Integrated Scheduling of Communication,Sensing,and Control for UAV-aided FSO Systems

Recently,unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)-aided free-space optical(FSO)communication has attracted widespread attentions.However,most of the existing research focuses on communication performance only.The authors investigate the integrated scheduling of communication,sensing,and control for UAV-aided FSO communication systems.Initially,a sensing-control model is established via the control theory.Moreover,an FSO communication channel model is established by considering the effects of atmospheric loss,atmospheric turbulence,geometrical loss,and angle-of-arrival fluctuation.Then,the relationship between the motion control of the UAV and radial displacement is obtained to link the control aspect and communication aspect.Assuming that the base station has instantaneous channel state information(CSI)or statistical CSI,the thresholds of the sensing-control pattern activation are designed,respectively.Finally,an integrated scheduling scheme for performing communication,sensing,and control is proposed.Numerical results indicate that,compared with conventional time-triggered scheme,the proposed integrated scheduling scheme obtains comparable communication and control performance,but reduces the sensing consumed power by 52.46%. 展开更多

High-precision spot centroid positioning of high-frame-rate short-wave infrared images for satellite laser communication

The accuracy of spot centroid positioning has a significant impact on the tracking accuracy of the system and the stability of the laser link construction.In satellite laser communication systems,the use of short-wave infrared wavelengths as beacon light can reduce atmospheric absorption and signal attenuation.However,there are strong non-uniformity and blind pixels in the short-wave infrared image,which makes the image distorted and leads to the decrease of spot centroid positioning accuracy.Therefore,the high-precision localization of the spot centroid of the short-wave infrared images is of great research significance.A high-precision spot centroid positioning model for short-wave infrared is proposed to correct for non-uniformity and blind pixels in short-wave infrared images and quantify the localization errors caused by the two,further model-based localization error simulations are performed,and a novel spot centroid positioning payload for satellite laser communications has been designed using the latest 640×512 planar array InGaAs shortwave infrared detector.The experimental results show that the non-uniformity of the corrected image is reduced from 7%to 0.6%,the blind pixels rejection rate reaches 100%,the frame rate can be up to 2000 Hz,and the spot centroid localization accuracy is as high as 0.1 pixel point,which realizes high-precision spot centroid localization of high-frame-frequency short-wave infrared images. 展开更多

As an important mechanism in multi-agent interaction,communication can make agents form complex team relationships rather than constitute a simple set of multiple independent agents.However,the existing communication schemes can bring much timing redundancy and irrelevant messages,which seriously affects their practical application.To solve this problem,this paper proposes a targeted multiagent communication algorithm based on state control(SCTC).The SCTC uses a gating mechanism based on state control to reduce the timing redundancy of communication between agents and determines the interaction relationship between agents and the importance weight of a communication message through a series connection of hard-and self-attention mechanisms,realizing targeted communication message processing.In addition,by minimizing the difference between the fusion message generated from a real communication message of each agent and a fusion message generated from the buffered message,the correctness of the final action choice of the agent is ensured.Our evaluation using a challenging set of Star Craft II benchmarks indicates that the SCTC can significantly improve the learning performance and reduce the communication overhead between agents,thus ensuring better cooperation between agents. 展开更多

The Underwater Communication Link(UCL)is a crucial component of Underwater Wireless Optical Communication(UWOC)systems,requiring optimised design to mitigate the high power attenuation inherent in seawater.To ensure the reliability of an optimal UCL design,it is essential to account for the three primary scattering regimes:forward scattering(FSC),backward scattering(BSC),and isotropic scattering(ISC)in seawater channels.This study introduces a new photon-tracking model based on a discrete equation,facilitating Monte Carlo Simulation(MCS)to evaluate how different scattering regimes influence received photon distribution.Three distinct Scattering Regime Contribution Weight(SRCW)probability sets were employed,each representing different UCL operational configurations dominated by specific scattering regimes.The proposed modeling approach enables a comprehensive assessment of the temporal characteristics of received optical pulses,channel loss,and time spread-ultimately defining the optimal UCL design parameters.The key findings of this study include:(1)Enhancing the FSC regime dominance leads to a quasi-light waveguide effect over link spans and small Fields of View(FOV)<25°,significantly improving channel performance in Harbor seawater compared to Coastal seawater.(2)A well-designed UCL with a small FOV(<25°)can minimise channel loss and time spread,ensuring high capacity and efficient performance in both Coastal and Harbor seawaters.(3)When BSC and ISC contributions exceed FSC dominance,the received optical pulse undergoes significant temporal broadening,particularly for larger FOV angles(>25°)and extended link spans.(4)The developed novel MCS-based discrete equation provides a simple yet robust model for simulating photon propagation in both homogeneous and inhomogeneous underwater channels.These insights contribute to developing more efficient and reliable UCL designs with military standards by enhancing UWOC system performance over a longer linkspan for a given limited optical power across various underwater environments. 展开更多

