Firstly, it helps to understand the mechanism and conditions of unwanted ignition inside charged propellant under accident stimulus.Secondly, evaluates the risk of a shell crevice in a solid rocket motor(SRM) under a falling or overturning scene. In the present study, an innovative visual crevice extrusion experiment is designed using a dropweight apparatus. The dynamic responses of NEPE propellant during extrusion loading, including compaction and compression, rapid shear flow into the crevice, stress concentration, and ignition reaction, have been firstly observed using a high-performance high-speed camera. The ignition reaction is observed in the triangular region of the NEPE propellant sample above the crevice when the drop weight velocity was 1.90 m/s. Based on the user material subroutine interface UMAT provided by finite element software LS-DYNA, a viscoelastic-plastic model and dual ignition criterion related to plastic shear dissipation are developed and applied to the local ignition response analysis under crevice extrusion conditions. The stress concentration occurs in the crevice location of the propellant sample, the shear stress is relatively large, the effective plastic work is relatively large, and the ignition reaction is easy to occur. When the sample thickness decreases from 5 mm to 2.5 mm, the shear stress increases from 22.3 MPa to 28.6 MPa, the critical value of effective plastic work required for ignition is shortened from 1280 μs to 730 μs, and the triangular area is easily triggering an ignition reaction. The propellant sample with a small thickness is more likely to stress concentration, resulting in large shear stress and effective work, triggering an ignition reaction.展开更多

However, the practical applications in explosives and propellants of boron have been limited by long ignition delay time and low combustion efficiency. Herein, nano-Al and graphene fluoride(GF) as surface activated materials are employed to coat boron(B) particles to improve ignition and combustion performance. The reaction heat of nano-Al coated B/KNO_(3)and GF coated B/KNO_(3)are 1116.83 J/g and 862.69 J/g, respectively, which are higher than that of pure B/KNO_(3)(823.39 J/g). The ignition delay time of B/KNO_(3)could be reduced through nano-Al coating. The shortest ignition delay time is only 75 ms for B coated with nano-Al of 8 wt%, which is much shorter than that of pure B/KNO_(3)(109 ms). However, the ignition delay time of B/KNOcoated with GF has been increased from 109 to 187 ms. B coated with GF and nano-Al shown significantly influence on the pressure output and flame structure of B/KNO_(3). Furthermore, the effects of B/O ratios on the pressure output and ignition delay time have been further fully studied. For B/KNO_(3)coated with nano-Al and GF, the highest pressures are 88 KPa and 59 KPa for B/O ratio of 4:6, and the minimum ignition delay time are 94 ms and 148 ms for B/O ratio of 7:3. Based on the above results, the reaction process of boron coated with GF and nano-Al has been proposed to understand combustion mechanism.展开更多

文摘The arc ignition system based on charring polymers has advantages of simple structure, low ignition power consumption and multiple ignitions, which bringing it broadly application prospect in hybrid propulsion system of micro/nano satellite. However, charring polymers alone need a relatively high input voltage to achieve pyrolysis and ignition, which increases the burden and cost of the power system of micro/nano satellite in practical application.Adding conductive substance into charring polymers can effectively decrease the conducting voltage which can realize low voltage and low power consumption repeated ignition of arc ignition system. In this paper,a charring conductive polymer ignition grain with a cavity geometry in precombustion chamber, which is composed of PLA and multiwall carbon nanotubes(MWCNT)was proposed. The detailed ignition processes were analyzed and two different ignition mechanisms in the cavity of charring conductive polymers were revealed. The ignition characteristics of charring conductive polymers were also investigated at different input voltages, ignition grain structures, ignition locations and injection schemes in a visual ignition combustor. The results demonstrated that the ignition delay and external energy required for ignition were inversely correlated with the voltages applied to ignition grain. Moreover, the incremental depth of cavity shortened the ignition delay and external energy required for ignition while accelerated the propagation of flame. As the depth of cavity increased from 2 to 6 mm(at 50 V),the time of flame propagating out of ignition grain changed from 235.6 to 108 ms,and values of mean ignition delay time and mean external energy required for ignition decreased from 462.8 to 320 ms and 16.2 to 10.75 J,respectively. The rear side of the cavity was the ideal ignition position which had a shorter ignition delay and a faster flame propagation speed in comparison to other ignition positions.Compared to direct injection scheme, swirling injection provided a more favorable flow field environment in the cavity, which was beneficial to ignition and initial flame propagation, but the ignition position needed to be away from the outlet of swirling injector. At last, the repeated ignition characteristic of charring conductive polymers was also investigated. The ignition delay time and external energy required for ignition decreased with repeated ignition times but the variation was decreasing gradually.

