The aim of this study is to develop coupled matrix formulations to characterize the dynamic interaction between the vehicle,track,and tunnel.The vehicle–track coupled system is established in light of vehicle–track coupled dynamics theory.The physical characteristics and mechanical behavior of tunnel segments and rings are modeled by the finite element method,while the soil layers of the vehicle–track–tunnel(VTT)system are modeled as an assemblage of 3-D mapping infinite elements by satisfying the boundary conditions at the infinite area.With novelty,the tunnel components,such as rings and segments,have been coupled to the vehicle–track systems using a matrix coupling method for finite elements.The responses of sub-systems included in the VTT interaction are obtained simultaneously to guarantee the solution accuracy.To relieve the computer storage and save the CPU time for the large-scale VTT dynamics system with high degrees of freedoms,a cyclic calculation method is introduced.Apart from model validations,the necessity of considering the tunnel substructures such as rings and segments is demonstrated.In addition,the maximum number of elements in the tunnel segment is confirmed by numerical simulations. 展开更多

In this paper,Runge-Kutta Discontinuous Galerkin(RKDG) finite element method is presented to solve the onedimensional inviscid compressible gas dynamic equations in a Lagrangian coordinate.The equations are discretized by the DG method in space and the temporal discretization is accomplished by the total variation diminishing Runge-Kutta method.A limiter based on the characteristic field decomposition is applied to maintain stability and non-oscillatory property of the RKDG method.For multi-medium fluid simulation,the two cells adjacent to the interface are treated differently from other cells.At first,a linear Riemann solver is applied to calculate the numerical ?ux at the interface.Numerical examples show that there is some oscillation in the vicinity of the interface.Then a nonlinear Riemann solver based on the characteristic formulation of the equation and the discontinuity relations is adopted to calculate the numerical ?ux at the interface,which suppresses the oscillation successfully.Several single-medium and multi-medium fluid examples are given to demonstrate the reliability and efficiency of the algorithm. 展开更多

In this model, the effects of adjustment to the length of a suspender on its geometry stiffness matrix are stressed. The FEM equations of mechanics characteristics, natural frequency and main mode are set up based on the first order matrix perturbation theory. Applicantion of the proposed model to analyze a real arch bridge proved the improvement in the simulation precision of dynamical characteristics of the arch bridge by considering the effects of suspender length variation. 展开更多

The study of impact dynamics is a complex problem that should consider strength models and state equations to describe the mechanical behavior of materials. The current method has several features, l) Discrete equations of unstructured finite volume method naturally follow the conservation law. 2) Display dual-time stepping method is suitable for the analysis of impact dynamic problems of time accurate solutions. 3) The method did not produce grid distortion when large deformation appeared. A discontinuous Galerkin finite element method (DG-FEM) is developed for solving the axisymmetric Euler equations based on two-dimensional conservation laws. The method is used to simulate the unsteady-state underexpanded axisymmetric jet. Several flow property distributions along the jet axis, including density, pres- sure and Mach number are obtained and the qualitative flowfield structures of interest are well captured using the proposed method, including shock waves, slipstreams, traveling vortex ring and multiple Mach disks. Two Mach disk locations agree well with computational and experimental measurement results. It indicates that the method is robust and efficient for solving the unsteady-state underexpanded axisymmetric jet. 展开更多

A contact bolt model is proposed as a new modeling technique to investigate the complex structure with bolted joints for modal analysis and compared with the coupled bolt model, and the test results are given. Among these models, the coupled bolt model provides the best accurate responses compared with the experimental results. The contact bolt model shows the best effectiveness and usefulness in view of operational time. The bolt models proposed in this study are adopted for a dynamic characteristic analysis of a large diesel engine consisting of several parts which are connected by many bolts. The dynamic behavior of the entire engine structure was investigated by experiment. The coupled bolt model and the contact bolt model were applied to model the assembly of engine with high preload. The experimental results are in good agreement with the finite element method (FEM) results. Compared with the other models, the contact bolt model presented in this paper is more effective and useful in view of operational time and experience of analysts. 展开更多

