Methods Fine particulates suspended in the environment were collected. Forty-eight healthy adult wistar rats were randomly divided into 6 groups with 8 rats in each group. Four groups of rats were exposed to PM2.5 by intratracheally dripping suspensions of fine particulates PM2.5(7.5 mg/kg) as dust-exposed model rats. Among them 24 rats in three groups received Lianhua Qingwen treatment(crude drug) at a dose of 2 g/kg, 4 g/kg, 8 g/kg per day for 3 days before dust exposure and were defined as low-dose, middle-dose and high-dose Lianhua Qingwen treatment groups respectively. The other dust-exposed model rats without treatment were assigned as PM2.5 control group. The un-exposed rats were set as saline control group(1.5 ml/kg saline) and blank control group. All rats were killed after 24 hours of the exposure. Lung tissue, serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF) were collected. Pathological changes of lung tissues in each group were also examined. Results Pathology revealed thickened alveolar septum, congestion of capillary, interstitial edema and infiltration of lymphocyte and neutrophil surrounding bronchiole in the PM2.5 control group, which weresignificantly relieved in the Lianhua Qingwen treatment groups. Compared to the blank and saline control groups, the PM2.5 control group had significantly higher levels of LDH and MDA(p<0.01) and lower level of GSH-PS(p<0.01) in BALF, significantly higher levels of LDH and MDA(p<0.05) and lower level of GSH-PS(p<0.05) in rat serum. The levels of MDA in blood serum and BALF were significantly lower in each treatment group than that in PM2.5 control group(all P<0.05). In both middle-dose and high-dose treatment group the measurements of LDH in serum and BALF as well as GSH-PX in serum were significant difference from those of PM2.5 control group(all P<0.05). This paper used computational fluid dynamics(CFD) method to study the effect of four auxiliary ventilation systems on DPM distribution in a dead-end entry with loading operation. The auxiliary ventilation systems considered include: blower fan and tubing; exhaust fan and tubing, jet fan, and push–pull system. A species transport model with buoyancy effect was used to examine the DPM dispersion pattern with unsteady state analysis. During the 200 s of the loading operation, high DPM levels were identified in the face and dead-end entry regions. This study can be used for mining engineer as guidance to design and setup of local ventilation. It can also be used for selection of DPM control strategies and DPM annual training for underground miners.展开更多

However, how different SOC fractions and microbial necromass C(MNC) respond to forest management practices remains unclear. Methods: We sampled 0–10 cm mineral soil from three different management plantations and one protected forest in Guangxi, Southern China, to explore how forest management practices affect SOC through changing mineralassociated C(MAOC) and particulate organic C(POC), as well as fungal and bacterial necromass C.Results: Compared with the protected forest, SOC and POC in the abandoned, mixed and Eucalyptus plantations significantly decreased, but MAOC showed no significant change, indicating that the loss of SOC was mainly from decreased POC under forest management. Forest management also significantly reduced root biomass, soil extractable organic C, MNC, and total microbial biomass(measured by phospholipid fatty acid), but increased fungi-to-bacteria ratio(F:B) and soil peroxidase activity. Moreover, POC was positively correlated with root biomass, total microbial biomass and MNC, and negatively with F:B and peroxidase activity. These results suggested that root input and microbial properties together regulated soil POC dynamics during forest management. Conclusion: Overall, this study indicates that forest management intervention significantly decreases SOC by reducing POC in Guangxi, Southern China, and suggests that forest protection can help to sequester more soil C in forest ecosystems.展开更多

It is found that starting from a homogeneous Maxwellian distribution of particulates, clusters can form and aggregate. The evolution process, as well as the asymptotic number and configuration of the clusters formed, depends strongly on the strength of the external force. The particulates in most of the final clusters are in the crystal state, as can also be deduced from the corresponding velocity and auto-correlation functions.展开更多

