Molecular dynamics study of primary radiation damage in TiVTa concentrated solid-solution alloy

The primary radiation damage in pure V and TiVTa concentrated solid-solution alloy(CSA)was studied using a molecular dynamics method.We have performed displacement cascade simulations to explore the generation and evolution behavior of irradiation defects.The results demonstrate that the defect accumulation and agglomeration in TiVTa CSA are significantly suppressed compared to pure V.The peak value of Frenkel pairs during cascade collisions in TiVTa CSA is much higher than that in pure V due to the lower formation energy of point defects.Meanwhile,the longer lifetime of the thermal spike relaxation and slow energy dissipation capability of TiVTa CSA can facilitate the recombination of point defects.The defect agglomeration rate in TiVTa CSA is much lower due to the lower binding energy of interstitial clusters and reduced interstitial diffusivity.Furthermore,the occurrence probability of dislocation loops in TiVTa CSA is lower than that in pure V.The reduction in primary radiation damage may enhance the radiation resistance of TiVTa CSA,and the improved radiation tolerance is primarily attributed to the relaxation stage and long-term defect evolution rather than the ballistic stage.These results can provide fundamental insights into irradiation-induced defects evolution in refractory CSAs. 展开更多

Trehalose(TRE)was used to improve the gastrointestinal tolerance of Lactobacillus plantarum embedded with whey protein concentrate/pullulan(WPC/PUL)hydrogel and the embedded L.plantarum was applied to juice.The study indicated that 5%TRE significantly increased the viable counts of L.plantarum embedded in WPC/PUL hydrogel from(8.83±0.03)to(9.14±0.04)(lg(CFU/g))in simulated gastric juice(SGJ)and from(9.13±0.04)to(9.38±0.04)(lg(CFU/g))in simulated intestinal juice,respectively.The addition of TRE improved the glass transition temperature of WPC/PUL hydrogel and decreased the hardness and its solubility in SGJ,which may be responsible for the improved protection of WPC/PUL hydrogels on L.plantarum.In addition,TRE increased the viable counts of L.plantarum in WPC/PUL probiotic microcapsule juice at low pH and high temperature during storage. 展开更多

The accumulation of^(222)Rn and^(220)Rn progeny in poorly ventilated environments poses the risk of natural radiation exposure to the public.A previous study indicated that satisfactory results in determining the^(222)Rn and^(220)Rn progeny concentrations by measuring the total alpha counts at five time intervals within 560 min should be expected only in the case of high progeny concentrations in air.To complete the measurement within a relatively short period and adapt it for simultaneous measurements at comparatively lower^(222)Rn and^(220)Rn progeny concentrations,a novel mathematical model was proposed based on the radioactive decay law.This model employs a nonlinear fitting method to distinguish nuclides with overlapping spectra by utilizing the alpha particle counts of non-overlapping spectra within consecutive measurement cycles to obtain the concentrations of^(222)Rn and^(220)Rn progeny in air.Several verification experiments were conducted using an alpha spectrometer.The experimental results demonstrate that the concentrations of^(222)Rn and^(220)Rn progeny calculated by the new method align more closely with the actual circumstances than those calculated by the total count method,and their relative uncertainties are all within±16%.Furthermore,the measurement time was reduced to 90 min,representing an acceleration of 84%.The improved capability of the new method in distinguishing alpha particles with similar energies emitted from ^(218)Po and^(212)Bi,both approximately 6 MeV,contributed to realizing more accurate results.The proposed method has the potential advantage of measuring relatively low concentrations of^(222)Rn and^(220)Rn progeny in air more quickly via air filtration. 展开更多

Because of the self-absorption effect of gamma-rays and neutrons, and the interference of chlorine in the neutron field, the linear relationship between the iron analytical coefficient and total iron content was poor, increasing the error in the quantitative analysis. To solve this problem, gamma-ray self-absorption compensation and a neutron field correction algorithm were proposed, and the experimental results have been corrected using this algorithm. The results show that the linear relationship between the iron analytical coefficient and total iron content was considerably improved after the correction. The linear correlation coefficients reached 0.99 or more. 展开更多