文摘Energetic Semiconductor bridge(ESCB)based on reactive multilayered films(RMFs)has a promising application in the miniature and intelligence of initiator and pyrotechnics device.Understanding the ignition enhancement mechanism of RMFs on semiconductor bridge(SCB)during the ignition process is crucial for the engineering and practical application of advanced initiator and pyrotechnics devices. In this study,a one-dimensional(1D)gas-solid two-phase flow ignition model was established to study the ignition process of ESCB to charge particles based on the reactivity of Al/MoO_(3) RMFs.In order to fully consider the coupled exothermic between the RMFs and the SCB plasma during the ignition process, the heat release of chemical reaction in RMFs was used as an internal heat source in this model. It is found that the exothermal reaction in RMFs improved the ignition performance of SCB.In the process of plasma rapid condensation with heat release, the product of RMFs enhanced the heat transfer process between the gas phase and the solid charge particle, which accelerated the expansion of hot plasma, and heated the solid charge particle as well as gas phase region with low temperature. In addition,it made up for pressure loss in the gas phase.During the plasma dissipation process, the exothermal chemical reaction in RMFs acted as the main heating source to heat the charge particle, making the surface temperature of the charge particle, gas pressure, and gas temperature rise continuously. This result may yield significant advantages in providing a universal ignition model for miniaturized ignition devices.

文摘5-amino-4-nitrobenzo[1,2-c:3,4-c']bis([1,2,5]oxadiazole)1,6-dioxide(CL-18)exhibits significant potential as an initiating explosive. However, its current synthesis process remains non-scalable due to low yields and safety risks. In this study,we have developed a simple and safe synthetic route for CL-18.It was synthesized from 3,5-dihaloanisole in a four-step reaction with an overall yield exceeding 60%,surpassing all reported yields in the literature.Subsequently, recrystallization of CL-18 was successfully achieved by carefully selecting appropriate solvents and antisolvents to reduce its mechanical sensitivity.Ultimately, when DMF-ethanol was employed as the recrystallization solvent system, satisfactory product yield(>90%)and reduced mechanical sensitivity(IS=15 J;FS=216 N)were obtained.Additionally,CL-18 is derived from the rearrangement of oxygen atoms on i-CL-18 furoxan, and a comparative analysis of their physicochemical properties was conducted. The thermal stability of both compounds is similar, with onset decomposition temperatures recorded at 186 and 182℃respectively.Similarly,they exhibit 5 s breaking point temperatures of 236 and 237℃.Additionally,we present novel insights into the positional-isomerization-laser-ignition performance of CL-18 and its isomer i-CL-18 using laser irradiation for the first time.Remarkably, our findings demonstrate that i-CL-18 exhibits enhanced laser sensitivity,as it can be directly ignited by a 1064 nm wavelength laser, whereas CL-18 lacks this characteristic.

文摘Understanding the response of solid combustibles under high radiant fluxes is critical in predicting the thermal damage from extreme scenarios.Unlike the more moderate radiant fluxes in conventional hydrocarbon fires, extreme events such as strong explosion, concentrated sunlight and directed energy can generate dynamic radiant fluxes at the MW/m^(2) level, creating a unique threat to materials. This study investigates the pyrolysis and spontaneous ignition behaviors of corrugated cardboard by using both experimental and numerical methods, under 10-cm dynamic high radiant fluxes ranging from 0.2 to 1.25 MW/m^(2) for 10 s.The spontaneous ignition process at dynamic high radiant fluxes was recorded and quantified. Two ignition modes were found at the critical radiant flux of 0.4 MW/m^(2),namely hot-gas spontaneous ignition and hot-residue piloted ignition. The latter is not the focus of this paper due to its extremely small probability of occurrence. The research reveals that the increase in flux intensity induces shorter delay times for both pyrolysis and ignition, lower ignition energy density, along with a corresponding rise in the critical mass flux and surface temperature at ignition moment. The simulation results are generally aligned with the experimental findings, despite some divergences may be attributed to model simplifications and parameter assumptions. The work contributes to a deeper insight into material behavior under extreme radiation, with valuable implications for fire safety and hazard assessment.

文摘Investigating the ignition response of nitrate ester plasticized polyether(NEPE) propellant under dynamic extrusion loading is of great significant at least for two cases. The propellant sample with a small thickness is more likely to stress concentration, resulting in large shear stress and effective work, triggering an ignition reaction.

