Design method of high prestressed support for shallow-buried large-span caverns

The surrounding rock is prone to large-scale loosening and failure after the excavation of shallow large-span caverns because of the thin overlying strata and large cross-section span.The rational design of bolt support is very important to the safety control of surrounding rock as a common support means.The control mechanism and design method of bolt support for shallow-buried large-span caverns is carried out.The calculation method of bolt prestress and length based on arched failure and collapsed failure mode is established.The influence mechanism of different influencing factors on the bolt prestress and length is clarified.At the same time,the constant resistance energy-absorbing bolt with high strength and high toughness is developed,and the comparative test of mechanical properties is carried out.On this basis,the design method of high prestressed bolt support for shallow-buried large-span caverns is put forward,and the field test is carried out in Qingdao metro station in China.The monitoring results show that the maximum roof settlement is 6.8 mm after the new design method is adopted,and the effective control of the shallow-buried large-span caverns is realized.The research results can provide theoretical and technical support for the safety control of shallow-buried large-span caverns. 展开更多

Magnetorheological (MR) fluids consist of stable suspensions of magnetic particles in a carrying fluid such as water or silicone oils. The magnetorheological response of MR fluids results from the polarization induced in suspended particles by application of an external magnetic field. The interaction between the induced dipoles causes the particles to form columnar structure, parallel to the applied field. These chain-like structures restrict the motion of fluids, thereby increasing the viscosity and yield stress of the MR fluids. These mechanical characteristics allow for the construction of magnetically controlled device such as the MR fluids rotary brakes. However, there has been little information published about the design of MR fluid brakes. In this paper the design of the cylindrical MR fluid brake is investigated theoretically. Bingham model is used to characterize the constitutive behaviors of the MR fluids subject to an external magnetic field. The operational principle of the cylindrical MR fluid brake is presented. The theoretical method is developed to analyze the transmission properties of the torque of the cylindrical MR fluid brake. An engineering expression for the torque is derived to provide the theoretical foundations in the design of the cylindrical MR fluid brake. Based on this equation the volume and thickness of the annular MR fluids within the brake is expressed as functions of the desired ratio of torques with saturated magnetic field and without external field, the controlled mechanical power and the MR fluid material properties. The parameters of the thickness and width of the fluid in the brake can be calculated from the obtained equations when the required mechanical power level, the desired torque ratio are specified. 展开更多

A simple and highly accurate semi-analytical method, called the differential transformation method(DTM), was used for solving the nonlinear temperature distribution equation in solid and porous longitudinal fin with temperature dependent internal heat generation. The problem was solved for two main cases. In the first case, heat generation was assumed variable by fin temperature for a solid fin and in second heat generation varied with temperature for a porous fin. Results are presented for the temperature distribution for a range of values of parameters appearing in the mathematical formulation(e.g. N, εG, and G). Results reveal that DTM is very effective and convenient. Also, it is found that this method can achieve more suitable results in comparison to numerical methods. 展开更多

The results indicated that this local shallow layer groundwater resources were rich and have the big development potential. This study considers an MHD Jeffery-Hamel nanofluid flow with distinct nanoparticles such as copper,Al_(2)O_(3)and SiO_(2)between two rigid non-parallel plane walls with the fuzzy extension of the generalized dual parametric homotopy algorithm.The nanofluids have been formulated to enhance the thermophysical characteristics of fluids,including thermal diffusivity,conductivity,convective heat transfer coefficients and viscosity.Due to the presence of distinct nanofluids,a change in the value of volume fraction occurs that influences the velocity profiles of the flow.The short value of nanoparticles volume fraction is considered an uncertain parameter and represented in a triangular fuzzy number range among[0.0,0.1,0.2].A novel generalized dual parametric homotopy algorithm with fuzzy extension is used here to study the fuzzy velocities at various channel positions.Finally,the effectiveness of the proposed approach has been demonstrated through a comparison with the available results in the crisp case. 展开更多

