Effects of Yb/Zr micro-alloying on microstructure,mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy

The effects of Yb/Zr micro-alloying on the microstructure,mechanical properties,and corrosion resistance of an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy were systematically investigated.Upon the addition of Yb/Zr to the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy,the grain boundaries were pinned by high-density nanosized Al_(3)(Yb,Zr)precipitates during extrusion deformation,consequently,the average grain size was significantly reduced from 232.7μm to 3.2μm.This grain refinement contributed substantially to the improvement in both strength and elongation.The ultimate tensile strength,yield strength,and elongation of the Yb/Zr modified alloy increased to 705.3 MPa,677.6 MPa,and 8.7%,respectively,representing enhancements of 16.2%,19.3%,and 112.2%compared to the unmodified alloy.Moreover,the distribution of MgZn_(2)phases along grain boundaries became more discontinuous in the Yb/Zr modified alloy,which effectively retarded the propagation of intergranular corrosion and improved the corrosion resistance. 展开更多

The evolution of mechanical properties,localized corrosion resistance of a high purity Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy during non-isothermal aging(NIA)was investigated by hardness test,electrical conductivity test,tensile test,intergranular corrosion test,exfoliation corrosion test,slow strain rate tensile test and electrochemical test,and the mechanism has been discussed based on microstructure examination by optical microscopy,electron back scattered diffraction,scanning electron microscopy and scanning transmission electron microscopy.The NIA treatment includes a heating stage from 40℃to 180℃with a rate of 20℃/h and a cooling stage from 180℃to 40℃with a rate of 10℃/h.The results show that the hardness and strength increase rapidly during the heating stage of NIA since the increasing temperature favors the nucleation and the growth of strengthening precipitates and promotes the transformation of Guinier-Preston(GPI)zones toη'phase.During the cooling stage,the sizes ofη'phase increase with a little change in the number density,leading to a further slight increase of the hardness and strength.As NIA proceeds,the corroded morphology in the alloy changes from a layering feature to a wavy feature,the maximum corrosion depth decreases,and the reason has been analyzed based on the microstructural and microchemical feature of precipitates at grain boundaries and subgrain boundaries. 展开更多

Microarc oxidation is an effective surface treatment for improving certain properties of metals and their alloys.In this paper,TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O and TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O@CeO_(2)coatings were prepared on Ti-6Al-4V by microarc oxidation.Thecoatings exhibited good corrosion resistance and antimicrobial properties.X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electronmicroscopy(SEM),and 3D laser confocal were used to characterize the coatings.The properties of TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O and TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O@CeO_(2)coatings were analyzed,including microstructure,surface roughness,corrosion resistance,andantimicrobial properties.The electrochemical results showed that the coatings prepared by microarc oxidation hadenhanced corrosion resistance compared to the substrate.The antibacterial properties of TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O and TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O@CeO_(2)coating against Pseudomonas aeruginosa were evaluated by fluorescence microscopy and plate counting.The antibacterial rate of TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O@CeO_(2)coating was up to 99.70%.In summary,the TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O and TiO_(2)/Cu_(2)O@CeO_(2)coatings prepared by microarc oxidation have a potential application background in the field of marine corrosionprotection and biofouling. 展开更多

Al7075 alloy is a typical aviation aluminum with good mechanical properties and anodic oxidation effect.Laser engineered net shaping technology has unique advantages in the integrated forming of high-performance large aircraft structural parts.The manufacturing of 7075 aluminum alloy structural parts by laser engineered net shaping technology has become an important development direction in the future aerospace field.Electrochemical corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys is of vital importance to improve reliability and life-span of lightweight components.A comparative study on microstructure and anti-corrosion performance of Al7075 alloy prepared by laser additive manufacturing and forging technology was conducted.There are hole defects in LENS-fabricated Al7075 alloy with uniformly distributedηphase.No defects are observed in Al7075 forgings.The large S phase particles and small ellipsoidalηphase particles are found in Al matrix.The corrosion mechanisms were revealed according to the analysis of polarization curves and corrosion morphology.It was found that compared with that prepared by forgings,the additive manufactured samples have lower corrosion tendency and higher corrosion rate.Corrosion occurred preferentially at the hole defects.The incomplete passivation film at the defects leads to the formation of a local cell composed of the internal Al,corrosion solution and the surrounding passive film,which further aggravates the corrosion. 展开更多

