The results show that the shapes of dispersion curves at high pressures are very similar to that at zero pressure. All the vibration frequencies of Cu in all vibration branches at high pressures are larger than the results at zero pressure, and increase correspondingly as pressure reaches 50, 100, and 150 GPa sequentially. Moreover, on the basis of phonon dispersion, we calculate the values of specific heat of Cu at different pressures. The prediction of thermodynamic quantities lays a significant foundation for guiding and judging experiments of thermodynamic properties of solids under high pressures.展开更多

This analytical variational method can be obtained by a unitary transformation or alternatively by assuming the form of the ground state wave function. The key of the method is to introduce a variational parameter λ,which can be determined by minimizing the energy functional. Using this method, we calculate the physical observables with high accuracy in comparison with the numerical exact ones. Our method evidently improves over the widely used general rotating-wave approximation(GRWA) in both qualitative and quantitative aspects.展开更多

The physical mechanism of tip instability is explained by analyzing the interface potential, the tangential energy flux, and the normal energy flux. A rigorous criterion for tip-splitting instability is established analytically, i.e., the ratio of the cellular tip radius to the cellular width α 〉3/2/π≈ 0.3899, which is in good agreement with simulation results. This study also reveals that the cellular tip splitting instability is attributable to weak Gibbs–Thomson energy acting on the interface.展开更多

The traditional design approach only considers the axial(tensile) capacity and this is clearly not the situation in situ, where a rock bolt is subjected to both axial and shear/bending loads which determines its overall performance and failure behaviour. To demonstrate and analyse the shear displacement in bedded roof, scaled physical models of underground excavation were created. From the models it was found that the shear displacement between the layers depends on the vertical roof deformation and thickness of beds. To analyse the effect of combined loading on rock bolt design for suspension and beam building models, analytical methods were used to calculate the required spacing of rock bolt for a given safety factor. Numerical models were then created using Rocscience RS2 software to establish the stresses on the rock bolt. The results show a significant reduction in safety factor for suspension as demonstrated in an example(reduced from 3.5 to 2.0) and beam building(2.0 to 1.36) when the rock bolt capacities are calculated considering the effect of combined loading as opposed to just the axial or shear loads.展开更多

The lattice versions of the hydrodynamic model are described by the differential-difference equation and difference-difference equation, respectively. The stability conditions for the two models are obtained by using the linear stability theory. The results show that the drivers' delay in sensing headway plays an important role in jamming transition.展开更多

It is shown that these systems which are usually associated with auxeticity can exhibit strongly anisotropic properties for certain conformations, which may give rise to the anomalous property of negative linear compressibility (NLC), that is, the system with particular geometry will expand along one direction when loaded hydrostatically. It is also shown that through carefully choosing the geometric features (i.e. the dimensions and the alignment of the rotating triangles as well as the angles between them) and the direction along which the linear compressibility is measured, one may control the magnitude and range of the NLC. All this provides a novel but effective method of manufacturing the systems which can be tailored to achieve particular values of NLC to fit particular practical applications.展开更多

This solution is based on a series of analytical models developed from elastic-plastic mechanism theories for different structural components, including bottom girders, floors, bottom plating, and attached stiffeners. We verify this simplified analytical model by numerical simulation, and establish finite element models for a typical tanker hold and a rigid indenter representing seabed obstacles. Employing the LS-DYNA finite element solver, we conduct numerical simulations for shoal-grounding cases with a wide range of slope angles and indentation depths. In comparison with numerical simulations, we verify the proposed simplified analytical model with respect to the total energy dissipation and the horizontal grounding resistance. We also investigate the interaction effect of deformation patterns between bottom structure components. Our results show that the total energy dissipation and resistances predicted by the analytical model agree well with those from numerical simulations.展开更多

In addition, the trapping effect of dislocation on vacancy is investigated as well. The results show that the equilibrium dislocation core is quite narrow and has a C2v symmetry structure. Calculated strain energy Es of the dislocation is a linear function of ln(R/2b) while R ≥ 5.16 A(1A = 0.1 nm), in excellent agreement with the elasticity theory prediction. Determined core radius and energy are 5.16 A and 0.62 eV/A, respectively. The closer the vacancy to the dislocation line is, the lower the vacancy formation energy is, this fact implies that the dislocation has a trend to trap the vacancy, especially for a separation distance of the vacancy from dislocation line being less than two lattice constants.展开更多

It presents three cases in which the applied method works very well. In the first quantum dot, the energy eigenvalues and eigenfunction are obtained, and compared with those acquired from the exact numerical analysis and the WKB (Wentzel, Kramers and Brillouin) method; in the second or the third case, we get the energy eigenvalues by the ATMM, and compare them with the EBK (Einstein, Brillouin and Keller) results or the wavefunction outcomes. From the comparisons, we find that the semiclassical method (WKB, EBK or wavefunction) is inexact in such systems.展开更多

文摘With modified analytical embedded-atom method and molecular dynamics simulation, this paper simulates the strain energy and the equilibrium core structure of a(100) edge dislocation in BCC metal iron on atomistic scale. The closer the vacancy to the dislocation line is, the lower the vacancy formation energy is, this fact implies that the dislocation has a trend to trap the vacancy, especially for a separation distance of the vacancy from dislocation line being less than two lattice constants.
文摘This paper applies the analytical transfer matrix method (ATMM) to calculate energy eigenvalues of a particle in low dimensional sharp confining potential for the first time, and deduces the quantization rules of this system. From the comparisons, we find that the semiclassical method (WKB, EBK or wavefunction) is inexact in such systems.
