a multi-objective optimization problem where two or more conflicting objectives must be minimized and/or maximized concurrently.Many multi-objective optimization algorithms have been developed;however few of them are tested in solving building design problems.This paper compares performance of seven commonly-used multi-objective evolutionary optimization algorithms in solving the design problem of a nearly zero energy building(n ZEB) where more than 1.610 solutions would be possible.The compared algorithms include a controlled non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm witha passive archive(p NSGA-II),a multi-objective particle swarm optimization(MOPSO),a two-phase optimization using the genetic algorithm(PR_GA),an elitist non-dominated sorting evolution strategy(ENSES),a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on the concept of epsilon dominance(ev MOGA),a multi-objective differential evolution algorithm(sp MODE-II),and a multi-objective dragonfly algorithm(MODA).Several criteria was used to compare performance of these algorithms.In most cases,the quality of the obtained solutions was improved when the number of generations was increased.The optimization results of running each algorithm20 times with gradually increasing number of evaluations indicated that the PR_GA algorithm had a high repeatability to explore a large area of the solution-space and achieved close-to-optimal solutions with a good diversity,followed by the p NSGA-II,ev MOGA and sp MODE-II.Uncompetitive results were achieved by the ENSES,MOPSO and MODA in most running cases.The study also found that 1400-1800 were minimum required number of evaluations to stabilize optimization results of the building energy model. 展开更多

The improved element-free Galerkin (IEFG) method of elasticity is used to solve the topology optimization problems. In this method, the improved moving least-squares approximation is used to form the shape function. In a topology opti- mization process, the entire structure volume is considered as the constraint. From the solid isotropic microstructures with penalization, we select relative node density as a design variable. Then we choose the minimization of compliance to be an objective function, and compute its sensitivity with the adjoint method. The IEFG method in this paper can overcome the disadvantages of the singular matrices that sometimes appear in conventional element-free Galerkin (EFG) method. The central processing unit (CPU) time of each example is given to show that the IEFG method is more efficient than the EFG method under the same precision, and the advantage that the IEFG method does not form singular matrices is also shown. 展开更多

CO2 from energy represents about 75% of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for Annex B (Developed) countries, and over 60% of global emissions. Because of impermeable cap rocks hydrocarbon reservoirs are able to sequester CO〉 In addition, due to high-demand for oil worldwide, injection of CO2 is a useful way to enhance oil production. Hence, applying an efficient method to co-optimize CO2 storage and oil production is vital. Lack of suitable optimization techniques in the past led most multi-objective optimization problems to be tackled in the same way as a single objective optimization issue. However, there are some basic differences between the multi and single objective optimization methods. In this study, by using a non- dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) for an oil reservoir, some appropriate scenarios are proposed based on simultaneous gas storage and enhanced oil recovery optimization. The advantages of this method allow us to amend production scenarios after implementing the optimization process, by regarding the variation of economic parameters such as oil price and CO2 tax. This leads to reduced risks and time duration of making new decisions based on upcoming situations. 展开更多
