Three types of grinding-straight surface grinding, deep grinding(circular sawing), and vertical spindle grinding-were studied. Some surface grinding tests were also conducted using a CBN(cubic boron nitride) wheel. Temperature distributions on the workpiece surface were measured using a foil thermocouple and the energy partition to the workpiece was estimated using a temperature matching method. The temperature for CBN surface grinding was found to be much higher than for diamond grinding. Energy partitions to the granite were 30%~36% for CBN surface grinding, 25%~32% for diamond surface grinding, about 53% for vertical spindle grinding, and 5.5%~9% for diamond deep grinding. The low energy partition value in deep grinding also suggested that more of the heat generated by grinding in this case can be conducted to the grinding tool and promote tool wear.展开更多

However, it is difficult to machine and get good surface quality. Some parts made of these materials have large machining allowances and need to be produced with large batch, but the machining efficiency is very low with usual grinding method. So it is of great importance to research the high efficiency grinding technology of hard and brittle materials. Electrolytic in-process dressing (ELID) grinding is a new grinding technology which has been adopted to the ultra-precision machining of hard and brittle materials. With the function of in-process dressing of metal bond diamond and CBN wheel, ELID grinding has the ability to keep the sharpness of the wheel surface and is widely used in fine abrasive grinding, but it also has the potentialities to high efficiency grinding. In this paper, the mechanism of ELID grinding and its grinding performance are analyzed, then the cast iron bond diamond wheels and ELID grinding device are used on a surface grinder to research the feasibility of ELID grinding to high efficiency grinding. To make comparison, the garnet ferrite (YAG) work piece has been machined in plunge grinding both by ELID grinding and by the resin bond diamond wheel. The grinding force and surface quality are tested and analyzed. It has been found that the grinding force of the cast iron bond diamond wheel with ELID grinding is apparently smaller than that of the resin bond diamond wheel. Under the same conditions, it is about 2/5~3/5 as the force using the resin bond diamond wheel. So with the same grinder and machining conditions, ELID grinding can machine work piece with greater depth of cut. Because of the smaller grinding force, it is also beneficial to avoid the edge collapse of the work piece and keep the integrity of the grinding surface. This experiment shows that the grinding efficiency can be highly improved and the surface quality be ensured by applying ELID grinding technology and adopting large grinding depth. The results indicate that the ELID grinding technology can be effectively used in the high efficiency machining of garnet ferrite and other hard and brittle materials.展开更多

Temperatur e response at the wheel-workpiece interface was measured using a grindable foil /workpiece thermocouple. Specimens with different grinding temperatures were obt ained through changing grinding conditions including depth of cut, workpiece fee d speed, and coolant supply. Changes in surface roughness, residual stress, meta llographies, ground surface morphology, and micro hardness on the specimens were then analyzed. Bending fatigue tests were separately conducted at room temperat ure and 950oC in an effort to evaluate the influence of temperatures on the serv ice life of the ground specimens. A different burning color was found on the gro und workpiece surfaces when grinding temperatures are over a critical value. Alo ng with the emergence of burning color, roughness of the ground workpiece surfac e increased greatly compared with the surfaces without burning color, which was attributed to the plastically deformed coatings on the workpiece surface with el evated temperatures. Excepting the surface roughness, other items concerning the surface integrity of the ground workpiece were not affected by temperatures pro vided that grinding temperatures are not high enough to cause grinding cracks. B ased on the findings in this study, the grinding of the nickel-based superalloy can be divided into two stages in order to increase production efficiency, in which case the first stage is to reach an high material removal rate without concerning of the presence of burning color, whereas the second stage is to remo ve the plastically deformed coatings in order to decrease surface roughness.展开更多

Flotation performances of calcite particles under different grinding patterns involving the use of HPGR, a jaw crusher, a dry ball mill, a wet ball mill, and a wet rod mill were studied using single mineral flotation tests. The surface properties of the particles under different grinding patterns were characterized to determine the flotation performance variation in terms of specific surface area, particle size distribution, AFM, XPS, and zeta potential. The major properties included the reduction ratio, liberation, specific surface energy, and specific surface area. The results showed that the fracture of low-grade hematite ore in HPGR was an interactive dynamic process in which the interaction between coarse particles of gangue minerals and fine particles of valuable minerals was alternately continuous with increased compactness and compacting strength of materials. Within a range of 2.8–4.4 N/mm^2, valuable minerals were crushed after preferentially absorbing energy, whereas gangue minerals were not completely crushed and only acted as an energy transfer medium. Within a range of 4.4–5.2 N/mm^2, gangue minerals were adequately crushed after absorbing the remaining energy, whereas preferentially crushed valuable minerals acted as an energy transfer medium. Within a range of 5.2–6.0 N/mm^2 range, the low-grade hematite ore was not further comminuted because of the "size effect" on the strength of materials, and the comminution effect of materials became stable.展开更多

The results indicate that oxidized hematite pellets require higher preheating temperature and longer preheating time to attain required compression strength of pellets compared with the common magnetite oxidized pellets. It is found that when the hematite concentrates are pretreated by high pressure roll grinding (HPRG), the compression strengths of preheated and roasted oxidized hematite pellets get improved even with lower preheating and roasting temperatures and shorter preheating and roasting time. The mechanism for HPRG to improve roasting properties of oxidized pellets were investigated and the cause mainly lies in the increase of micro-sized particles and the decrease of dispersion degree for hematite concentrates, which promotes the hematite concentrate particles to be compacted, the solid-phase crystallization, and finally the formation of Fe203 bonding bridges during subsequent high temperature roasting process.展开更多