In order to study the corrosion resistance of high-speed laser cladding(HLC) coating while improving production efficiency,a CoCrFeNiMo_(0.2)high-entropy alloy(HEA) coating was prepared by HLC.The optimized parameters of HLC are laser power of 880 W,scanning speed of 18 m/min,overlapping ratio of 60%,and powder feed speed of 3 r/min.Then,the surface roughness,microstructure,phase composition,element distribution,and electrochemical properties in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution of the coatings were analyzed,respectively.The local surface roughness of the CoCrFeNiMo_(0.2)HEA coating was found to be 15.53 μm.A distinct metallurgical bond could be observed between the coating and the substrate.Compared to the conventional laser cladding(CLC),the results of electrochemical tests showed that CoCrFeNiMo_(0.2)HEA coating exhibited a significant passivation.The corrosion current density of 5.4411 × 10^(-6)A·cm^(-2) and the corrosion potential of-0.7445 V for the HLC coating were calculated by the Tafel extrapolation method.The CLC coating’s corrosion current density and corrosion potential are 2.7083×10^(-5)A·cm^(-2) and-0.9685 V,respectively.The HLC coating shows a superior corrosion resistance,crucially due to the uniform and fine grains.Under various complex and harsh working conditions,this method can be widely used in the field of repairing and remanufacturing of corro sion-proof workpiece s. 展开更多

The influence of chemical composition on corrosion resistance of AZ91D magnesium alloys ingots has been investigated. Mass loss method was applied to evaluate the corrosion resistance of AZ91D alloys and the data were analyzed by multiple regression. The results show that the corrosion resistance of this alloy can be improved by increasing Al, Zn and Mn in a certain degree, and will drop with increasing Si and heavy metals (Fe, Cu, Ni). It is found that ingots received from company F should be listed into unusable materials in terms of the corrosion resistance, while among the five suppliers, the only local company E supplied excellent AZ91D magnesium alloy ingots with the best corrosion resistance. 展开更多

Microarc oxidation (MAO) coatings were prepared on 2024 aluminum alloy in a Na2SiO3-KOH electrolyte with KNinO4 addition varying from 0 to 4 g/L. The microstructure and phases of the coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD), respectively. The corrosion resistance of MAO coatings was evaluated by electrochemical potentiodynamic polarization in 5% (mass fraction) NaCl solution. The results show that when KMnO4 is added into base electrolyte, the growth speed of oxide coatings is increased obviously. The main phase of oxide coatings is Al2O3, and the contents of MnO2 and MnEA104 phases are increased at the top of oxide coatings with increasing the concentration of KMnO4. The solute elements participate in forming the oxide coatings. When a proper concentration of KMnO4 (2.5 g/L) is added into the base solution, the micropores of the MAO coatings are small and compact, and the corrosion resistance of oxide coatings is increased largely. 展开更多

The Al-3.40Mg-1.08Sc alloy plates were manufactured by selective laser melting(SLM) at platform temperatures of 35 ℃ and 200 ℃, respectively, and the corrosion performance of them was studied along height direction. The results show that the corrosion resistance of the alloy plate built at platform temperature of 35 ℃ along height direction is basically the same due to a uniform microstructure;While the corrosion resistance of the alloy plate built at platform temperature of 200 ℃ along height direction is different. The evolution of microstructure and the distribution of secondary phases are investigated, and the results show that the Cu-rich phases in alloy play a key role on corrosion performance. At higher platform temperature, the cooling rate is relative slow and a certain degree of in situ ageing leads to the significantly different distribution of Cu-rich phases along grain boundary. Specimens built at the platform temperature of 200 ℃ are inclined to locate at the crossed grain boundary, rather than continuous segregation of Cu-rich phases along grain boundary that is built at platform temperature of 35 ℃. Therefore, the corrosion resistance of Al-3.40Mg-1.08Sc alloy plate manufactured at platform temperature of 200 ℃ is higher, and presents a gradually decreasing trend along height direction. 展开更多

The microstructure,mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of Zr-30%Ta and Zr-25%Ta-5%Ti alloy prepared by spark plasma sintering(SPS)technology were investigated.The experimental results showed that the Zr-Ta-Ti alloys made by the SPS processing have a low level of porosity with the relative density of 96%−98%.The analyses of XRD and TEM revealed that the Zr-30Ta alloy consists ofα+βphase,and the Zr-25Ta-5Ti alloy belongs to the nearβtype alloy containing a small amount ofαandωphases.With the addition of Ti,the elastic modulus of the alloys was decreased from(99.5±7.2)GPa for Zr-30Ta alloy to(73.6±6.3)GPa for Zr-25Ta-5Ti alloy.Furthermore,it is shown that,in comparison to CP-Ti and Ti-6Al-4V alloy,the Zr-Ta-Ti alloy produced in this work offers an improved corrosion resistance due to the more stable ZrO2 and Ta2O5 generated in the passivation film on the surface of the alloys.This study demonstrates that Zr-Ta-Ti alloys are a promising candidate of novel metallic biomaterials. 展开更多