Determination of ballistic performance of an armor solution is a complicated task and evolved significantly with the application of finite element methods(FEM) in this research field.The traditional armor design studies performed with FEM requires sophisticated procedures and intensive computational effort,therefore simpler and accurate numerical approaches are always worthwhile to decrease armor development time.This study aims to apply a hybrid method using FEM simulation and artificial neural network(ANN) analysis to approximate ballistic limit thickness for armor steels.To achieve this objective,a predictive model based on the artificial neural networks is developed to determine ballistic resistance of high hardness armor steels against 7.62 mm armor piercing ammunition.In this methodology,the FEM simulations are used to create training cases for Multilayer Perceptron(MLP) three layer networks.In order to validate FE simulation methodology,ballistic shot tests on 20 mm thickness target were performed according to standard Stanag 4569.Afterwards,the successfully trained ANN(s) is used to predict the ballistic limit thickness of 500 HB high hardness steel armor.Results show that even with limited number of data,FEM-ANN approach can be used to predict ballistic penetration depth with adequate accuracy. 展开更多

We review recent advances in the finite element method (FEM) simulations of interactions between waves and structures. Our focus is on the potential theory with the fully nonlinear or second-order boundary condition. The present paper has six sections. A review of previous work on interactions between waves and ocean structures is presented in Section one. Section two gives the mathematical formulation. In Section three, the finite element discretization, mesh generation and the finite element linear system solution methods are described. Section four presents numerical methods including time marching schemes, computation of velocity, remeshing and smoothing techniques and numerical radiation conditions. The application of the FEM to the wave-structure interactions are presented in Section five followed by the concluding remarks in Section six. 展开更多

Base d on fluid velocity potential, an ALE finite element formulation for the analysi s of nonlinear sloshing problems has been developed. The ALE kinemat ical description is introduced to move the computational mesh independently of f luid motion, and the container fixed noninertial coordinate system is employed to establish the governing equations so that the mesh is needed to be updated in this coordinate system only. This leads to a very simple mesh moving algorithm which makes it easy to trace the motion of the moving boundaries and the free su rface without producing undesirable distortion of the computational mesh. The fi nite element method and finite difference method are used spacewise and timewise , respectively. A numerical example involving either forced horizontal oscillati on or forced pitching oscillation of the fluid filled container is presented to illustrate the effectiveness and the robustness of the method. Obtaining its dynamic response is a challenging task and usually achieved by numerical methods. The objectives of the study are twofold. Firstly, the discrete singular convolution (DSC) is used for the first time to analyze the impact dynamics. Secondly, the efficiency of various numerical methods for dynamic analysis is explored via an example of a flexible rod hit by a rigid ball. Three numerical methods, including the conventional finite element (FE) method, the DSC algorithm, and the spectral finite element (SFE) method, and one proposed modeling strategy, the improved spectral finite element (ISFE) method, are involved. Numerical results are compared with the known analytical solutions to show their efficiency. It is demonstrated that the proposed ISFE modeling strategy with a proper length of con- ventional FE yields the most accurate contact stress among the four investigated models. It is also found that the DSC algorithm is an alternative method for collision problems. 展开更多

Firstly,a model that bears relation to erroneous elements only is derived.This model is termed local errors model,which reduces orders and computational loads compared with global stiffness matrix. 剪切型断裂是岩土工程中常见的破坏模式,了解剪切破坏机理并准确预测剪切型裂纹的萌生、扩展过程对保障工程结构的安全性与稳定性具有重要意义.文章建立了基于比例边界有限元法(scaled boundary finite element methods,SBFEM)和非局部... 剪切型断裂是岩土工程中常见的破坏模式,了解剪切破坏机理并准确预测剪切型裂纹的萌生、扩展过程对保障工程结构的安全性与稳定性具有重要意义.文章建立了基于比例边界有限元法(scaled boundary finite element methods,SBFEM)和非局部宏-微观损伤模型的剪切型裂纹动态开裂模拟方法,定义了基于偏应变概念的物质点对的正伸长量,可作为预测剪切型裂纹扩展行为的动态开裂准则,一点的损伤定义为该点影响域范围内连接的物质键损伤的加权平均值,而物质键的损伤则与基于偏应变概念的物质点对的正伸长量相关联,并引入能量退化函数建立结构域几何拓扑损伤与能量损失之间的关系,将拓扑损伤与应力应变联系起来,通过能量退化函数修正了SBFEM的刚度系数矩阵,得到了子域在损伤状态下的刚度矩阵,推导了考虑结构损伤的SBFEM动力控制方程,采用Newmark隐式算法对控制方程进行时间离散.最后,通过3个典型算例验证了建议的模型可较好地模拟剪切型断裂问题,能够很好地捕捉剪切型裂纹的扩展路径,并得到较为准确的载荷-位移曲线. 展开更多