Using these background details, a suggested thesis was put forward regarding the need to develop a device which will allow for the shaping of the macrogeometry of the grinding wheel (cylindrical and conical surfaces) and the microdiscontinuities within the dressing operation simultaneously. The device was presented and prepared in two functional variants (horizontal and vertical mounting of the motor), then a prototype was described. An example of the grinding wheel active surface, shaped by using this device, was also presented. The theoretical analysis and experimental verification performed determine that the error of shaping the conic chamfer angle within the range of 0-1.5°, using the developed device, is approximately ±3%.展开更多

However, manganese ore fines are mainly agglomerated by sintering due to its high combined water which adversely affects the roasting performance of pellets. In this work, high pressure roll grinding(HPRG) process and optimization of temperature elevation system were investigated to improve the strength of fired manganese ore pellets. It is shown that the manganese ore possesses good ballability after being pretreated by HPRG twice, and good green balls were produced under the conditions of blending 2.0% bentonite in the feed, balling for 7 min at 16.00% moisture. High quality roasted pellets with the compressive strength of 2711 N per pellet were manufactured through preheating at 1050 °C for 10 min and firing at 1335 °C for 15 min by controlling the cracks formation. The fired manganese pellets keep the strength by the solid interconnection of recrystallized pyrolusite grains and the binding of manganite liquid phase which filled the pores and clearance among minerals. The product pellets contain high Mn grade and low impurities, and can be used to smelt ferromanganese, which provides a possible way to use imported manganese ore fines containing high combined water to produce high value ferromanganese.展开更多

文摘Non-uniform rational B-spline(NURBS)curves are combined with the Kriging model to present a prediction method of the rail grinding profile for a grinding train. As a worn rail profile is a free-form curve, the parameterized model of a rail profile is constructed by using the cubic NURBS curve.Taking the removed area of the rail profile cross-section by grinding as the calculation index of the grinding amount, the grinding amount calculation model of a grinding wheel is established based on the area integral formula of the cubic NURBS curve. To predict the grinding amount of a grinding wheel in different modes,a Kriging model of the grinding amount is constructed, taking the travel speed of a grinding train, the grinding angle and grinding pressure of a grinding wheel as the variables, and considering the grinding amount of a grinding wheel as the response. On this basis, the prediction method of the rail grinding profile is presented based on the order-forming mechanisms. The effectiveness of this method is verified based on a practical application.

文摘The fragmentation mechanism of low-grade hematite ore in a high pressure grinding roll(HPGR) was studied based on the characteristics of comminuted products at different specific pressure levels. Within a range of 5.2–6.0 N/mm^2 range, the low-grade hematite ore was not further comminuted because of the "size effect" on the strength of materials, and the comminution effect of materials became stable.

文摘The mechanism of high pressure roll grinding on improvement of compression strength of oxidized hematite pellets was researched by considering their roasting properties. The mechanism for HPRG to improve roasting properties of oxidized pellets were investigated and the cause mainly lies in the increase of micro-sized particles and the decrease of dispersion degree for hematite concentrates, which promotes the hematite concentrate particles to be compacted, the solid-phase crystallization, and finally the formation of Fe203 bonding bridges during subsequent high temperature roasting process.
文摘Crushing roller is one of the main parts of High-p re ssure Grinding Roller, which is a kind of high efficient ore crushing equipment. A kind of assembled roller, which is more convenient to renovate worn surface b y simply replacing segmented surface of the roller, was developed. The structura l models of assembled roller’s components were designed with SolidWorks softwar e based on feature modeling, these solid models of the roller were virtually ass embled. Through this work, not only was the assemble interference checked out so as to examine validity of the structure design, but also these solid models cou ld be recognized by COSMOS/Works software, through which the finite element an alysis can be done. Then the stress and displacement of the main shaft and sur face segment in two different working states were analyzed and detected quickly according to the analysis results with COSMOS/Works. In conclusion, the optimum clearance of 1.0~2.0 mm between concave-convex studded segments is determined to make the using life of assembled roller longer.
文摘The selected modifications to the construction of grinding wheels were described which facilitate an increase in the material removal rate (grinding wheels with conic chamfer and grinding wheels with microdiscontinuities on the active surface). The theoretical analysis and experimental verification performed determine that the error of shaping the conic chamfer angle within the range of 0-1.5°, using the developed device, is approximately ±3%.

文摘As a production quality index of hematite grinding process, particle size(PS)is hard to be measured in real time.To achieve the PS estimation, this paper proposes a novel data driven model of PS using stochastic configuration network(SCN)with robust technique, namely, robust SCN(RSCN).Firstly, this paper proves the universal approximation property of RSCN with weighted least squares technique.Secondly, three robust algorithms are presented by employing M-estimation with Huber loss function,M-estimation with interquartile range(IQR)and nonparametric kernel density estimation(NKDE)function respectively to set the penalty weight.Comparison experiments are first carried out based on the UCI standard data sets to verify the effectiveness of these methods, and then the data-driven PS model based on the robust algorithms are established and verified.Experimental results show that the RSCN has an excellent performance for the PS estimation.

文摘Pelletization is one of useful processes for the agglomeration of iron ore or concentrates. The product pellets contain high Mn grade and low impurities, and can be used to smelt ferromanganese, which provides a possible way to use imported manganese ore fines containing high combined water to produce high value ferromanganese.
