Moreover,Data has been collected and categorized based on the components of complex human activity: the subject, object, tools(signs,symbols, and language), the community in which the activity take place, division of labor, and rules. This study aims to explore Chinese university EFL learners'perceptions toward alternative assessment in a context of a project-based learning digital storytelling presentation in Speaking Course.It also seeks to compare the relationship between alternative assessment and teacher assessment.The findings showed that a strong correlation between alternative assessment and teacher assessment occurred.Alternative assessment activities are viewed by students as"authentic"assessments,as they mimic how the student will be using their knowledge in the future.Alternative assessment as a form of formative assessment can be a powerful day-to-day tool for teachers and students.Alternative assessment is an enabler of process of learning.The study suggests that alternative assessment can encourage learners to become more fully responsible for their learning and can result in more and better learning.Alternative assessment can thus be used as a golden key to the"deaf and dumb"phenomenon for Chinese university EFL learners. 展开更多

A new method of back propagation learning with respect to the problem of image restora- tion which is named as greyscale based learning in back propagation neural networks (BPNN) is in- vestigated. It is observed that by using this method the value of mean square error (MSE) decreases significantly. In addition, this method also gives good visual results when it is applied in image resto- ration problem. This method is also useful to tackle the inherited drawback of falling into local mini- ma by reducing its effect on overall system by bifurcating the learning locally different for different grey scale values. The performance of this algorithm has been studied in detail with different combi- nations of weights. In short, this algorithm provides much better results especially when compared with the simple back propagation algorithm with any further enhancements and without going for hy- brid solutions. 展开更多

Data-mining techniques using machine learning are powerful and efficient for materials design, possessing great potential for discovering new materials with good characteristics. Here, this technique has been used on composition design for La(Fe,Si/Al)(13)-based materials, which are regarded as one of the most promising magnetic refrigerants in practice. Three prediction models are built by using a machine learning algorithm called gradient boosting regression tree(GBRT) to essentially find the correlation between the Curie temperature(TC), maximum value of magnetic entropy change((?SM)(max)),and chemical composition, all of which yield high accuracy in the prediction of TC and(?SM)(max). The performance metric coefficient scores of determination(R^2) for the three models are 0.96, 0.87, and 0.91. These results suggest that all of the models are well-developed predictive models on the challenging issue of generalization ability for untrained data, which can not only provide us with suggestions for real experiments but also help us gain physical insights to find proper composition for further magnetic refrigeration applications. 展开更多

Occupant behaviour has significant impacts on the performance of machine learning algorithms when predicting building energy consumption.Due to a variety of reasons(e.g.,underperforming building energy management systems or restrictions due to privacy policies),the availability of occupational data has long been an obstacle that hinders the performance of machine learning algorithms in predicting building energy consumption.Therefore,this study proposed an agent⁃based machine learning model whereby agent⁃based modelling was employed to generate simulated occupational data as input features for machine learning algorithms for building energy consumption prediction.Boruta feature selection was also introduced in this study to select all relevant features.The results indicated that the performances of machine learning algorithms in predicting building energy consumption were significantly improved when using simulated occupational data,with even greater improvements after conducting Boruta feature selection. 展开更多

For multiuser multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) cognitive radio (CR) networks a four-stage transmiision structure is proposed. In learning stage, the learning-based algorithm with low overhead and high flexibility is exploited to estimate the channel state information ( CSI ) between primary (PR) terminals and CR terminals. By using channel training in the second stage of CR frame, the channels between CR terminals can be achieved. In the third stage, a multi-criteria user selection scheme is proposed to choose the best user set for service. In data transmission stage, the total capacity maximization problem is solved with the interference constraint of PR terminals. Finally, simulation results show that the multi-criteria user selection scheme, which has the ability of changing the weights of criterions, is more flexible than the other three traditional schemes and achieves a tradeoff between user fairness and system performance. 展开更多

With the swift development of network technology, research on how to integrate network technology into language learning has become a trend. This paper examines whether the application of language learning strategy(LLS) in the networkbased environment has incomparable superiority. Beginning with the literature review, it presents an analysis on similarities and differences between network-based language learning strategy(NBLLS) and non-NBLLS, and then expounds the characteristics,the influencing factors and teachers' role of NBLLS. Taking 25 participants in the group of non-NBLL and 34 in the NBLL group as the comparative survey study, the empirical result shows the new evidence that there is a little difference between the two groups in the use of LLS.