Anodic oxide films of titanium alloy Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al were sealed in calcium acetate solution. The morphology and composition of the sealed films were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The results show that the sealing process makes the anodic oxide films more uniform. Elemental calcium is presented through the whole depth of the anodic oxide films. The roughness of the anodic oxide films is reduced after the sealing process. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization were used to study the corrosion behavior of the anodic oxide films. It is revealed that the sealing process improves the corrosion resistance of the anodic oxide film of titanium alloy Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al. 展开更多

The aluminium alloy AA2219(Al—Cu—Mg alloy) is widely used in the fabrication of lightweight structures with high strength-to-weight ratio and good corrosion resistance.Welding is main fabrication method of AA2219 alloy for manufacturing various engineering components.Friction stir welding(FSW) is a recently developed solid state welding process to overcome the problems encountered in fusion welding.This process uses a non-consumable tool to generate frictional heat on the abutting surfaces.The welding parameters,such as tool pin profile,rotational speed,welding speed and axial force,play major role in determining the microstructure and corrosion resistance of welded joint.The main objective of this work is to develop a mathematical model to predict the corrosion resistance of friction stir welded AA2219 aluminium alloy by incorporating FSW process parameters.In this work a central composite design with four factors and five levels has been used to minimize the experimental conditions.Dynamic polarization testing was carried out to determine critical pitting potential in millivolt,which is a criteria for measuring corrosion resistance and the data was used in model.Further the response surface method(RSM) was used to develop the model.The developed mathematical model was optimized using the simulated annealing algorithm optimizing technique to maximize the corrosion resistance of the friction stir welded AA2219 aluminium alloy joints. 展开更多

In artificial seawater (3.5%NaCl) and physiological solution (5%NaCl+0.1%H 2O 2), the results show that the alloying elements influence the corrosion behavior of Ni Ti Nb alloys. Generally, Zr improves the corrosion resistance of Ni Ti Nb alloy, Cr reduces its corrosion resistance and V does not change the property. The effects of rare earth ytterbium(Yb)addition and hot extrusion on the microstructure and corrosion behavior of as-cast ADC12 were studied by optical microscopy(OM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)and X-ray diffraction(XRD).The experimental results demonstrate that both the Si phase andβ-Al_(5)FeSi phase in the alloy with 0.9 wt%Yb have been remarkably refined,and the Al3Yb intermetallic compound has also been obtained.The Si,β-Al5FeSi,and rare earth phases are further refined in the alloy at 0.9 wt%Yb and hot extrusion.The results of the immersion corrosion tests and electrochemical experiments show that the corrosion current density(8.56μA/cm^(2))of the alloy with 0.9 wt%Yb addition and hot extrusion is 50.6%lower than the untreated alloy(17.33μA/cm^(2)),and the polarization resistance(9252Ω·cm^(2))was 71.3%higher than the untreated alloy(2654Ω·cm^(2)).The corrosion in the cathode phase in the micro-battery was refined to varying degrees attributable to the addition of Yb and hot extrusion,where the cathode reaction in the corrosion process caused a decrease of the corrosion rate. 展开更多

This paper studied the influence of aging treatment on the corrosion behavior and mechanism of Mg-Y alloys with different Y content through corrosion mass loss test, electrochemical test and corrosion morphologies observation. Results show that the peak-aging times of Mg-(0.25, 2.5, 5, 8 and 15) Y alloys at 250 ℃ were 4, 6, 10, 12 and 16 h. The aging treatment reduced the corrosion resistance of Mg-Y alloys, and the corrosion resistance of Mg-Y alloys became worse with increasing of the aging time. The change magnitude of the open circuit potentials for Mg-(0.25, 2.5)Y alloys was greater than that of Mg-(5, 8 and 15)-Y alloys. The polarization curves of Mg (0.25, 2.5, 5, 8 and 15) Y alloys had the similar shape after aging treatment, and the slopes of the anodic branch were greater than those of the cathodic branches. After aging treatment, the corrosion modes of Mg-0.25Y and Mg-(2.5, 5, 8 and 15) Y alloys were uniform corrosion and pitting corrosion with small local deep corrosion. 展开更多

The effects of the pre-deformation on the microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloys were investigated by means of hardness tests, tensile tests, intergranullar corrosion (IGC) tests and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), respectively. The results show that with the increase of deformation amount, the aging hardening rate increases while the strength of the alloy decreases and then increases. The sample with a pre-deformation of 6% possesses the highest tensile strength due to the refinedly and homogeneously distributed precipitations. The pre-deformation aging accelerates the heterogeneous nucleation of Ω and θ′ phases at dislocations, and also refines the precipitations both in the grains and along the grain boundaries. The precipitation of Ω phase is restrained while that of θ′ phase is accelerated in pre-deformed Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloy compared with the sample without pre-deformation. In addition, the width of the precipitate free zone decreases with increasing the pre-deformation amount, leading to a narrower IGC passageway. This results in an enhanced IGC resistance of Al–Cu–Mg–Ag alloy treated by pre-deformation aging. © 2017, Central South University Press and Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany. 展开更多

