The contact resistance between the armature and rails is an important indicator of the contact characteristics in electromagnetic launches. As the contact resistance depends not only on the contact state but also on the contact stress and temperature, there are some limitations in analyzing the contact characteristics using only the contact resistance. In this paper, the contact characteristics of the augmented railgun are analyzed by the combination of contact resistance and sliding friction coefficient.Firstly, the theoretical calculation model of the contact resistance and friction coefficient of the augmented electromagnetic railgun is established. Then the contact resistance and friction coefficient are calculated by the measured values of the muzzle voltage, rail current and armature displacement. Finally, the contact characteristics are analyzed according to the features of the waveforms of the contact resistance and the friction coefficient, and the analysis conclusions are verified by experimental rail images. The results showed that:the aluminum melt film gradually formed on the contact surface reduces the contact resistance and the friction coefficient;the wear and erosion of the armature cause deterioration of the contact state;after the transition, the reliability of the sliding contact between the armature and rails decreases, resulting in an increase in contact resistance. 展开更多

Because of the complexities of tire-road interaction, the wheels of a multi-wheel distributed electricdrive vehicle can easily slip under certain working conditions. As wheel slip affects the dynamic per-formance and stability of the vehicle,it is crucial to control it and coordinate the driving force. With this aim, this paper presents a driving force coordination control strategy with road identification for eight-wheeled electric vehicles equipped with an in-wheel motor for each wheel. In the proposed control strategy, the road identification module estimates tire-road forces using an unscented Kalman filter al-gorithm and recognizes the road adhesion coefficient by employing the recursive least-square method According to road identification, the optimal sip ratio under the current driving condition is obtainedand a controller based on sliding mode control with a conditional integrator uses this value for accel-eration slip regulation. The anti-slip controller obtains the adjusting torque, which is integrated with the driver-command-based feedforward control torque to implement driving force coordination control. The results of hardware-in-loop simulation show that this control strategy can accurately estimate tire-roadrces as well as the friction coefficient, and thus, can effectively fulfill the purpose of driving force coordinated control under different driving conditions. 展开更多

In order to reveal the force transmission features of the granules in the solid granule medium forming(SGMF) technology, the frictional characteristics of the non-metallic granule medium(NGM) under high pressure were investigated by tests and simulations. And the relevant changing curves of the internal friction coefficient of the granular system under different normal pressures were obtained by self-designed shear test.By the granule volume compression test, the accurate discrete element simulation parameters were obtained, based on this, the discrete element method(DEM) was adopted to reveal the evolution law of the NGM granules movement in the sample shear process from the microscopic view.Based on the DEM,the influence of granule diameter, surface friction coefficient, normal pressure and shear velocity on the internal friction coefficient of the granular system were studied. And the parameters were conducted to be dimensionless by introducing the inertia coefficient. Finally, the expression showing power-law relationship of inertia coefficient, surface friction coefficient and internal friction coefficient is obtained. 展开更多

The friction between the abrasive grains and workpi ec e is a crutial factor determining the main grinding output. Few studies have bee n carried out investigating the values of the friction coefficient in grinding, due to the difficulty of direct measurement. In this paper, a mathematical model of the friction coefficient in grinding has been established with the aid of a new grinding parameter C ge, which has close relations to wheel wear rate Z s, metal removal rate Z w, specific energy u and grinding force ratio λ(λ=F n/F t). By monitoring the process forces, C ge can be obtained and used easily for different grinding methods. Heavy grinding with different wheels and also single-grit grinding tests have been conducted for various work materials. The friction coefficients under different grinding conditions have been obtaine d using the model and the experimental results. For most materials tested in pap er, the friction coefficients decrease with the grinding speed. The friction coe fficients in single-grit grinding are 0.61~0.84 at the speed of 0.028 m/s, and 0.09~0.34 at the speed of 67~120 m/s. In single-grit grinding for 45 # a nd 20Cr steels, the friction coefficients decrease with the increase of the grindi ng speed while below a critical speed, and increase slightly with the increase o f grinding speed while above the critical grinding speed. Owing probably to the high surface temperature caused by high power consumption and dry condition, the friction coefficients in heavy grinding are 0.09~0.19, distinctly lower than t h ose of single-grit grinding, and also lower than those of ordinary grinding. Du e to the softening of the metals, the friction coefficients in heavy grinding un der dry condition are lower than that in wet condition. Owing probably to the di fference of hardness and roughness, while using different types of wheel and abr asive, the friction coefficients for the same work material changes even at same grinding speed. The work materials also substantially influence the friction coefficient depending on the properties such as the plasticity, hardness and a lso the tendency of adhesion to the abrasives. 展开更多