The microstructure of the film was performed by x-ray diffraction, high resolution transmission electron microscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The film was further investigated by spectroscopic ellipsometry. After the model GaP+void[SiO2 was built and an effective medium approximation was adopted, the values of the refractive index n and the extinction coefficient k were calculated for the energy range of 0.75 eV-4.0 eV using the dispersion formula in DeltaPsi2 software. The absorption coefficient of the film was calculated from its k and its energy gaps were further estimated according to the Tauc equation, which were further verified by its fluorescence spectrum measurement. The structure and optical absorption properties of the nanoparticulate films are promising for their potential applications in hybrid solar cells.展开更多
Reducing the linear system of two first order equilibrium equations involving normal stress σ(ρ,θ) and shearing stress v(ρ,θ), by elimination, to two decoupled second order equations in σ and v, ...Reducing the linear system of two first order equilibrium equations involving normal stress σ(ρ,θ) and shearing stress v(ρ,θ), by elimination, to two decoupled second order equations in σ and v, we find that, for pressure only case, v(ρ,θ) vanishes in the half space. Consequently, the second order equation in σ can be simplified. In the language of linear system analysis, the medium(system) function, characterizing the mechanical behavior of a particulate medium in pressure only case, is obtained from the simplified second order equation ( 2 ρ+ 2 θ)σ(ρ,θ)=0 and can be inverted to give impulse reponse explicitly. Thus, response σ α(ρ,θ) may be computed directly from input, i.e., the surface pressure φ α(ρ) , by integration. Some explicit formulas for transmission problems, including response to input of strip linearly increasing pressure, are given in the paper.展开更多

That in this formula there consist neither constants needing adjustments nor variables related to engine types or operating conditions makes it universal and easy to use. Also it can be seen from the formula that radiation heat transfer is proportional to the quotient of in-cylinder soot mass over the average radius of primary particles. Besides, with the help of different algorithms it can be used for predicting cylinders' global as well as local radiation heat flows. As a demonstrative application on its global facet, a three-dimension simulation study about the soot-radiation-related heat flow in the combustion chamber of a diesel engine is carried out. Results show that the range of the soot-radiation-related heat flow computed by this formula agrees well with other researcher's earlier theoretic reasoning and experimental measurements.展开更多

Both the inertia term and coupling term are considered in the dynamic coupled problem. The formulation of the problem by a statistical second-order two-scale (SSOTS) analysis method and the algorithm procedure based on the finite-element difference method are presented. Numerical results of coupled cases are compared with those of uncoupled cases. It shows that the coupling effects on temperature, thermal flux, displacement, and stresses are very distinct, and the micro- characteristics of particles affect the coupling effect of the random composites. Furthermore, the coupling effect causes a lag in the variations of temperature, thermal flux, displacement, and stresses.展开更多

For the fundamental case of infinite uniform pressure on the upper surface,a comparison between solutions from equilibrium equations in Cartesian coordinates and from those in polar coordinates is carried out in details. The semi infinite characteristic lines in the former are bent up to exponential spirals with both ends on the upper surface in the latter. Thus, the transmission pattern from solution in polar coordinates comes closer to actual situation. However,in polar reference frame, the solution for distribution of stresses in particulate half space under surface strip pressure or so can then only be obtained from boundary value problem of second order partial differential equation.展开更多

We simplified the calculation by ignoring structural parameters including particulate shape, arrangement pattern and dimensional variance mode which have no obvious influence on the elastic modulus of a composite, and improved the precision of the method by stressing the interaction of interfaces with pariculates and maxtrix of the composite. The five- zone model can reflect effects of interface modulus on elastic modulus of composite. It overcomes limitations of expressions of rigidity mixed law and flexibility mixed law. The original idea of five zone model is to put forward the particulate/interface interactive zone and matrix/interface interactive zone. By organically integrating the rigidity mixed law and flexibility mixed law, the model can predict the engineering elastic constant of a composite effectively.展开更多

文摘The Euler-Euler model is less effective in capturing the free surface of flow film in the spiral separator, and thus a Eulerian multi-fluid volume of fluid(VOF)model was first proposed to describe the particulate flow in spiral separators. In order to improve the applicability of the model in the high solid concentration system, the Bagnold effect was incorporated into the modelling framework. The capability of the proposed model in terms of predicting the flow film shape in a LD9 spiral separator was evaluated via comparison with measured flow film thicknesses reported in literature. Results showed that sharp air–water and air-pulp interfaces can be obtained using the proposed model, and the shapes of the predicted flow films before and after particle addition were reasonably consistent with the observations reported in literature.Furthermore, the experimental and numerical simulation of the separation of quartz and hematite were performed in a laboratory-scale spiral separator. When the Bagnold lift force model was considered, predictions of the grade of iron and solid concentration by mass for different trough lengths were more consistent with experimental data.In the initial development stage, the quartz particles at the bottom of the flow layer were more possible to be lifted due to the Bagnold force. Thus,a better predicted vertical stratification between quartz and hematite particles was obtained, which provided favorable conditions for subsequent radial segregation.

