The structure and morphology of the powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The electrochemical and overcharge performances of Al2O3-coated and uncoated LiMn2O4 batteries were investigated and compared. The uncoated LiMn2O4 battery shows capacity loss of 16.5% after 200 cycles, and the coated LiMn2O4 battery only shows 12.5% after 200 cycles. The uncoated LiMn2O4 battery explodes and creates carbon, MnO, and Li2CO3 after 3C/10 V overcharged test, while the coated LiMn2O4 battery passes the test. The steadier structure, polarization of electrode and modified layer are responsible for the safety performance.展开更多

The reaction mechanism of solid state reaction at room temperature was investigated. The structure and morphology of the coating materials were investigated by XRD, SEM and TEM. The electrochemical performances of uncoated and Al2O3-coated LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 cathode materials were studied within a voltage window of 3.00?4.35 V at current density of 30 mA/g. SEM, TEM and EDS analytical results indicate that the surface of LiNi1/3Mn1/3Co1/3O2 particles is coated with very fine Al2O3 composite, which leads to the improved cycle ability though a slight decrease in the first discharge capacity is observed. It is proposed that surface treatment by solid state reaction at room temperature is a simple and effective method to improve the cycle performance of LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 particles.展开更多

The zeta potentials of different α-Fe2O3 suspensions with different additives were measured as a function of p H to identify the optimum suspension condition for deposition. Electrophoretic depositions of α-Fe2O3 coatings under different applied electric fields and deposition time were studied and the effects of applied voltages and deposition time on deposition rates and thicknesses were investigated. The particle packing densities of the deposits at various applied voltages and deposition time were also analyzed by a scanning electron microscope(SEM). The results show that crack-free α-Fe2O3 coatings with uniform microstructure and good adherence to the nickel substrates are successfully obtained. Electrophoretic deposited α-Fe2O3 coating from aqueous suspension is a feasible, low-cost and environmental friendly method.展开更多

The columnar grains in the TBCs disappear after the HIPIB irradiation at ion current densities of 100-200 A/cm^2 and the irradiated surface becomes smooth and densified after remelting and ablation due to the HIPIB irradiation. The thermally grown oxide (TGO) layer thickness of the irradiated TBCs is smaller than that of the original TBCs. After 15 cycles, the mass gains of the original TBCs and those irradiated by ion current densities of 100 and 200 A/cm^2 due to the oxidation are found to be 0.8-0.9, 0.6-0.7, and 0.3-0.4 mg/cm^2, respectively. The inward diffusion of oxygen through the irradiated TBCs is significantly impeded by the densified top layer formed due to irradiation, which is the main reason for the improved overall oxidation resistance of the irradiated TBCs.展开更多

The chromium coatings differed in with/without the addition of La2O3. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS), X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and microhardness tester were employed to investigate the surface morphologies, surface element distributions, microstructures, phase constitutions and microhardness of the coatings. Friction-wear tests of the P110 steel substrate and the coatings were conducted in air at ambient temperature and humidity. The results show that 'uniform and continuous coatings are formed on P110 steel regardless of adding La2O3 or not. The chromium coatings consist of Cr23C6, Cr7C3, and (Cr, Fe)7C3. The La2O3-added chromium coating is more beneficial in terms of surface morphology, microstructure, thickness and microharduess as compared with the coating without adding La2O3. Chromizing treatment significantly improves the surface hardness and wear resistance of the P110 steel. The wear resistance of the tested samples can be sorted in the following sequence: La2O3-coating 〉 no RE-coating 〉bare P110 steel.展开更多

Both thermal barrier coatings exhibited similar overall porosities, but significantly different microstructures. Application of the special spray powder prepared by high energy ball milling led to a microstructure with numerous inclusions of semi-molten agglomerates, which introduced a plethora of clusters of fine pores into the coating and several more microstructural defects. This microstructure resulted in a significantly better thermal shock behavior compared to the conventional thermal barrier coating. The heat treatment of both thermal barrier coatings atθ=1150℃for t=100 h led to a sintering of both coatings. The results were reduced overall porosity and significantly increased fracture toughness. A correlation between the fracture toughness of both coatings after the heat treatment and the thermal shock life time could not be identified.展开更多
