The influence of different ageing processes on the microstructure, corrosion behaviors and mechanical properties of extruded Al-5.6Zn-1.6Mg-0.05Zr(wt.%) alloy was studied in this work. The changes of morphology, size and distribution of MgZn_(2)precipitate with ageing temperature and time were revealed by optical and electron microscopy. Intergranular corrosion(IGC) and exfoliation corrosion(EXCO) tests were carried out to assess the changes in corrosion susceptibility of the tempered alloy, and some white spots on the surface of the sample aged for longer time were found to be precursors of pits. Electrochemical cyclic polarization test depicted the corrosion behavior under different tempers. Ageing influences on the mechanical behaviors of the alloy were revealed by evaluating its microhardness and tensile strength. The microscopic features of the strengthening phases determined by the ageing procedure directly affect the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of the alloy. 展开更多

In the present study, the thermal, mechanical, and biological properties of xAg/Ti-30Ta(x=0,0.41,0.82 and 2.48 at%)shape memory alloys(SMAs)were investigated. The study was conducted using optical and scanning electron microscopy(SEM),X-ray diffractometry(XRD),compression test, and shape memory testing. The xAg/Ti-Ta was made using a powder metallurgy technique and microwave-sintering process. The results revealed that the addition of Ag has a significant effect on the pore size and shape, whereas the smallest pore size of 11μm was found with the addition of 0.41 at%along with a relative density of 72%.The fracture stress and strain increased with the addition of Ag,reaching the minimum values around 0.41 at%Ag.Therefore, this composition showed the maximum stress and strain at fracture region.Moreover,0.82 Ag/Ti-Ta shows more excellent corrosion resistance and biocompatibility than other percentages, obtaining almost the same behaviour of the pure Ti and Ti-6Al-4V alloys, which can be recommended for their promising and potential response for biomaterial applications. 展开更多

The corrosion behaviors and electrochemical properties of Q235 A steel in the treated water containing corrosive halide anions(F-, Cl-) have been investigated with corrosion tests of static coupon and dynamic coupon testing, electrochemical measurement of open-circuit potential and linear sweep voltammetry. The results reveal that the existence of F-and Cl-ions in the simulated treated water accelerate the corrosion rate of Q235 A steel. The corrosion rate reaches maximum with F-concentration of 50 mg/L, Cl-concentration of 200 mg/L, respectively. However, Q235 A steel would passivate when an applied potential is added to the system. Meanwhile, the initiating passive potential becomes positive with F-, Cl-concentration increasing. There is a little influence of F-, Cl-concentration on the initiating passivation current density. Therefore, it is necessary to control F-, Cl-concentration in the treated water when it is recycled by the pipelines made of Q235 A steel. 展开更多

This study was done to evaluate the nugget zone(NZ)corrosion behavior of dissimilar copper/brass joints welded by friction stir lap welding(FSLW)in a solution of 0.015 mol/L borax(pH 9.3).To this end, dissimilar copper/brass plates were welded with two dissimilar heat inputs(low and high)during the welding procedure. The high and low heat inputs were conducted with 710 r/min,16 mm/min and 450 r/min,25 mm/min,respectively.Using open circuit potential(OCP)measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)and Tafel polarization tests, the electrochemical behavior of the specimens in borate buffer solution was assessed. With the help of scanning electron microscope(SEM),the morphology of welded specimen surfaces was examined after immersion in the test solution.According to the results, the NZ grain size and resistance improvement reduced due to the nugget zone corrosion with a decreased heat input. The results obtained from Tafel polarization and EIS indicated the improved corrosion behavior of the welded specimen NZ with a decrease in the heat input during the welding process unlike the copper and brass metals.Furthermore,an increased heat input during the welding process shows a reduction in the conditions for forming the passive films with higher protection behavior. 展开更多

Porous Al-Mg alloys with different nominal compositions were successfully fabricated via elemental powder reactive synthesis, and the phase composition, pore structure, and corrosion resistance were characterized with X-ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscope and electrochemical analyzer. The volume expansion ratio, open porosity and corrosion resistance in 3.5%(mass fraction) Na Cl aqueous solution of the alloys increase at first and then decrease with the increase of Mg content. The maxima of volume expansion ratio and open porosity are 18.3% and 28.1% for the porous Al-56%Mg(mass fraction) alloy, while there is the best corrosion resistance for the porous Al-37.5% Mg(mass fraction) alloy. The pore formation mechanism can be explained by Kirkendall effect, and the corrosion resistance can be mainly affected by the phase composition for the porous Al-Mg alloys. They would be of the potential application for filtration in the chloride environment. 展开更多

The corrosion properties of aluminum-lithium(Al-Li) alloys, which are potential materials used to construct for tanks of liquid rockets or missiles, are essential for safe propellant storage and transport. In order to manifest the corrosion resistance of the 2195 Al-Li alloy in practical propellant tanks filled with N2O4, the alloy was soaked in 30% nitric acid solution, an accelerating corrosion environment, to test its corrosion behavior. Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM)were used to characterize microstructure and corrosion morphology of the alloy. Focused ion beam(FIB),combined with SEM, was used to demonstrate localized corrosion features and the propagation of corrosion pathways beneath the alloy surface. It was found that the corrosion network was formed with most intergranular corrosion and sparse intragranular corrosion. Additionally, the distribution and number of intermetallic particles influenced the localized corrosion degree and the direction of corrosion pathways. Aggregated particles made corrosion pathways continuously and caused more severe corrosion. The results from this work were valid and useful to corrosion prevention and protection for storage safety on propellant tanks in N_(2)O_(4). 展开更多