The surface morphology of alloy layer of tinplate was studied by means of scanning electron microscopy. By using the layer on layer debonding technology of glow discharge spectrum, the contents of C and O at the boundary of alloy layer and black plate were analyzed. And the corrosion characteristic of cavity of tinplate alloy layer was studied on-line and in-situ by means of electrochemical atomic force microscope. The corrosion depth of cavity of alloy layer in-situ after different corrosion time was measured. The results show that the cavity of alloy layer is a critical factor causing rapid decline of corrosion resistance of tinplate, and the formation of cavity of alloy layer is due to incorrect pretreatment of black plate before electrotinning. The cavity of alloy layer is the internal factor causing pitting corrosion of tinplate when the tinplate is applied to food packaging material. And the dynamic equation of pitting corrosion generated in the cavity of alloy layer conforms to logarithm law. 展开更多

以95%冷轧获得的纳米晶Incoloy 800合金为对象,研究了不同退火温度下纳米晶材料的微观组织及在模拟Cl-的腐蚀环境中电化学腐蚀行为。结果表明:冷轧态合金微观组织得到显著细化,500℃退火后合金得到初步回复,温度升高至600℃晶界变得清晰... 以95%冷轧获得的纳米晶Incoloy 800合金为对象,研究了不同退火温度下纳米晶材料的微观组织及在模拟Cl-的腐蚀环境中电化学腐蚀行为。结果表明:冷轧态合金微观组织得到显著细化,500℃退火后合金得到初步回复,温度升高至600℃晶界变得清晰,同时出现析出相TiC及Cr_(23)C_(6)。700℃退火后合金发生明显的再结晶,析出相Cr_(23)C_(6)大量增加,弥散分布于基体。冷轧态Incoloy 800合金耐腐蚀性能最好,高密度位错为表面钝化膜的形成提供位点,进入活化阶段钝化膜能降低腐蚀速率。其中,600℃退火合金相较其他温度的耐腐蚀性能较好。700℃退火后,Cr_(23)C_(6)相大量析出,耐腐蚀性能最差。 展开更多

目的提高三偏心蝶阀硬密封面Stellite21钴基合金堆焊层的耐磨性和耐蚀性。方法使用行星角磨机充分混合Stellite21粉末和钼(Mo)粉,并采用等离子弧堆焊技术在WCB铸钢上制备了不同质量分数Mo(5.5%、7.5%、10%、12.5%、15%)的堆焊层,使用光... 目的提高三偏心蝶阀硬密封面Stellite21钴基合金堆焊层的耐磨性和耐蚀性。方法使用行星角磨机充分混合Stellite21粉末和钼(Mo)粉,并采用等离子弧堆焊技术在WCB铸钢上制备了不同质量分数Mo(5.5%、7.5%、10%、12.5%、15%)的堆焊层,使用光学显微镜(OM)、扫描电子显微镜(SEM)、能谱仪(EDS)和X射线衍射仪(XRD),对堆焊层的金相组织、成分分布和物相组成进行分析,并通过维氏硬度测试、摩擦磨损、电化学腐蚀试验和浸泡腐蚀试验,探究不同Mo含量对堆焊层硬度、耐磨性和耐蚀性的影响。结果随着Mo含量的增加,堆焊层中柱状晶的持续生长受到抑制,形成了更多短小的枝晶和等轴晶;Mo_(2)C相集中在晶界处,Co_(7)Mo_(6)和Co_(3)Mo相的含量增加,而Cr_(23)C_(6)型碳化物相的含量相对减少;堆焊层的硬度随着Mo含量的增加而提高,当Mo质量分数达到15%时,显微硬度达到最高值398HV,与含5.5%Mo的堆焊层相比,硬度提高了约19.5%;当Mo质量分数为10%时,堆焊层的摩擦系数和磨损量最低,分别降低了约17.2%和79.1%,且堆焊层也表现出高腐蚀电位和低腐蚀电流密度,分别为-0.999 V和1.552×10^(-5) A/cm^(2),浸泡腐蚀完后的失重系数K降至最低,K值为1.54%。结论加入4.5%Mo粉,使Stellite21钴基合金的Mo含量达到10%(质量分数),能有效提升密封面堆焊层的硬度、耐磨性和耐蚀性,延长三偏心蝶阀的工作使用寿命。 展开更多
