Contemporary Chinese political research usually adopts three basic methods of field investigation,theoretical creation and practical participation,which respectively correspond to the life logic,theoretical logic and ...Contemporary Chinese political research usually adopts three basic methods of field investigation,theoretical creation and practical participation,which respectively correspond to the life logic,theoretical logic and practical logic in political functioning.Field investigation has become an important approach to"understanding Chinese politics"and promoting the localization of contemporary Chinese political research.Meanwhile,the new perspective of theoretical field besides empirical field marks the self-awareness and transition of the methodology in Chinese political research.To study Chinese experience itself,we should not only consciously focus upon China,but also continuously promote experience based on field research,as well as perfect and improve the research through the interaction between experience,theory and practice.The popular paradigms at home and abroad,including"authoritarianism"and"a developmental country",fail to explain Chinese experience and Chinese political development,so we still need a theoretical paradigm more appropriate to Chinese experience and practice.展开更多

Political skill is a critical interpersonal competency.However,the self-reported political skill scale is unsuitable for personnel selection beacuse it may lead to socially desirable responses,thereby compromising the...Political skill is a critical interpersonal competency.However,the self-reported political skill scale is unsuitable for personnel selection beacuse it may lead to socially desirable responses,thereby compromising the authenticity of the test scores.Consequently,the absence of a valid assessment method limits the application of political skill in selection con-texts.In this study,we applied the situational judgment test(SJT)method to measure political skill and conducted two sub-studies to evaluate the reliability and validity of the situational judgment test of political skill(SJT-PS).Study 1 focused on the development and initial testing of the SJT-PS.The results demonstrated that the SJT-PS possessed strong structural validity and reliability.Study 2 aimed to assess the criterion-related and incremental validity of the SJT-PS.To evaluate the predictive validity of the SJT-PS in selection contexts,we first compared the correlations between the SJT-PS and self-reported political skill with social desirability.Subsequently,we selected team-member exchange(TMX)and workplace popularity as criteria.The results indicated that the SJT-PS was less affected by social desirability,while self-reported political skill exhibited a significant positive correlation with social desirability.Additionally,the SJT-PS positively pre-dicted TMX and workplace popularity and demonstrated incremental validity over the self-reported political skill scale.展开更多
The paper raises issues in hydro politics and hydro political complexes,places this within the realm of political and social/human ecology and conceptually affirms the complex nature of the politics of river basin man...The paper raises issues in hydro politics and hydro political complexes,places this within the realm of political and social/human ecology and conceptually affirms the complex nature of the politics of river basin management.It then provides a few insights into some of the hydro political issues in the Zambezi River Basin(ZRB),shared by 8 countries,during the pre-colonial period,the colonial period,and the contemporary post-independence situations.The scenarios envisaged for the next several decades are then raised from policy and consultants' documents.Issues that have been enduring throughout the three periods are noted and assessed for their input into the future of the river basin.The major point of this paper is to illustrate the complex mosaic of actors,interests,intrigues that needs to be accounted for in considering river basin hydrology and the politics surrounding management of the interests around that hydrology.The problems of managing resources that are viewed as international within the confines of national interests are noted.National self-interest is noted to be only protected within the rubric of international and supranational consideration.The enduring impacts of history,especially the interests of indigenous people of the region are emphasized.As well,an enduring aspect of the political economy of the basin is that the society is largely a-grarian in nature.Hydro Politics of river basin management in the context of largely agrarian economies whose other natural endowments render it ripe for exploitation by outsiders needs to be better articulated.Hydro Politics in such contexts would be extremely limited and incomplete without recourse to the exploitation of the other natural resources.Research into the amalgam of issues raised here must be enhanced,very significantly.This paper in essence juxtaposes natural resource complexes and the issues around governance,distribution and redistribution of values and benefits to various actors and interests in ZRB.Water and river basin management is an intensely complex political subject within the purview of natural resource endowments.展开更多

Global issues, vital to the survival of mankind, rise to the top agenda of national governments. The epicenter of global power is shifting from U.S. and Europe to the rest of the regions. The global "political excitement and zeal" is rolling on. All exact more on the competence of global governance. The current international multilateral mechanisms are in "competence deficit", worsening either in terms of adequacy, validity or legitimacy. The call for the reform of it is ever soaring. China by the way is at once engaging in the multilateral diplomacy transforming the international system and facing the growing pressure of assuming "leadership" and "international responsibility". China needs to continuously adapt to the changed national identity in the multilateral diplomacy, to reconcile the multilateral mechanisms that deal with regions and domains in China's strategic planning and laying-out, to organically associate the short-term and long-term goals and to upgrade the concept of harmonious world in the practice of multilateral diplomacy.展开更多