In order to provide relay communication supports for future Chinese lunar exploration program,Queqiao-2 relay communication satellite was developed.Queqiao-2 can perform scientific observations with three kinds of scientific instruments on board.The system design of Queqiao-2,including mission orbit and transfer orbit design,configuration and layout design,housekeeping and information flow design,power supply and distribution design,GNC and propulsion system design,communication links design,etc.,was accomplished through comprehensive tradeoff and evaluation on technical maturity,availability,schedule,cost,and so on.With a view to reducing development risk,both the platform and relay communication payloads were developed based on significant heritage from previous Queqiao relay satellite and other relevant spacecraft.Queqiao-2 features flexible system architecture to support multiple frequencies,modulations,data rates and software reconfigurations to meet new user requirements.Subsequent to a successful launch on March 20,2024,by means of 5 orbit maneuvers,Queqiao-2 was inserted into a highly elliptical frozen mission orbit around the moon with a 24h period on schedule.Following on-orbit tests and calibrations,Queqiao-2 has possessed the capacity to provide reliable relay communication services to multiple lunar exploration missions,as well as the capacity to perform scientific observations.Under the support of Queqiao-2,Chang′e-6 achieved its ambitious mission goal to collect and return samples from the moon′s mysterious far side.In the meanwhile,Queqiao-2 has also paved the way for the following Chinese lunar exploration missions including Chang′e-7 and Chang′e-8.The design life time of Queqiao-2 is more than 8 years.Benefit from flexibility and extensibility of relay communication system design,it is convenient to provide relay communication services for future lunar exploration missions of both China and other countries.In addition,innovative scientific observations would be performed during the period that no relay communication task is arranged.The system design of Queqiao-2 reflects the development philosophy of technical innovations and inheritance integration.Based on highly flexible and extensible system architecture,multiple and concurrent relay communication mission requirements can be met.It can provide strong supports for future lunar exploration missions.Successful launching,orbit entering and on-orbit tests of Queqiao-2 verified the correct design principle and versatility.By means of Queqiao-2,more innovative scientific outcomes are anticipated and lunar exploration activities can be facilitated. 展开更多

Improvement of integrated battlefield situational awareness in complex environments involving dynamic factors such as restricted communications and electromagnetic interference(EMI)has become a contentious research problem.In certain mission environments,due to the impact of many interference sources on real-time communication or mission requirements such as the need to implement communication regulations,the mission stages are represented as a dynamic combination of several communication-available and communication-unavailable stages.Furthermore,the data interaction between unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)can only be performed in specific communication-available stages.Traditional cooperative search algorithms cannot handle such situations well.To solve this problem,this study constructed a distributed model predictive control(DMPC)architecture for a collaborative control of UAVs and used the Voronoi diagram generation method to re-plan the search areas of all UAVs in real time to avoid repetition of search areas and UAV collisions while improving the search efficiency and safety factor.An attention mechanism ant-colony optimization(AACO)algorithm is proposed for UAV search-control decision planning.The search strategy is adaptively updated by introducing an attention mechanism for regular instruction information,a priori information,and emergent information of the mission to satisfy different search expectations to the maximum extent.Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves better search performance than traditional algorithms in restricted communication constraint scenarios. 展开更多