Many different photocatalytic systems have been developed, while the alternative photo-reactors are still insufficiently investigated. In this work, photoreduction of COwith HO into CHwas investigated in a modified concentrating solar reactor, using TiOand Pt/TiOas the catalysts. The TiOand Pt/TiOsamples were extensively characterized by different techniques including powder X-ray diffraction(XRD), Nadsorption/desorption and UV–vis absorption. The catalytic performance of the TiOand Pt/TiOsamples in the gas phase was evaluated under unconcentrated and concentrated Xe-lamp light and nature solar light with different concentrating ratios. Various parameters of the reaction system and the catalysts were investigated and optimized to maximize the catalytic performance of COreduction system. Compared with the normal light irradiation, the TiOand Pt/TiOsamples show higher photocatalytic activity(about 6–7 times) for reducing COinto CHunder concentrated Xe-lamp light and nature solar light. In the range of experimental light intensity, it is found that the concentration of the light makes it suitable for the catalytic reaction, and increases the utilization efficiency of the TiOand Pt/TiOsamples while does not decrease the quantum efficiency. 展开更多

Novel Mn–Fe–Mg-and Mn–Fe–Ce-loaded alumina(Mn–Fe–Mg/Al2O3 and Mn–Fe–Ce/Al2O3) were developed to catalytically ozonate reverse osmosis concentrates generated from petroleum refinery wastewaters(PRW-ROC). Highly dispersed 100–300-nm deposits of composite multivalent metal oxides of Mn(Mn^2+), Mn^3+,and Mn^4+, Fe(Fe^2+)and Fe^3+ and Mg(Mg^2+), or Ce(Ce^4+) were achieved on Al2O3 supports. The developed Mn–Fe–Mg/Al2O3 and Mn–Fe–Ce/Al2O3 exhibited higher catalytic activity during the ozonation of PRW-ROC than Mn–Fe/Al2O3, Mn/Al2O-3, Fe/Al2O3, and Al2O3. Chemical oxygen demand removal by Mn–Fe–Mg/Al2O3-or Mn–Fe–Ce/Al2O3-catalyzed ozonation increased by 23.9% and23.2%, respectively, in comparison with single ozonation.Mn–Fe–Mg/Al2O3 and Mn–Fe–Ce/Al2O3 notably promoted áOH generation and áOH-mediated oxidation. A novel method of pellet calcification roasting-H_(2)SO_(4) leaching was proposed to efficiently separate and extract vanadium(V)from vanadium-titanium(V-Ti)magnetite concentrates.The leaching rate of V is as high as 88.98%,while the leaching rate of impurity iron is only 1.79%.Moreover,the leached pellets can be used as raw materials for blast furnace ironmaking after secondary roasting.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry(SEMEDS)analyses showed that V^(3+)was oxidized to V^(5+)after roasting at 1200℃,and V^(5+)was then leached by H_(2)SO_(4).X-ray diffraction(XRD)analyses and single factor experiment revealed a minimal amount of dissolved Fe_(2)O_(3) during H_(2)SO_(4) leaching.Therefore,a high separation degree of V and iron(Fe)from V-Ti magnetite concentrate was achieved through H_(2)SO_(4) leaching.Compared with the traditional roastingleaching process,this process can achieve a high selectivity of V and Fe,and has excellent prospects for industrial production. 展开更多

The concept of a double-walled reactor tube is proposed and implemented. Preliminary experiments using an external plasma heating source are carried out to validate this concept. The results point out the efficient CH4 dissociation above 1850 K (CH4 conversion over 90%) and the key influence of the gas residence time. Simulations are performed to predict the conversion rate of CH4 at the reactor outlet, and are consistent with experimental tendencies. A solar reactor prototype featuring four independent double-walled tubes is then developed. The heat in high temperature process required for the endothermic reaction of natural gas pyrolysis is supplied by concentrated solar energy. The tubes are heated uniformly by radiation using the blackbody effect of a cavity-receiver absorbing the concentrated solar irradiation through a quartz window. The gas composition at the reactor outlet, the chemical conversion of CH4, and the yield to H2 are determined with respect to reaction temperature, inlet gas flow-rates, and feed gas composition. The longer the gas residence time, the higher the CH4 conversion and H2 yield, whereas the lower the amount of acetylene. A CH4 conversion of 99% and H2 yield of about 85% are measured at 1880 K with 30% CH4 in the feed gas (6 L/min injected and residence time of 18 ms), A temperature increase from 1870 K to 1970 K does not improve the H2 yield. 展开更多