In this paper,the content and density of adsorbed water in fine-grained soil are determined.According to the test results,the calculation method of compaction degree of the solid-phase and void ration of soil is improved.Four kinds of fine-grained soils from different regions in China were selected,and the adsorbed water content and density of four kinds of fine-grained soils were determined by thermogravimetry and volumetric flask method.Furthermore,SEM and XRD experiments were used to analyze the differences in the ability of each soil sample to absorb water.In order to study the compression characteristics of adsorbed water,four saturated soil samples were tested by consolidation method.The results show that the desorption temperature range of the adsorbed water and its density were equal to 100−115℃and 1.30 g/cm^(3),respectively.Adsorbed water plays a positive role in keeping the compressibility of fine-grained soil at a low rate when it has high water content.Besides,adsorbed water can be a stable parameter and is difficult to discharge during the operation period of subgrade.The settlement of fine-grained soil embankment is predicted by engineering example,and compared with the result of conventional calculation method.The results show that it is more close to the field monitoring results by using the improved void ratio of soil as the parameter. 展开更多

The nonlinear Baker failure criterion is introduced into the upper-bound limit analysis to examine the face stability of a shallow tunnel. The tunnel face under the ultimate limit state is analyzed from the perspective of energy balance. The work rates of external forces and internal energy dissipation are calculated. An analytical solution of necessary face pressures is derived. The optimal upper-bound solution of the face pressures is obtained by optimization. The results show that the three dimensionless parameters A, T, n of nonlinear Baker failure criterion have different effects on the necessary face pressures and the pattern failure mechanisms ahead of tunnel face. A is the most important one;n takes the second place, and T is the least one. The computed necessary face pressures are nonlinearly increasing when A is reduced. Combined with the actual monitoring data of Taxia tunnel, the calculation results in this paper is verified. It is suggested that the tunnel face supports should be strengthened timely in soft rocks to prevent the occurrence of face collapse. 展开更多

By combining the results of laboratory model tests with relevant flow rules, the failure mode of shallow unsymmetrical loading tunnels and the corresponding velocity field were established. According to the principle of virtual power, the upper bound solution for surrounding rock pressure of shallow unsymmetrical loading tunnel was derived and verified by an example. The results indicate that the calculated results of the derived upper bound method for surrounding rock pressure of shallow unsymmetrical loading tunnels are relatively close to those of the existing "code method" and test results, which means that the proposed method is feasible. The current code method underestimates the unsymmetrical loading feature of surrounding rock pressure of shallow unsymmetrical loading tunnels, so it is unsafe; when the burial depth is less or greater than two times of the tunnel span and the unsymmetrical loading angle is less than 45°, the upper bound method or the average value of the results calculated by the upper bound method and code method respectively, is comparatively reasonable. When the burial depth is greater than two times of the tunnel span and the unsymmetrical loading angle is greater than 45°, the code method is more suitable. 展开更多

This paper presents nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODES) of the heavier pellets movement for two phase flow, which actually represent a system of equations. The usual methods of solution such as Runge -Kutta method and it's datum results are discussed. This paper solves ODES of general form using variable mesh-length, linearizing the nonlinear terms by finite analysis method, fuilding an iteration sequence, and amending the nonlinear terms by iteration . The conditions of convergent operation of iteration solution is checked. The movement orbit and velocity of the pellets are calculated. Household Drill Innovative Design under the Guidance of Ergonomics

The household drill is named 90 Degree, designed by Industrial Design Pilot Program Center(Hereinafter referred to as IDPPC) of Luxun Academy of Fine Arts(Hereinafter referred to as LAFA), which is the only national pilot program center in Chinese industrial design field. 90 Degree is designed for home environment, it helps inexperience users, such as women and the elderly, complete the operation easily, and it makes sure that safe operation and assistance users solve the precise punching, location, storage trash and other operations. According to research among users who can understand or manipulate a drill, the designers find problems of users from the user central perspective, and then they integrate product innovative design methods to propose solutions. When the designers intend to design 90 Degree, they attempt using the user behavior record and analysis system, and start ergonomics study in subjects by double hands operation analysis, using gesture analysis, details of work analysis, time and motion study, etc; meanwhile taking advantages of user experience analysis, behavior intention analysis to do user subjective perceptual evaluation. The functions, structure, shape, color, material, details of 90 Degree should be consistent with the standard of usability evaluation. There are two characteristics in 90 Degree, the first one is a transparent cover installed in front of the drill, which can collect the dust, rubbish when drilling and keep the work environment clean. So it is applicable for households. When the transparent cover of the drill is removed, it also can be used as a normal hand drill; the second one is the shape of 90 Degree makes it and the operating surface fitting together, thus enhancing the stability in operation, so it is best for inexperienced users. When 90 Degree contacts with the operating surface, it can emit the laser ray which helps the user to punch accurately, and make array punch more easily. After obtaining the data, charts, creating Shadow observation by the designers, they make a comprehensive evaluation on research results; verification advantages of 90 Degree meet the requirement of usability, reducing operating failure rate; and increasing safety factors. 90 Degree, in 2011, wined German Red Dot Design Award, which had become a representative excellent design example to resolve several drilling difficulties. The designers introduce ergonomics theory into design practice, and use scientific program and methods to evaluate the products which is useful to the development and promotion of products. 展开更多