This paper deals with the follower jamming(FJ)resistance for the frequency hopping(FH)communication system over additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN)channel.Conventional FH systems are susceptible to be jammed by FJ,and multi-pattern frequency hopping(MPFH)has good resistance to FJ.To further improve the FJ rejection capability of MPFH,we propose a wide gap multi-pattern frequency hopping(WGMPFH)scheme.WGMPFH uses channels to represent messages,and the data channel and complementary channel are hopping on orthogonal frequency slots according to wide gap FH patterns.The transmitted signal lures FJ to aim at the data channel and the complementary channel is away from FJ by adopting wide gap frequency patterns.FJ does not affect the complementary channel but increases the signal energy in the data channel,thus the effect of FJ is reduced.Its bit error rate(BER)is derived under FJ and the effects of three FJ parameters(tracking success probability,jamming duration ratio and jamming bandwidth ratio)on the BER performance of WGMPFH are investigated versus the co nventional FH/BFSK and MPFH system.Numerical and simulation results show that when under the worst-case FJ,the proposed WGMPFH outperforms the MPFH by about 1-3 dB and outperforms the conventional FH/BFSK by more than 4 dB.The proposed WGMPFH shows superior jamming rejection performance under FJ especially in severe signal-to-jamming ratio(SJR). 展开更多

The network performance and the unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)number are important objectives when UAVs are placed as communication relays to enhance the multi-agent information exchange.The problem is a non-deterministic polynomial hard(NP-hard)multi-objective optimization problem,instead of generating a Pareto solution,this work focuses on considering both objectives at the same level so as to achieve a balanced solution between them.Based on the property that agents connected to the same UAV are a cluster,two clustering-based algorithms,M-K-means(MKM)and modified fast search and find density of peaks(MFSFDP)methods,are first proposed.Since the former algorithm requires too much computational time and the latter one requires too many relays,an algorithm for the balanced network performance and relay number(BPN)is proposed by discretizing the area to avoid missing the optimal relay positions and defining a new local density function to reflect the network performance metric.Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms are feasible and effective.Comparisons between these algorithms show that the BPN algorithm uses fewer relay UAVs than the MFSFDP and classic set-covering based algorithm,and its computational time is far less than the MKM algorithm. 展开更多

The main contribution of this paper is the design of an event-triggered formation control for leader-following consensus in second-order multi-agent systems(MASs)under communication faults.All the agents must follow the trajectories of a virtual leader despite communication faults considered as smooth time-varying delays dependent on the distance between the agents.Linear matrix inequalities(LMIs)-based conditions are obtained to synthesize a controller gain that guarantees stability of the synchronization error.Based on the closed-loop system,an event-triggered mechanism is designed to reduce the control law update and information exchange in order to reduce energy consumption.The proposed approach is implemented in a real platform of a fleet of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)under communication faults.A comparison between a state-of-the-art technique and the proposed technique has been provided,demonstrating the performance improvement brought by the proposed approach. 展开更多

In order to guarantee the communication security, a novel communication security mechanism is proposed. The mechanism uses a communication encryption scheme to encrypt data packets and employs a risk avoidance scheme to avoid the malicious nodes during communications. As a combination of edge computing and artificial intelligence,edge intelligence has become a promising technique and provided its users with a series of fast,precise,and customized services.In edge intelligence,when learning agents are deployed on the edge side,the data aggregation from the end side to the designated edge devices is an important research topic.Considering the various importance of end devices,this paper studies the weighted data aggregation problem in a single hop end-to-edge communication network.Firstly,to make sure all the end devices with various weights are fairly treated in data aggregation,a distributed end-to-edge cooperative scheme is proposed.Then,to handle the massive contention on the wireless channel caused by end devices,a multi-armed bandit(MAB)algorithm is designed to help the end devices find their most appropriate update rates.Diffe-rent from the traditional data aggregation works,combining the MAB enables our algorithm a higher efficiency in data aggregation.With a theoretical analysis,we show that the efficiency of our algorithm is asymptotically optimal.Comparative experiments with previous works are also conducted to show the strength of our algorithm. 展开更多

This paper studies a multiple unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)relaying communication system,where multiple UAV re-lays assist the blocked communication between a group of ground users(GUs)and a base station(BS).Since the UAVs only have limited-energy in practice,our design aims to maximize the energy efficiency(EE)through jointly designing the communica-tion scheduling,the transmit power allocation,as well as UAV trajectory under the buffer constraint over a given flight period.Actually,the formulated fractional optimization problem is diffi-cult to be solved in general because of non-convexity.To re-solve this difficulty,an efficient iterative algorithm is proposed based on the block coordinate descent(BCD)and successive convex approximation(SCA)techniques,as well as the Dinkel-bach’s algorithm.Specifically,the optimization variables of the formulated problem are divided into three blocks and we alter-nately optimize each block of the variables over iteration.Numeri-cal results verify the convergence of the proposed iterative al-gorithm and show that the proposed designs achieve significant EE gain,which outperform other benchmark schemes. 展开更多

