Recently, a two-dimensional (2-D) Tsallis entropy thresholding method has been proposed as a new method for image segmentation. But the computation complexity of 2-D Tsallis entropy is very large and becomes an obstacle to real time image processing systems. A fast recursive algorithm for 2-D Tsallis entropy thresholding is proposed. The key variables involved in calculating 2-D Tsallis entropy are written in recursive form. Thus, many repeating calculations are avoided and the computation complexity reduces to O(L2) from O(L4). The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is illustrated by experimental results. 展开更多

Among all segmentation techniques, Otsu thresholding method is widely used. Line intercept histogram based Otsu thresholding method(LIH Otsu method) can be more resistant to Gaussian noise, highly efficient in computing time, and can be easily extended to multilevel thresholding. But when images contain salt-and-pepper noise, LIH Otsu method performs poorly. An improved LIH Otsu method(ILIH Otsu method) is presented, which can be more resistant to Gaussian noise and salt-and-pepper noise. Moreover, it can be easily extended to multilevel thresholding. In order to improve the efficiency, the optimization algorithm based on the kinetic-molecular theory(KMTOA) is used to determine the optimal thresholds. The experimental results show that ILIH Otsu method has stronger anti-noise ability than two-dimensional Otsu thresholding method(2-D Otsu method), LIH Otsu method, K-means clustering algorithm and fuzzy clustering algorithm. 展开更多

In this paper a square wavelet thresholding method is proposed and evaluated as compared to the other classical wavelet thresholding methods (like soft and hard). The main advantage of this work is to design and implement a new wavelet thresholding method and evaluate it against other classical wavelet thresholding methods and hence search for the optimal wavelet mother function among the wide families with a suitable level of decomposition and followed by a novel thresholding method among the existing methods. This optimized method will be used to shrink the wavelet coefficients and yield an adequate compressed pressure signal prior to transmit it. While a comparison evaluation analysis is established, A new proposed procedure is used to compress a synthetic signal and obtain the optimal results through minimization the signal memory size and its transmission bandwidth. There are different performance indices to establish the comparison and evaluation process for signal compression;but the most well-known measuring scores are: NMSE, ESNR, and PDR. The obtained results showed the dominant of the square wavelet thresholding method against other methods using different measuring scores and hence the conclusion by the way for adopting this proposed novel wavelet thresholding method for 1D signal compression in future researches. 展开更多

A range-spread target(RST)detector is proposed for wideband radar.The detector,referred to as a conjugate multiplication and block thresholding(CMBT)detector,is simple for implementation in existing radar systems and has the advantage of minor calculation.First,the target energy of adjacent stretched echoes is coherently accumulated via conjugate multiplication and Fourier transform operations.It is noted that conjugate multiplication of two complex Gaussian distributed noise is complex double Gaussian distributed,leading to a signal to noise ratio(SNR)loss.Subsequently,considering the sparsity and clustering characteristics of the conjugate multiplication amplitude spectrum(CMAS),the block thresholding method is adopted for denoising,where the noise and cross-terms are adaptively smoothed,and the signal terms can be basically preserved.Finally,numerical simulation results for both synthetic and real radar data validate the effectiveness of the proposed detector,comparing with the conventional integration detector(ID),the spatial scattering density(SSD)detector,and waveform entropy(WE)and waveform contrast(WC)based detectors. 展开更多

In this paper, methods are proposed and validated to determine low and high thresholds to segment out gray matter and white matter for MR images of different pulse sequences of human brain. First, a two-dimensional reference image is determined to represent the intensity characteristics of the original three-dimensional data. Then a region of interest of the reference image is determined where brain tissues are present. The non-supervised fuzzy c-means clustering is employed to determine: the threshold for obtaining head mask, the low threshold for T2-weighted and PD-weighted images, and the high threshold for T1-weighted, SPGR and FLAIR images. Supervised range-constrained thresholding is employed to determine the low threshold for T1-weighted, SPGR and FLAIR images. Thresholding based on pairs of boundary pixels is proposed to determine the high threshold for T2-and PD-weighted images. Quantification against public data sets with various noise and inhomogeneity levels shows that the proposed methods can yield segmentation robust to noise and intensity inhomogeneity. Qualitatively the proposed methods work well with real clinical data. 展开更多