A two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element model based on an improved cohesive element method was developed to simulate interfacial debonding, sliding friction, and residual thermal stresses in SiC composites during single-fiber push-out tests to extract the interfacial bond strength and frictional stress. The numerical load–displacement curves agree well with experimental curves,indicating that this cohesive element method can be used for calculating the interfacial properties of SiC composites.The simulation results show that cracks are most likely to occur at the ends of the experimental sample, where the maximum shear stress is observed and that the interfacial shear strength and constant sliding friction stress decrease with an increase in temperature. Moreover, the load required to cause complete interfacial failure increases with the increase in critical shear strength, and the composite materials with higher fiber volume fractions have higher bearing capacities. In addition, the initial failure load increases with an increase in interphase thickness. 展开更多

The flexible structure of photonic crystal fibre not only offers novel optical properties but also brings some difficulties in keeping the fibre structure in the fabrication process which inevitably cause the optical properties of the resulting fibre to deviate from the designed properties. Therefore, a method of evaluating the optical properties of the actual fibre is necessary for the purpose of application. Up to now, the methods employed to measure the properties of the actual photonic crystal fibre often require long fibre samples or complex expensive equipments. To our knowledge, there are few studies of modeling an actual photonic crystal fibre and evaluating its properties rapidly. In this paper, a novel method, based on the combination model of digital image processing and the finite element method, is proposed to rapidly model the optical properties of the actual photonic crystal fibre. Two kinds of photonic crystal fibres made by Crystal Fiber A/S are modeled. It is confirmed from numerical results that the proposed method is simple, rapid and accurate for evaluating the optical properties of the actual photonic crystal fibre without requiring complex equipment. 展开更多

A new approach to modifying the stiffness and mass matrices of finite element models is presented to improve the calculation precision.By measuring the mode frequencies and shapes of both of the original and the new structures with changed stiffness and mass,the stiffness and mass matrices of the finite element model can be updated through matrices calculation and solving algebra equations.Taking a multi-freedom model as an example,the relation between the number of the modes and the correction precision of stiffness and mass matrix elements is researched.The facility and precision of the method are totally confirmed especially when the modeling error is known limited to a definite local range.The feasibility of the approach is proven by an effective engineering application to the model updating of a wing piece used in flutter test. 展开更多

针对二维介质目标的电磁成像问题,将正余弦算法(Sine Cosine Algorithm,SCA)与有限元方法(Finite Element Method,FEM)和不变性测试方程(Measured Equation of Invariance,MEI)进行结合提出一种新的成像方法。将FEM与MEI进行结合求解二... 针对二维介质目标的电磁成像问题,将正余弦算法(Sine Cosine Algorithm,SCA)与有限元方法(Finite Element Method,FEM)和不变性测试方程(Measured Equation of Invariance,MEI)进行结合提出一种新的成像方法。将FEM与MEI进行结合求解二维介质目标的电磁散射正问题,即求解Helmholtz方程。其中,MEI保证边界截断的精度,FEM适用于复杂介质目标的准确模拟。对于电磁散射逆问题,引入SCA并加以改进提出一种新的重构方法。该方法采用等效原理与格林函数的渐近式求得远区散射场,以测量的散射场和计算的散射场最大偏差为目标函数,采用改进的SCA优化介质参数,使目标函数达到最小值,以此重构散射体。为提高计算效率,采用MPI算法进行并行计算。文中采用基准函数展示了改进的SCA算法的快速收敛性,并采用非规则的均匀介质柱目标验证了成像方法的正确性。 展开更多
