UIS might have a great effect on student's outlook of life, helping them to grow as adults armed with noble ideals and entrepreneurial spirits. In order to convey the spirit of original speakers, it is crucial to choose a proper translation theory as a direction. Based on Skopos theory, the paper studied 2014 American UIS translation from the aspect of three rules of Skopos theory, presenting the application of the theory in translation process and to find out how the Skopos theory guides a translation process.展开更多

More and more public signs appear on campus, both in Chinese and English. But owing to various causes, many non-standard translations can be seen everywhere. From the aspects of commonly applied functions of public signs in colleges, this thesis analyses some common non-standard translations in directing public signs, restricting public signs and calling public signs, and proposes some suggestions on standard translation.展开更多

In order to satisfy the social development and cater for market demands, university curriculum reform should be more frequently served for employment, avoiding being always confined to the textbooks and learning pure theory knowledge through memory. In that way, a group of talents who have no knowledge actually will be cultivated, because something that the students learn at the university deviate from the society and after they work on the guard, they need learn the relevant contents from the beginning. To a certain degree, students' career developments are possible to be influenced by the direction and quality of university curriculum reform. To link the university curriculum reform and employment development better, this essay will put forward the effective advice from three aspects.展开更多

Although there has been an increased demand for research, few studies have been conducted directly with university professors to obtain their perceptions of the challenges the increased focus on research have presented. This study employed a qualitative methodology to inquire into the change of work life bought about by the increased demand for research, and the strategies professors have adopted to balance their teaching, research and service. It also inquired into the barriers to conducting research, and effective support strategies. Some barriers and support identified in this study were in accordance with what previous studies have identified. Perhaps because the professors interviewed were all tenured, they noted that the increased demand for research had not significantly changed their work life. Strategies they used to help them meet the demands for research included, but were not limited to, integrating their teaching and research, and collaborating with others on research projects. Barriers to research included bureaucratic constraints, newness to research, lack of time, and lack of funding.展开更多

Previous studies in this area have investigated the effects of instructional quality and academic demands separately and have been limited primarily to examining findings using student samples fromthe United States. With Japanese college students' perceptions of self-improvementin English language courses as the dependent variable, the present study directly tests the hypothesis that students who perceive instructional quality to be higher, andcourse demands to be greater, also estimate higher levels of self-improvement in English language skills. The analysis provides strong support for this hypothesis.Higher ratings of instruction and academic demands have already beenshown to increase levels of student learning(Greimel-Fuhrmann and Geyer 2003;Nois and Hudson 2006; Mc Fadden and Dart 1992). The present study is the first toprovide direct evidence of the relative importance of student evaluations ofinstructional quality and academic demands as predictors of student learning and thefirst ever to do so with a sample of Japanese college students enrolled in a required English as a foreign language course. Our hypothesis is that Japanese students whoperceive instructional quality to be higher, and course demands to be greater, estimate higher levels of self-improvement in English language skills. Thus we test Japanese students' attitudes toward instructional quality and course demands asindependent variables predicting their perceptions of self-improvement in English language courses. The research focuses on Japanese students' improvement in English language skills because English education in Japan is an arena in which thedebate over limited English proficiency rages on, and because other research suggests reconsideration of English education in light of the demands of the rapidly expanding global era(Amaki 2008).展开更多

KE emphasizes HKU’s desire to interact with its community for a mutual benefit. A new five-year strategic plan(2009-2014) sets out operational priorities and key indicators to enable knowledge exchange at HKU. Chief among these is the establishment of an exchange hub to make HKU researchers and their research products highly visible. The institutional repository of HKU, the HKU Scholars Hub, developed by its University Libraries, has become this KE exchange hub. Now the Hub includes HKU ResearcherPages, featuring the accomplishments of each HKU professoriate staff. HKU’s policy on knowledge exchange and the HKU ResearcherPages have increased the incentive for faculties, departments, and authors to place more items in open access(OA). This paper will discuss what KE is, the benefits it can bring to the university and its reputation, and how it can increase OA deposit.展开更多

It represents an “extension” from a traditional library. The core and essence is to build a favorable surroundings for knowledge accumulation, knowledge transfer and knowledge communication. Management communication covers information transfer and organization cooperation. Compared with traditional library, the management communication in digital library shoulders the commitment to support knowledge innovation. On the basis of analysis of the connotation of digital library, this paper analysed the aspects of management communication, including communicators, communication styles, contents, channels and outer communication, all of which tries to construct an integrated model of management communication in a digital library and turns a library into an actual “knowledge fountain”.展开更多