The geostress and rock blasting in underground engineering may greatly affect the stress thresholds of surrounding rock.In this study,pre-damage impact tests were first conducted on granite under varying confining pressures(5,10 and 15 MPa)and numbers of impacts(1,5,10 and 15 impacts).Then,uniaxial compression tests were undertaken on the pre-damaged granite to study the evolution of stress thresholds using the crack volume strain method and acoustic emission method.The crack damage stresses determined by the two methods were compared.Additionally,based on the rise time amplitude and average frequency,the evolution law of microcracks inside rock specimens was revealed,and an improved acoustic emission method was proposed.The results indicated that as the number of impacts increased,the crack closure stress,crack damage stress,and peak stress of granite specimens initially rose and then declined,while they continuously increased with the confining pressure.The proportion of shear cracks first declined and then rose with greater number of impacts and decreased with higher confining pressure,and that of tensile cracks showed the opposite trend.The improved acoustic emission method was more accurate in identifying the crack damage stress. 展开更多

垂向潜流带CO_(2)产量主控因素转变阈值研究

河流碳排放是全球碳循环的关键环节,潜流带作为其重要组成部分,对碳排放具有显著影响。潜流带CO_(2)产生和排放过程受河流温度和溶解氧(dissolved oxygen,DO)等动态因素控制,然而,目前大多数模型仍基于稳态条件,难以准确捕捉CO_(2)产量... 河流碳排放是全球碳循环的关键环节,潜流带作为其重要组成部分,对碳排放具有显著影响。潜流带CO_(2)产生和排放过程受河流温度和溶解氧(dissolved oxygen,DO)等动态因素控制,然而,目前大多数模型仍基于稳态条件,难以准确捕捉CO_(2)产量动态变化,导致碳排放估算存在较大不确定性。为此,本研究构建了典型沙丘形态的潜流带生物地球化学耦合模型,引入日周期性变化的河流温度和DO,将其作为潜流带边界条件,利用COMSOL Multiphysics对耦合模型进行数值求解,并通过达姆科勒数(Damk hler number,Da)和相关系数来分析河流温度和DO波动边界条件对垂向潜流带CO_(2)产量的动态影响及调控机制。研究结果表明,温度和DO对CO_(2)产生速率具有显著调控作用且存在竞争关系。在潜流带平均滞留时间小于15.7 h时,存在温度阈值,使CO_(2)产生速率的主控因素随河流平均温度发生转换。具体表现为:在温度阈值以下,主控因素为温度波动;而在温度阈值以上,主控因素为DO波动。更为重要的是,当平均滞留时间大于15.7 h时,主控因素转换机制不存在。本研究揭示了河流温度和DO波动对潜流带中CO_(2)产生速率的调控机制,为理解河流碳循环提供了新视角,有助于准确评估潜流带在全球碳循环中的作用,并为预测河流生态系统对气候变化的响应提供理论依据。 展开更多

The proposed method is effective in the demand for the estimation of different parameters and the unknown signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) circumstance. With the gradual depletion of mineral resources in the shallow part of the earth,resource exploitation continues to move deeper into the earth,it becomes a hot topic to simulate the whole process of rock strain softening,deformation and failure in deep environment,especially under high temperature and high pressure.On the basis of Lemaitre’s strain-equivalent principle,combined with statistics and damage theory,a statistical constitutive model of rock thermal damage under triaxial compression condition is established.At the same time,taking into account the existing damage model is difficult to reflect residual strength after rock failure,the residual strength is considered in this paper by introducing correction factor of damage variable,the model rationality is also verified by experiments.Analysis of results indicates that the damage evolution curve reflects the whole process of rock micro-cracks enclosure,initiation,expansion,penetration,and the formation of macro-cracks under coupled effect of temperature and confining pressure.Rock thermal damage shows logistic growth function with the increase of temperature.Under the same strain condition,rock total damage decreases with the rise of confining pressure.By studying the electron microscope images(SEM)of rock fracture,it is inferred that 35.40 MPa is the critical confining pressure of brittle to plastic transition for this granite.The model parameter F reflects the average strength of rock,and M reflects the morphological characteristics of rock stress–strain curves.The physical meanings of model parameters are clear and the model is suitable for complex stress states,which provides valuable references for the study of rock deformation and stability in deep engineering. 展开更多