文摘Reactive material projectiles can be an extremely efficient lethality enhancement technology that incorporates the defeat mechanisms of chemical energy and kinetic energy. This paper presents such a research on the enhanced ignition behavior of reactive material projectiles impacting a fuel-filled tank.Firstly, the ignition process description of the fuel-filled tank impacted by inert metal and reactive material projectiles is presented.Secondly, ballistic impact experiments are performed to investigate the ignition effects of the fuel-filled tank impacted by reactive material versus tungsten alloy projectiles with mass matched. The fuel tank used for the experiments is a cylindrical steel casing structure filled with aviation kerosene and sealed with aluminum cover plates on both ends using screw bolts. The experimental results indicate that, compared with impacts from tungsten alloy projectiles, there is dramatically enhanced structural damage to the fuel-filled tank and an enhanced ignition effect caused by reactive material projectile impacts. Finally,an analytical model is developed,by which the effects of the aluminum cover plate thickness on critical structural failure energy of the fuel-filled tank and the total energy of the reactive material projectile deposited into the fuel-filled tank are discussed. The analysis shows a good agreement with the experiments.

文摘MgH_(2),TiH_(2),and ZrH_(2) are three typical metal hydrides that have been gradually applied to composite explosives and propellants as additives in recent years. To evaluate ignition sensitivity and explosion severity, the Hartmann device and spherical pressure vessel were used to test ignition energy and explosion pressure, respectively. The results showed that the ignition sensitivity of ZrH_(2),TiH_(2) and MgH_(2) gradually increased. When the concentration of MgH_(2) is 83.0 g/m^(3) in Hartmann device, the ignition energy attained a minimum of 10.0 mJ.The explosion pressure of MgH_(2) were 1.44 times and 1.76 times that of TiH_(2) and ZrH_(2),respectively,and the explosion pressure rising rate were 3.97 times and 9.96 times that of TiH_(2) and ZrH_(2),respectively,through the spherical pressure vessel. It indicated that the reaction reactivity and reaction rate of MgH_(2) were higher than that of TiH_(2) and ZrH_(2).In addition,to conduct in edepth theoretical analysis of ignition sensitivity and explosion severity, gas production and combustion heat per unit mass of ZrH_(2),TiH_(2) and MgH_(2) were tested by mercury manometer and oxygen bomb calorimetry. The experimental results revealed that MgH_(2) had a relatively high gas production per unit mass(5.15 mL/g),while TiH_(2) and ZrH_(2) both had a gas production of less than 2.0 mL/g.Their thermal stability gradually increased, leading to a gradual increase in ignition energy.Furthermore, compared with theoretical combustion heat, the combustion ratio of MgH_(2),TiH_(2) and ZrH_(2) was more than 96.0%,with combustion heat value of 29.96,20.94 and 12.22 MJ/kg,respectively,which was consistent with the explosion pressure and explosion severity test results.

文摘Boron is a very promising and highly attractive fuel because of high calorific value. Based on the above results, the reaction process of boron coated with GF and nano-Al has been proposed to understand combustion mechanism.

文摘HNS-IV(Hexanitrostilbene-IV) is the main charge of the exploding foil initiators(EFI), and the microstructure of the HNS will directly affect its density, flowability, sensitivity, and stability. HNS microspheres were prepared using droplet microfluidics, and the particle size, morphology, specific surface area, thermal performance, and ignition threshold of the HNS microspheres were characterized and tested. The results shown that the prepared HNS microspheres have high sphericity, with an average particle size of 20.52 μm(coefficient of variation less than 0.2), and a specific surface area of 21.62 m^(2)/g(6.87 m^(2)/g higher than the raw material). Without changing the crystal structure and thermal stability of HNS-IV, this method significantly enhances the sensitivity of HNS-IV to short pulses and reduces the ignition threshold of the slapper detonator to below 1000 V. This will contribute to the miniaturization and low cost of EFI.

文摘Experimental investigation has been carried out for laser ignition and combustion of nanothermites based on aluminum and oxides of copper, bismuth and molybdenum.Ultrasonic mixing of nanosized powders was used to produce compositions. For thermite ignition, initiating laser pulse with a maximum intensity of 770 W/cm2 was generated by a laser diode with a wavelength of 808 nm.The ignition delay times, the minimum initiation energy density, and the average burning rate at various thermite densities and mass fractions of components were determined by recording the emission of radiation of the reaction products using a multichannel pyrometer jointly with a high-speed video camera. The effect of adding carbon black on the threshold parameters of a laser pulse was also studied.Based on the obtained results, certain assumptions were put forward with regard to the mechanism of nanothermites’ignition by laser radiation and their burning. In particular, the assumptions were made on the two-stage process of the reaction initiation and jet burning mechanism of porous nanothermites.