文摘Diesel particulate matter(DPM) is considered carcinogenic after prolonged exposure. It can also be used for selection of DPM control strategies and DPM annual training for underground miners.

文摘To compensate for the shortcomings of the thermal and catalytic regeneration of the diesel particulate filter(DPF),a self-designed packed-bed dielectric barrier discharge(DBD)reactor for DPF regeneration was developed. The DBD reactor with the main active substance of nonthermal plasma(NTP)as the target parameter was optimized by adjusting the feed gas, packing particles(material or size),and cooling water temperature. Moreover,a set of optimal working parameters(gas source,O_2;packing particles,1.2–1.4 mm ZrO_(2);and cooling water temperature,20℃)was selected to evaluate the effect of different O_(3) concentrations on DPF regeneration. The research results showed that selecting packing particles with high dielectric constant and large particles,as well as reducing the cooling water temperature, with oxygen as the feed gas, contributed to an increase in O_(3) concentration.During DPF regeneration, the following changes were observed:the power of the NTP reactor decreased to lower than 100 W,the O_(3) concentration increased from 15 g m^(-3) to 45 g m^(-3),the CO and CO_2 volume fractions of the particulate matter decomposition products increased, and the peak regeneration temperature increased to 173.4℃.The peak temperature arrival time was 60 min earlier, indicating that the regeneration rate of DPF increased with the increase in O_(3) concentration. However, the O_(3) utilization rate(the amount of carbon deposit removed per unit volume O_(3))initially increased and then decreased;when the O_(3) concentration was set to 25 g m^(-3),the highest O_(3) utilization rate was reached. The packed-bed DBD technology contributed to the increase in the concentration of NTP active substances and the regeneration efficiency of DPF.It provides a theoretical and experimental basis for high-efficiency regeneration of DPF at low temperatures(<200℃).

文摘This study aims to analyze the influence of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon(PAH)content in diesel on the physical and chemical properties of diesel soot particles.Four diesel fuels with different PAH content were tested on a 11.6 L direct-injection diesel engine. The raw particulate matter(PM)before the after-treatment devices was collected using the thermophoresis sampling system and the filter sampling system.A transmission electron microscope and Raman spectrometer are used to analyze the physical properties of the soot particles, including morphology, primary particle size distribution, and graphitization degree.A Fourier transform infrared spectrometer and thermogravimetric analyzer are used to characterize the surface chemical composition and oxidation reactivity of soot particles, respectively. The results show that as the PAH content in the fuel decreases, the size of the primary soot particles decreases from 29.58 to 26.70 nm.The graphitization degree of soot particles first increases and then decreases, and the relative content of the aliphatic hydrocarbon functional groups of soot particles first decreases and then increases. The T_(10),T_(50),and T_(90) of soot from high-PAH fuel are 505.3,589.3,and 623.5℃,while those from low-PAH fuel are 480.1,557.5,and 599.2℃,respectively.This indicates that exhaust PM generated by the low-PAH fuel has poor oxidation reactivity. However,as the PAH content in fuel is further decreased, the excessively high cetane number may cause uneven mixing and incomplete combustion, leading to enhanced oxidation reactivity.

文摘Background: The loss of soil organic carbon(SOC) following conversion of natural forests to managed plantations has been widely reported. Conclusion: Overall, this study indicates that forest management intervention significantly decreases SOC by reducing POC in Guangxi, Southern China, and suggests that forest protection can help to sequester more soil C in forest ecosystems.