Lithium–sulfur batteries have been regarded as the most promising high-energy electrochemical energy storage device owing to the high energy density, low cost and environmental friendliness. However, traditional lithium–sulfur batteries using ether-based electrolytes often suffer from severe safety risks(i.e. combustion). Herein, we demonstrated a novel kind of flame-retardant concentrated electrolyte(6.5 M lithium bis(trifluoromethylsulphonyl)imide/fluoroethylene carbonate) for highly-safe and widetemperature lithium–sulfur batteries. It was found that such concentrated electrolyte showed superior flame retardancy, high lithium-ion transference number(0.69) and steady lithium plating/stripping behavior(2.5 m Ah cm^(-2) over 3000 h). Moreover, lithium–sulfur batteries using this flame-retardant concentrated electrolyte delivered outstanding cycle performance in a wide range of temperatures(-10 °C, 25 °C and 90 °C). This superior battery performance is mainly attributed to the LiF-rich solid electrolyte interphase formed on lithium metal anode, which can effectively suppress the continuous growth of lithium dendrites. Above-mentioned fascinating characteristics would endow this flame-retardant concentrated electrolyte a very promising candidate for highly-safe and wide-temperature lithium–sulfur batteries. 展开更多

Lithium(Li) metal is an ideal anode material for rechargeable Li batteries, due to its high theoretical specific capacity(3860 mAh/g), low density(0.534 g/cm3), and low negative electrochemical potential(-3.040 V vs. standard hydrogen electrode). In this work, the concentrated electrolytes with dual salts, composed of Li[N(SO2F)2](Li FSI) and Li[N(SO2CF3)2](Li TFSI) were studied. In this dual-salt system, the capacity retention can even be maintained at 95.7%after 100 cycles in Li|Li FePO4 cells. A Li|Li cell can be cycled at 0.5 mA/cm2 for more than 600 h, and a Li|Cu cell can be cycled at 0.5 m A/cm2 for more than 200 cycles with a high average Coulombi efficiency of 99%. These results show that the concentrated dual-salt electrolytes exhibit superior electrochemical performance and would be a promising candidate for application in rechargeable Li batteries. 展开更多

A Zr-Gd alloy with neutron poisoning properties and resistance to boiling concentrated HNO3 corrosion was developed based on a corrosion-resistant Zr-702 alloy to meet the demand for neutron shielding in the closed-loop treatment of spent fuel and the nuclear chemical industry.In this study,1 wt.%,3 wt.%,5 wt.%,7 wt.%,and 9 wt.%Zr-Gd alloys were designed and fabricated with Zr-702 as the control element.The electrochemical behavior of the Zr-Gd alloys in boiling concentrated HNO3 was investigated,and the neutron shielding effect on plate thickness and Gd content was simulated.The experimental results demonstrate that the corrosion resistance of the alloy decreased slightly before~7-9 wt.%with increasing Gd content;this is the inflection point of its corrosion resistance.The alloy uniformly dissolved the Gd content that could not be dissolved in the Zr lattice,resulting in numerous micropores on the passivation coating,which deteriorated and accelerated the corrosion rate.The MCNP simulation demonstrated that when the Gd content was increased to 5 wt.%,a 2-mm-thick plate can shield 99.9%neutrons;an alloy with a Gd content≥7 wt.%required only a 1-mm-thick plate,thereby showing that the addition of Gd provides an excellent neutron poisoning effect.Thus,the corrosion resistance and neutron shielding performance of the Zr-Gd alloy can meet the harsh service requirements of the nuclear industry. 展开更多

The results show that leaching time,liquid to solid ratio,leaching temperature,agitation speed,and sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide concentrations all have a significant effect on the removal of molybdenum.The optimum process operating parameters were found to be:time,4 h;sodium hydroxide concentration,10%;sodium hypochlorite concentration,8%;liquid to solid ratio,10:1;temperature,50℃;and, agitation speed,500 r/min.Under these conditions the extraction of molybdenum is greater than 99,9%and the extraction of copper is less than 0.01%.A shrinking particle model could be used to describe the leaching process.The apparent activation energy of the dissolution reaction was found to be approximately 8.8 kJ/mol. 展开更多

The temperature rising behaviors of molybdenite concentrate were investigated in the field of microwave. This process was conducted to show the microwave absorption properties of molybdenite concentrate and the feasibility of microwave roasting molybdenite concentrate to prepare high purity MOO3. The dielectric constant,dielectric loss,and loss tangent increase from 3. 51 to 5. 04,0. 22 to 0. 51 and 0. 065 to 0. 102 respectively. They are proportional to the apparent density of molybdenite concentrate in the range of 0. 9-1. 4 g/cm3. The results show that the molybdenite concentrate has good microwave absorption capacity in the conventional density range. The temperature rising curves show that the apparent heating rate of the molybdenite concentrate increases with the increase in microwave power and decreases with the increase in the sample mass and thickness. The temperature of concentrate sample of 100 g reaches approximately 800 ℃ after 5 min of microwave treatment at 0. 5 kW of power. Our findings show that it is feasible to prepare high-purity MOO3from molybdenite concentrate by microwave roasting. 展开更多