To reasonably design the blade-tip radial running clearance(BTRRC) of high pressure turbine and improve the performance and reliability of gas turbine, the multi-object multi-discipline reliability sensitivity analysis of BTRRC was accomplished from a probabilistic prospective by considering nonlinear material attributes and dynamic loads. Firstly, multiply response surface model(MRSM) was proposed and the mathematical model of this method was established based on quadratic function. Secondly, the BTRRC was decomposed into three sub-components(turbine disk, blade and casing), and then the single response surface functions(SRSFs) of three structures were built in line with the basic idea of MRSM. Thirdly, the response surface function(MRSM) of BTRRC was reshaped by coordinating SRSFs. From the analysis, it is acquired to probabilistic distribution characteristics of input-output variables, failure probabilities of blade-tip clearance under different static blade-tip clearances δ and major factors impacting BTRRC. Considering the reliability and efficiency of gas turbine, δ=1.87 mm is an optimally acceptable option for rational BTRRC. Through the comparison of three analysis methods(Monte Carlo method, traditional response surface method and MRSM), the results show that MRSM has higher accuracy and higher efficiency in reliability sensitivity analysis of BTRRC. These strengths are likely to become more prominent with the increasing times of simulations. The present study offers an effective and promising approach for reliability sensitivity analysis and optimal design of complex dynamic assembly relationship. 展开更多

To gain a deep insight into the hot drawing process of aluminum alloy sheet, simulations of cylindrical cup drawing at elevated temperatures were carried out with experimental validation. The influence of four important process parameters, namely,punch velocity, blank holder force(BHF), friction coefficient and initial forming temperature of blank on drawing characteristics(i.e.minimum thickness and thickness deviation) was investigated with the help of design of experiments(DOE), analysis of variance(ANOVA) and analysis of mean(ANOM). Based on the results of ANOVA, it is shown that the blank holder force has the greatest influence on minimum thickness. The importance of punch velocity for thickness deviation is 44.35% followed by BHF of 24.88%,friction coefficient of 15.77% and initial forming temperature of blank of 14.995%. After determining the significance of each factor on forming characteristics, how the individual parameter affects characteristics was further analyzed by ANOM. 展开更多

The construction of waste rock dumps on existing tailing ponds has been put into practice in China to save precious land resources. This work focuses on the safety assessment of the Daheishan molybdenum mine waste rock dump under construction on two adjoining tailings ponds. The consolidation of the tailings foundation and the filling quality of the waste rock are investigated by the transient electromagnetic method through detecting water-rich areas and loose packing areas, from which, the depth of phreatic line is also estimated. With such information and the material parameters, the numerical method based on shear strength reduction is applied to analyzing the overall stability of the waste rock dump and the tailings ponds over a number of typical cross sections under both current and designed conditions, where the complex geological profiles exposed by site investigation are considered. Through numerical experiments, the influence of soft lenses in the tailings and possible loose packing areas in the waste rock is examined. Although large displacements may develop due to the soft tailings foundation, the results show that the waste rock dump satisfies the safety requirements under both present and designed conditions. 展开更多

Reinforced concrete(RC) load bearing wall is widely used in high-rise and mid-rise buildings. Due to the number of walls in plan and reduction in lateral force portion, this system is not only stronger against earthquakes, but also more economical. The effect of progressive collapse caused by removal of load bearing elements, in various positions in plan and stories of the RC load bearing wall system was evaluated by nonlinear dynamic and static analyses. For this purpose, three-dimensional model of 10-story structure was selected. The analysis results indicated stability, strength and stiffness of the RC load-bearing wall system against progressive collapse. It was observed that the most critical condition for removal of load bearing walls was the instantaneous removal of the surrounding walls located at the corners of the building where the sections of the load bearing elements were changed. In this case, the maximum vertical displacement was limited to 6.3 mm and the structure failed after applying the load of 10 times the axial load bored by removed elements. Comparison between the results of the nonlinear dynamic and static analyses demonstrated that the "load factor" parameter was a reasonable criterion to evaluate the progressive collapse potential of the structure. 展开更多