文摘Particulate composites are one of the widely used materials in producing numerous state-of-the-art components in biomedical, automobile, aerospace including defence technology.Variety of modelling techniques have been adopted in the past to model mechanical behaviour of particulate composites.Due to their favourable properties,particle-based methods provide a convenient platform to model failure or fracture of these composites.Smooth particle hydrodynamics(SPH)is one of such methods which demonstrate excellent potential for modelling failure or fracture of particulate composites in a Lagrangian setting. One of the major challenges in using SPH method for modelling composite materials depends on accurate and efficient way to treat interface and boundary conditions. In this paper,a masterslave method based multi-freedom constraints is proposed to impose essential boundary conditions and interfacial displacement constraints in modelling mechanical behaviour of composite materials using SPH method. The proposed methodology enforces the above constraints more accurately and requires only smaller condition number for system stiffness matrix than the procedures based on typical penalty function approach.A minimum cut-off value-based error criteria is employed to improve the computational efficiency of the proposed methodology. In addition, the proposed method is further enhanced by adopting a modified numerical interpolation scheme along the boundary to increase the accuracy and computational efficiency. The numerical examples demonstrate that the proposed master-slave approach yields better accuracy in enforcing displacement constraints and requires approximately the same computational time as that of penalty method.

文摘Evolution of spatial distribution of charged particulates under the action of an external force is investigated. It is found that starting from a homogeneous Maxwellian distribution of particulates, clusters can form and aggregate. The evolution process, as well as the asymptotic number and configuration of the clusters formed, depends strongly on the strength of the external force. The particulates in most of the final clusters are in the crystal state, as can also be deduced from the corresponding velocity and auto-correlation functions.
文摘Gallium phosphide (GAP) nanoparticulate thin films were easily fabricated by colloidal suspension deposition via GaP nanoparticles dispersed in N,N-dimethylformamide. The structure and optical absorption properties of the nanoparticulate films are promising for their potential applications in hybrid solar cells.
文摘Reducing the linear system of two first order equilibrium equations involving normal stress σ(ρ,θ) and shearing stress v(ρ,θ), by elimination, to two decoupled second order equations in σ and v, we find that, for pressure only case, v(ρ,θ) vanishes in the half space. Some explicit formulas for transmission problems, including response to input of strip linearly increasing pressure, are given in the paper.

文摘A concise formula for computing radiation heat flow of in-cylinder soot is presented, based on the assumptions that in-cylinder heat transfer of diesel engines is a quasi-equilibrium process and in-cylinder soot particles are spherical. Results show that the range of the soot-radiation-related heat flow computed by this formula agrees well with other researcher's earlier theoretic reasoning and experimental measurements.

文摘This paper focuses on the dynamic thermo-mechanical coupled response of random particulate composite materials. Furthermore, the coupling effect causes a lag in the variations of temperature, thermal flux, displacement, and stresses.
文摘General solution of stresses solved from the two dimensiona l system of equilibrium equations in Cartesian coordinates is characterized by the presence of two families of characteristic lines along which initial stresses and discontinuities in them are transmitted intact far down to infinity. This is against our intuition and not verifiable by experimental findings. However,in polar reference frame, the solution for distribution of stresses in particulate half space under surface strip pressure or so can then only be obtained from boundary value problem of second order partial differential equation.

文摘Particulates generated from electrode erosion in gas spark gap is inevitable and may initiate selfbreakdown behavior with high risk.Traditionally, this problem is addressed by empirical method qualitatively. To push this old problem forward, this paper conducts laser confocal microscopy measurement of eroded surface and a statistical method is introduced to obtain visualization of particulates distribution from electrode erosion after different shots. This method allows dense particulates to be classified with their heights in z direction and scattered figures of particulates within certain height range are obtained. Results indicate that the higher-than-10 μm particulates start to emerge after 200 discharge shots and particulates number has a waved radial distribution with a 0.5 mm wide deposition zone.Based on these quantitative results, the risk of reignition and field-distortion failure that are triggered by particulates can be assessed.
文摘Based on a model of two stress tensors possessing high fluidity, a statically determinate system of partial difference equations of equilibrium has been derived for use to particulate media of such nature. Through non dimensionalization of independent and dependent variables, the system passes into that of partial differential equations. Although the statically determinate system of partial differential equations is non linear, yet the two dimensional one falls apart into three separate groups which can be solved easily one after another.

文摘In this paper, we proposed a five-zone model to predict the elastic modulus of particulate reinforced metal matrix composite. By organically integrating the rigidity mixed law and flexibility mixed law, the model can predict the engineering elastic constant of a composite effectively.