This work describes an experimental investigation into the influence of geometric micro-groove texture patterns on the tribological performance of stainless steel.Five geometries were studied:one with untextured and four with micro-groove textured making parallel, triangular, square and hexagonal patterns. The micro-groove textures were produced using an MFT-20laser system as well as a two-step laser surface texturing(LST)process.Tribological performance was measured using a pin-on-disk tribometer. The investigation showed that the two-step LST process could fabricate high-precision micro-grooves.The experimental data indicated that the micro-groove textured surfaces achieved the lower frictional coefficients than the untextured surface and the geometric patterns had significantly affected the tribological properties of samples in both lubricated and unlubricated states. The results were analyzed from the lubricant supplying and fluid dynamic pressure effect under lubricated conditions as well as abrasive capture and remove under dry friction conditions. 展开更多

To analyze the influence of surface texture on friction properties of Crl2MoV', ordinary grinder and spinning technology were adopted to obtain the grooved surface morphology of samples, and then the impact of spindle speed and feed in z-direction on surface morphology in the process of spinning was studied. In addition, the corresponding friction coefficient of sample was obtained through friction and wear tests. The results show that the peak clipping and the valley filling were conducted on the grinding surface, which could improve the surface roughness effectively and make the grinding trench-type wear scar more uniform. Both the area ratio of groove and groove spacing increased initially and then decreased with the increase of the spindle speed or the feed in z-direction. As a kind of micro-process, the groove could influence the friction coefficient of sample surface, whose distribution was beneficial to the reduction of friction coefficient. Compared with the surface obtained through ordinary grinding, grooved surface morphology through spinning technology was more conductive to reduce the friction coefficient, which could be reduced by 25%. When the friction coefficient of sample was reduced to the minimum, the texture of groove corresponded had an optimal area ratio and an optimal groove spacing, 37.5% and 27.5 μm, respectively. 展开更多

The high precision assemblies with considerable radial interference should be accompanied by heating and cooling processes. However, the mechanical properties of metals are greatly affected by thermal operations. So,for evaluating the stress distribution and distortion of teeth profiles in a gear/shaft assembly,a transient thermal analysis is necessary for finding the change in mechanical properties. The friction on the contact surface is another important parameter in interaction of the gear with the shaft.Evaluating the gear stress and deformation fields for several modes of heat transfer and friction coefficients showed that the maximum radial or tangential stresses on contact surface of the joint may have more than 8%increase by increasing friction coefficient;while the intensity of heat transfer at cooling stage has lower effect on stress distribution. 展开更多

Three kinds of aggregates were polished by genuine pneumatic rubber tyres. The initial states of surface texture and dynamic friction coefficient were measured and their developments in polishing process were monitored. The characterizations of height distribution and power spectral density of aggregate surface texture were estimated. The changes of micro-texture were also investigated based on a fractal filtering method with sound theoretical backgrounds of rubber friction on rough surfaces.Global height reduction and differential removal of mineral component are observed in polishing process. It is concluded that the tyre-polishing action plays the critical roles in the micro-scale texture, and the evolution of friction of aggregate is governed by the micro-texture changes due to the differential removal of mineral component. 展开更多