The electrolyte integrated with lithium metal anodes is subjected to the issues of interfacial compatibility and stability,which strongly influence the performances of high-energy lithium metal batteries.Here,we report a new electrolyte recipe viz.a moderately concentrated electrolyte comprising of 2.4 M lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide(LiFSI)in a cosolvent mixture of fluorinated ethylene carbonate(FEC)and dimethyl carbonate(DMC)with relatively high ion conductivity.Owing to the preferential decomposition of LiFSI and FEC,an inorganic-rich interphase with abundant Li_(2)O and LiF nanocrystals is formed on lithium metal with improved robustness and ion transfer kinetics,enabling lithium plating/stripping with an extremely low overpotential of~8 mV and the average CE of 97%.When tested in Li||LiFePO_(4) cell,this electrolyte provides long-term cycling with a capacity retention of 98.3%after 1000 cycles at 1 C and an excellent rate performance of 20 C,as well as an areal capacity of 1.35 mA h cm^(-2)at the cathode areal loading of 9 mg cm^(-2).Moreover,the Li||LiFePO_(4) cell exhibits excellent wide-temperature performances(-40~60℃),including long-term cycling stability over 2600 cycles without visible capacity fading at 0℃,as well as extremely high average CEs of 99.6%and 99.8% over 400 cycles under-20℃ and 45℃. 展开更多

The traditional methods of surface movement and deformation prediction seldom take account of the effects of small structures. However, because of the effects of small structures, the buildings located at the bottom of subsidence trough for full-extraction can not be protected by the flat bottom, but destroyed severely by concentrated strains in the fault-half-trough. Under this coudition, if tbere is an important building at the bottom of subsidence trough, it is significant to accurately determinate the directions and values of concentrated strains and the location of concentrated strain zone. The mechanical method can calculate the maximum principal strain, including bi-directional horizontal deformation, shearing strain and their directions, which are necessary to reinforce the buildings. The mechanical method has more advantages than the method of scalar quantity horizontal deformation. This paper dwells on the effects of small structures on surface movement and deformation using the mechanical method in Pingdingshan mining area. 展开更多

In this study, effects of different nanoparticles and porosity of absorber tube on the performance of a Concentrating Parabolic Solar Collector(CPSC) were investigated. A section of porous-filled absorber tube was modeled as a semi-circular cavity under the solar radiation which is filled by nanofluids and the governing equations were solved by FlexPDE numerical software. The effect of four physical parameters, nanoparticles type, nanoparticles volume fraction(φ), Darcy number(Da) and Rayleigh number(Ra), on the Nusselt number(Nu) was discussed. It turns out that Cu nanoparticle is the most suitable one for such solar collectors, compared to the commonly used Fe_3O_4, Al_2O_3, TiO_2.With the increased addition of Cu nanoparticles all the parameters φ, Da and Ra shows a significant increase against the Nu, indicates the enhanced heat transfer in such cases. As a result, low concentration of Cu nanoparticle suspension combined with porous matrix was supposed to be beneficial for the performance enhancement of concentrating parabolic solar collector. 展开更多

Concentrated photovoltaic(CPV)has been identified as an effective method to further enhance the efficiency of photovoltaic cells.Previous studies on CPV mainly focused on III-V multi-junction cells.Nevertheless,Ⅲ-ⅤCPV technology is mainly used in niche applications due to its high cost.Here,we use metal-halide perovskite solar cell(PSC)to demonstrate a concentrated photovoltaic-thermoelectric tandem device.The thermoelectric generator(TEG)is utilized to reduce the effect of heat generation under concentrated solar irradiance.Our tandem system achieved a peak power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 25.0%at a solar concentration of 3 suns.This efficiency exceeded that of the single PSC by~4.7%.Our work proves that by controlling the heat flow in concentrated PSC-TEG tandem system,the redundant heat produced by upper PSC can be effectively reused.This tandem structure provides a promising approach to improve the efficiency and stability of PSC under low-concentrated solar irradiation. 展开更多