文摘Aviation heavy-fuel spark ignition(SI)piston engines have been paid more and more attention in the area of small aviation.Aviation heavy-fuel refers to aviation kerosene or light diesel fuel, which is safer to use and store compared to gasoline fuel. And diesel fuel is more suitable for small aviation application on land.In this study, numerical simulation was performed to evaluate the possibility of switching from gasoline direct injection spark ignition(DISI)to diesel DISI combustion.Diesel was injected into the cylinder by original DI system and ignited by spark. In the simulation, computational models were calibrated by test data from a DI engine.Based on the calibrated models, furthermore, the behavior of diesel DISI combustion was investigated. The results indicate that diesel DISI combustion is slower compared to gasoline, and the knock tendency of diesel in SI combustion is higher. For a diesel/air mixture with an equivalence ratio of 0.6 to 1.4,higher combustion pressure and faster burning rate occur when the equivalence ratios are 1.2 and 1.0,but the latter has a higher possibility of knock. In summary, the SI combustion of diesel fuel with a rich mixture can achieve better combustion performance in the engine.

文摘To ensure the control of the precision of air-fuel ratio(AFR)of port fuel injection(PFI)spark ignition(SI)engines,a chaos radial basis function(RBF)neural network is used to predict the air intake flow of the engine. The data of air intake flow is proved to be multidimensionally nonlinear and chaotic. The RBF neural network is used to train the reconstructed phase space of the data. The chaos algorithm is employed to optimize the weights of output layer connection and the radial basis center of Gaussian function in hidden layer. The simulation results obtained from Matlab/Simulink illustrate that the model has higher accuracy compared to the conventional RBF model. The mean absolute error and the mean relative error of the chaos RBF model can reach 0.0017 and 0.48,respectively.

文摘A 500 N model engine filled with LO2/GCH4 was designed and manufactured.A series of ignition attempts were performed in it by both head spark plug and body spark plug. Results show that the engine can be ignited but the combustion cannot be sustained when head spark plug applied as the plug tip was set in the gaseous low-velocity zone with thin spray. This is mainly because flame from this zone cannot supply enough ignition energy for the whole chamber. However, reliable ignition and stable combustion can be achieved by body spark plug.As the O/F ratio increases from 2.61 to 3.49,chamber pressure increases from 0.474 to 0.925 MPa and combustion efficiency increases from 57.8%to 95.1%.This is determined by the injector configuration, which cannot produce the sufficiently breakup of the liquid oxygen on the low flow rate case.

文摘Rapid and effective ignition of pyrotechnic countermeasure decoy flares is vitally important to the safety of expensive military platforms such as aircraft. Qineti Q is conducting experimental and theoretical research into pyrotechnic countermeasure decoy flares. A key part of this work is the development and application of improved models to increase the understanding of the ignition processes occurring for these flares. These models have been implemented in a two-dimensional computational model and details are described in this paper. Previous work has conducted experiments and validated the computational model at ambient temperature and pressure. More recently the computational model has been validated at pressures down to that equivalent to 40,000 feet but at ambient temperature(~290 K).This paper describes further experimental work in which the ignition delays of the priming material in inert countermeasure decoy flares were determined for pressures down to 40,000 feet and at temperature extremes of -40℃ and 100℃ Also included in this paper is a comparison of the measured and predicted ignition delays at low pressures and temperature extremes. The agreement between the predicted and measured ignition delays is acceptable.

文摘Safety of underground ammunition storage is an important issue, especially during the accidental ignition of missiles. This work investigates the pressure and temperature distribution of the multi-layer underground ammunition storage with a pressure relief duct during the accidental ignition process of the missile.A large-scale experiment was carried out using a multi-layered restricted space with a pressure relief duct to simulate the underground ammunition store and a solid rocket motor to simulate the accidental ignition of the missile. The results show that when the motor gas mass flow increased by5.6 times, the maximum pressure of the ammunition storage increased by 5.87 times. At a certain motor flow rate, when the pressure relief exhaust area at the end of the relief duct was reduced by 1/2,the maximum pressure on the first layer did not change. But the rate of pressure relief was reduced and the time delayed for the pressure of ammunition store to drop to zero.In this experiment, when the motor ignition position was located in to the third layer ammunition chamber, the maximum pressure was reduced by 32.9%and also reduced the rate of change of pressure. In addition, for the experimental conditions, the theoretical analysis of the pressure relief of the ammunition storage is given by a simplified model.Based on the findings, some suggestions to the safety protection design of ammunition store are proposed.