Pullout resistance of a soil nail is a critical parameter in design and analysis for geotechnical engineers. Due to the complexity of field conditions, the pullout behaviour of cement grouted soil nail in field is not well investigated. In this work, a number of field pullout tests of pressure grouted soil nails were conducted to estimate the pullout resistance of soil nails. The effective bond lengths of field soil nails were accurately controlled by a new grouting packer system. Typical field test results and the related comparison with typical laboratory test results reveal that the apparent coefficient of friction (ACF) decreases with the increase of overburden soil pressure when grouting pressure is constant, but increases almost linearly with the increase of grouting pressure when overburden pressure (soil depth) is unchanged. Water contents of soil samples at soil nail surfaces show obvious reductions compared with the results of soil samples from drillholes. After soil nails were completely pulled out of the ground, surface conditions of the soil nails and surrounding soil were examined. It is found that the water content values of the soil at the soil/nail interfaces decrease substantially compared with those of soil samples extracted from drillholes. In addition, all soil nails expand significantly in the diametrical direction after being pulled out of ground, indicating that the pressurized cement grout compacts the soil and penetrates into soil voids, leading to a corresponding shift of failure surface into surrounding soil mass significantly. 展开更多

A pulsed, picosecond Nd:YAG laser with a wavelength of 532 nm is used to texture the surface of grade 5 titanium alloy(Ti–6Al–4V)for minimizing its wear rate. The wear properties of the base samples and laser surface textured samples are analyzed by conducting wear tests under a sliding condition using pin-on-disk equipment. The wear tests are conducted based on the Box–Benhken design, and the interaction of the process parameters is analyzed using response surface methodology. The wear analysis is conducted by varying the load, rotating speed of the disc, and track diameter at room temperature with a sliding distance of 1500 m.The results demonstrate that the laser textured surfaces exhibited a lower coefficient of friction and good anti-wear properties as compared with the non-textured surfaces.A regression model is developed for the wear analysis of titanium alloy using the analysis of variance technique. It is also observed from the analysis that the applied load and sliding distance are the parameters that have the greatest effect on the wear behavior followed by the wear track diameter. The optimum operating conditions have been suggested based on the results obtained from the numerical optimization approach. 展开更多

With the high-quality development of urban buildings, higher requirements are come up with for lateral bearing capacity of laterally loaded piles.Consequently,a more accurate analysis to predict the lateral response of the pile within an allowable displacement is an important issue. However, the current p-y curve methods cannot fully take into account the pile-soil interaction, which will lead to a large calculation difference. In this paper,a new analytical p-y curve is established and a finite difference method for determining the lateral response of pile is proposed, which can consider the separation effect of pile-soil interface and the coefficient of circumferential friction resistance. In particular,an analytical expression is developed to determine the compressive soil pressure by dividing the compressive soil pressure into two parts:initial compressive soil pressure and increment of compressive soil pressure. In addition, the relationship between compressive soil pressure and horizontal displacement of the pile is established based on the reasonable assumption. The correctness of the proposed method is verified through four examples.Based on the verified method,a parametric analysis is also conducted to investigate the influences of factors on lateral response of the pile, including internal friction angle, pile length and elastic modulus of pile. 展开更多

A precise friction model is essential for the prediction of tyre wet grip performance and optimization of pavement surface texture design.A mechanical system for predicting the wet grip potential of asphalt pavement was systematically presented using an extended rubber material model by a time step integration scheme. This analytical approach was transferred to a 2D numerical multi-body system consisting of interconnected masses, coupling spring and elementary rubber element of a generalized Maxwell model of rubber tyre tread. The system consists of two basic modules with the same program structure and algorithm, considering the frequency-,temperature-,and strain-dependency behaviors of the complex dynamic modulus of rubber element. The dependence of penetration depth and friction coefficient on the velocity was simulated and validated. It can be concluded that this system can be used for predicting the wet grip potential of asphalt pavements. 展开更多