After the expiry of the warranty, however, the consumer confronts a problem about how to maintain the reliability of the product. This paper proposes, from the consumer's perspective, a replacement policy after the extended warranty, under the assumption that the product is sold under the renewable free replacement warranty (RFRW) policy in which the replacement is dependent on the repair-cost threshold. The proposed replacement policy is the replacement after the extended warranty is performed by the consumer based on the repair-cost threshold or preventive replacement (PR) age, which are decision variables. The expected cost rate model is derived from the consumer's perspective. The existence and uniqueness of the optimal solution that minimizes the expected cost rate per unit time are offered. In the current methods about the Wiener process based RUL estimation, the randomness of the failure threshold has not been studied thoroughly. In this work, by using the truncated normal distribution to model random failure threshold(RFT), an analytical and closed-form RUL distribution based on the current observed data was derived considering the posterior distribution of the drift parameter. Then, the Bayesian method was used to update the prior estimation of failure threshold. To solve the uncertainty of the censored in situ data of failure threshold, the expectation maximization(EM) algorithm is used to calculate the posteriori estimation of failure threshold. Numerical examples show that considering the randomness of the failure threshold and updating the prior information of RFT could improve the accuracy of real time RUL estimation. 展开更多

The luminance in the road tunnel threshold zone attracts broad attention due to its enormous energy consumption and direct influence on tunnel transportation security.Current lighting design methods in threshold zones mostly adopt the reduction coefficient method.However,the determination of reduction coefficient k simply considers tunnel design speed and flow rate,while excluding outside tunnel luminance and threshold zone color temperature and luminance,which have a major impact on driver visual adaptation.Existing problems in the determination of k value are analyzed;a visual performance experiment is utilized;and the reaction time of drivers in changeable outside tunnel luminance and threshold zone color temperature and luminance conditions is obtained;thus,the equations concerning reduction coefficient variation law are derived.In the end,a comparative analysis is made of the k values of the reduction coefficient stipulated by various norms under different color temperature conditions. 展开更多

Real-time hand gesture recognition technology significantly improves the user's experience for virtual reality/augmented reality(VR/AR) applications, which relies on the identification of the orientation of the hand in captured images or videos. A new three-stage pipeline approach for fast and accurate hand segmentation for the hand from a single depth image is proposed. Firstly, a depth frame is segmented into several regions by histogrambased threshold selection algorithm and by tracing the exterior boundaries of objects after thresholding. Secondly, each segmentation proposal is evaluated by a three-layers shallow convolutional neural network(CNN) to determine whether or not the boundary is associated with the hand. Finally, all hand components are merged as the hand segmentation result. Compared with algorithms based on random decision forest(RDF), the experimental results demonstrate that the approach achieves better performance with high-accuracy(88.34% mean intersection over union, mIoU) and a shorter processing time(≤8 ms). 展开更多

For direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) receivers, the capability of rejecting narrow-band interference can be significantly improved by a process of frequency-domain interference suppression (FDIS). The key issue of this process is how to determine a threshold to eliminate interference in the frequency domain, which has been extensively studied. However, these previous methods are tedious or very complex. A simple and ef- ficient algorithm based on medians is proposed. The elimination threshold is only related to the median by a scale factor, which can be obtained by the numerical analysis. Simulation results show that the algorithm provides excellent narrow-band interfer- ence suppression while only slightly degrading the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). A one-pass algorithm using logarithmic segmentation is further derived to estimate medians with low computational complexity. Finally, the FDIS is implemented in a field programmable gate array (FPGA) of Xilinx. Experiments are carried out by connecting the FDIS FPGA to a DSSS receiver, and the results show that the receiver has an effective countermeasure for a 60 dB interference-to-signal ratio (ISR). 展开更多

The value range of the failure threshold will generate an uncertain influence on the prediction results for the remaining useful life(RUL) of equipment. Most of the existing studies on the RUL prediction assume that the failure threshold is a fixed value,as they have difficulty in reflecting the random variation of the failure threshold. In connection with the inadequacies of the existing research, an in-depth analysis is carried out to study the effect of the random failure threshold(RFT) on the prediction results for the RUL. First, a nonlinear degradation model with unit-to-unit variability and measurement error is established based on the nonlinear Wiener process. Second, the expectation-maximization(EM) algorithm is used to solve the estimated values of the parameters of the prior degradation model, and the Bayesian method is used to iteratively update the posterior distribution of the random coefficients. Then, the effects of three types of RFT constraint conditions on the prediction results for the RUL are analyzed, and the probability density function(PDF) of the RUL is derived. Finally,the degradation data of aero-turbofan engines are used to verify the correctness and advantages of the method. 展开更多