To reduce the negative impact of the power amplifier(PA)nonlinear distortion caused by the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM)waveform with high peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR)in integrated radar and communication(RadCom)systems is studied,the channel estimation in passive sensing scenarios.Adaptive channel estimation methods are proposed based on different pilot patterns,considering nonlinear distortion and channel sparsity.The proposed methods achieve sparse channel results by manipulating the least squares(LS)frequency-domain channel estimation results to preserve the most significant taps.The decision-aided method is used to optimize the sparse channel results to reduce the effect of nonlinear distortion.Numerical results show that the channel estimation performance of the proposed methods is better than that of the conventional methods under different pilot patterns.In addition,the bit error rate performance in communication and passive radar detection performance show that the proposed methods have good comprehensive performance. 展开更多

Orbital angular momentum(OAM)at radio frequency(RF)has attracted more and more attention as a novel approach of multiplexing a set of orthogonal OAM modes on the same frequency channel to achieve high spectral efficiency(SE).However,the precondition for maintaining the orthogonality among different OAM modes is perfect alignment of the transmit and receive uniform circular arrays(UCAs),which is difficult to be satisfied in practical wireless communication scenarios.Therefore,to achieve available multi-mode OAM broadband wireless communication,we first investigate the effect of oblique angles on the transmission performance of the multi-mode OAM broadband system in the non-parallel misalignment case.Then,we compare the UCA-based RF analog and baseband digital transceiver structures and corresponding beam steering schemes.Mathematical analysis and numerical simulations validate that the SE of the misaligned multi-mode OAM broadband system is quite low,while analog and digital beam steering(DBS)both can significantly improve the SE of the system.However,DBS can obtain higher SE than analog beam steering especially when the bandwidth and the number of array elements are large,which validates that the baseband digital transceiver with DBS is more suitable for multi-mode OAM broadband wireless communication systems in practice. 展开更多

It is difficult for the receiver to utilize the part instead of global knowledge. Under the extended Kalman filtering, the utilization of the locating message is maximized by two aspects: the locating message generating and multi-locating messages fusing. For the former, the covariance upper-bound technique, by introducing amplification coefficients, is employed to remove the dependency of locating messages on the global knowledge. For the latter, an optimization model is setup; the covariance matrix determinant of the receiver's state estimate, expressed as a function of the amplification coefficients, is selected as the optimization criterion, under linear constraints on the amplification coefficient characteristics and the communication connectivity. Using the optimization solution, the local optimal state of the receiver agent is obtained by the weighting fusion. Simulation with seven agents is shown to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

It is essential to maximize capacity while satisfying the transmission time delay of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)swarm communication system.In order to address this challenge,a dynamic decentralized optimization mechanism is presented for the realization of joint spectrum and power(JSAP)resource allocation based on deep Q-learning networks(DQNs).Each UAV to UAV(U2U)link is regarded as an agent that is capable of identifying the optimal spectrum and power to communicate with one another.The convolutional neural network,target network,and experience replay are adopted while training.The findings of the simulation indicate that the proposed method has the potential to improve both communication capacity and probability of successful data transmission when compared with random centralized assignment and multichannel access methods. 展开更多

Adaptive resource allocation for multi-user multi-server power-line communication OFDM systems

The bits and power allocation model of adaptive power-rate mixture for multi-user multi-server power-line communication systems was analyzed with the restrictions of maximal total power,fixed rate for each real time (RT) user,minimal rate for each non-real time (NRT) user,maximal bits and power for each subcarrier in each orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol. An algorithm of resource dynamic allocation in the first OFDM symbol of each frame and resource optimal adjustment in the latter OFDM symbol of each frame was proposed. In the first OFDM symbol of every frame,resource is firstly assigned for RT users so as to minimize their total used power until satisfying their fixed rates; secondly the remainder resource of power and subcarriers are assigned for NRT users so as to minimize their total used power until satisfying their minimal rates also; lastly the remainder resource is again assigned for NRT users according to the proportional fairness strategy so as to maximize their total assigning rate. In the latter OFDM symbol of each frame,bits are swapped and power is adjusted for every user based on the resource allocation results of anterior OFDM symbol. The algorithm is tested in the typical power-line channel scenarios and the simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm has better performances than the classical multi-user resource allocation algorithms and it realizes the multiple aims of multi-user multi-server resource allocation for power-line communication systems. 展开更多
