Pulse echo accumulation is commonly employed in coherent Doppler wind LiDAR(light detection and ranging)under the assumption of steady wind. Here, the measured spectral data are analyzed in the time dimension and frequency dimension to cope with the temporal wind shear and achieve the optimal accumulation time.A hardware-efficient algorithm combining the interpolation and cross-correlation is used to enhance the wind retrieval accuracy by reducing the frequency sampling interval and then reduce the spectral width calculation error. Moreover, the temporal broadening effect and spatial broadening effect are decoupled according to the strategy we developed. 展开更多

In order to obtain the elemental compositions of the projectile and target materials during 2A12 aluminum projectile shot on a natural dolomite plate, three kinds of experiments have been conducted using a spectral acquirement system established on a two-stage light gas gun for impact velocities ranging from 2.20 km/s to 4.20 km/s, at the same projectile incidence angle of 30°. Experimental results show that the elemental compositions of the projectile and target materials in the strong shock experiments have a good agreement with the original elemental compositions of the projectile and target. In addition, the relations between spectral radiant intensity and elemental compositions of the projectile and target materials have been obtained for different impact velocities, in which the spectral radiant intensity of the main elements in the material increases with increasing impact velocity, and more elements appear with increasing impact velocity since more energy would result from a higher velocity impact. 展开更多

Energy resolution calibration is crucial for gamma-ray spectral analysis,as measured using a scintillation detector.A locally constrained regularization method was proposed to determine the resolution calibration parameters.First,a Monte Carlo simulation model consistent with an actual measurement system was constructed to obtain the energy deposition distribution in the scintillation crystal.Subsequently, the regularization objective function is established based on weighted least squares and additional constraints.Additional constraints were designed using a special weighting scheme based on the incident gamma-ray energies.Subsequently,an intelligent algorithm was introduced to search for the optimal resolution calibration parameters by minimizing the objective function. The most appropriate regularization parameter was determined through mathematical experiments. When the regularization parameter was 30,the calibrated results exhibited the minimum RMSE.Simulations and test pit experiments were conducted to verify the performance of the proposed method. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can determine resolution calibration parameters more accurately than the traditional weighted least squares, and the test pit experimental results show that the R-squares between the calibrated and measured spectra are larger than 0.99.The accurate resolution calibration parameters determined by the proposed method lay the foundation for gamma-ray spectral processing and simulation benchmarking. 展开更多

Among the numerous methods for predicting fatigue life, the spectral method is accepted as the most reliable. Although the theory behind spectral analysis is straight-forward, the analysis itself is complicated and time-consuming because it is closely related to critical technical details such as the application of fatigue loading (wave pressures and the inertial forces due to cargoes), the extraction of the stress, and the calculation of stress RAO. Here, four key technical details-loading application, displacement boundary condition, the calculation of stress RAO, and the extraction of the fatigue stress-are discussed thoroughly. For each aspect, a resolution is presented based on the finite element pre-and post-processing software MSC/PATRAN or FE solver MSC/NASTRAN. The resolutions are effective and efficient, which can help engineers perform spectral fatigue analysis accurately and faster. 展开更多

In scenarios such as vehicle radiation monitoring and unmanned aerial vehicle radiation detection, rapid measurements using a NaI(Tl)detector often result in low photon counts, weak characteristic peaks, and significant statistical fluctuations. These issues can lead to potential failures in peak-searching-based identification methods. To address the low precision associated with short-duration measurements of radionuclides, this paper proposes an identification algorithm that leverages heterogeneous spectral transfer to develop a low-count energy spectral identification model.Comparative experiments demonstrated that transferring samples from 26 classes of simulated heterogeneous gamma spectra aids in creating a reliable model for measured gamma spectra. With only 10%of target domain samples used for training, the accuracy on real low-count spectral samples was 95.56%.This performance shows a significant improvement over widely employed full-spectrum analysis methods trained on target domain samples. The proposed method also exhibits strong generalization capabilities, effectively mitigating overfitting issues in low-count energy spectral classification under short-duration measurements. 展开更多

We developed a scheme based on wood surface novel wood recognition spectral features that aimed to solve three problems. First was elimination of noise in some bands of wood spectral reflection curves. Second was improvement of wood feature selection based on analysis of wood spectral data. The wood spectral band is 350-2500 nm, a 2150D vector with a spectral sampling interval of 1 nm. We developed a feature selection proce- dure and a filtering procedure by solving the eigenvalues of the dispersion matrix. Third, we optimized the design for the indoor radian's mounting height. We used a genetic algorithm to solve the optimal radian's height so that the spectral reflection curves had the best classification infor- mation for wood species. Experiments on fivecommon wood species in northeast China showed overall recogni- tion accuracy 〉95 % at optimal recognition velocity. 展开更多

We used a weather research and forecasting model to simulate a torrential rainstorm that occurred in Xinjiang,China during June 16–17,2016.The model successfully simulated the rainfall area, precipitation intensity, and changes in precipitation. We identified a clear wave signal using the two-dimensional fast Fourier transform method;the waves propagated westwards, with wavelengths of 45–20 km,periods of 50–120 min,and phase velocities mainly concentrated in the-25 m/s to-10 m/s range. The results of wavelet cross-spectral analysis further confirmed that the waves were gravity waves, peaking at 11:00 UTC,June 17,2016.The gravity wave signal was identified along 79.17–79.93°E,81.35–81.45°E and 81.5–81.83°E.The gravity waves detected along 81.5–81.83°E corresponded well with precipitation that accumulated in 1 h,indicating that gravity waves could be considered a rainstorm precursor in future precipitation forecasts. 展开更多

This study introduces a novel algorithm to detect and identify radioactive materials in urban settings using time-series detector response data. To address the challenges posed by varying backgrounds and to enhance the quality and reliability of the energy spectrum data, we devised a temporal energy window. This partitioned the time-series detector response data, resulting in energy spectra that emphasize the vital information pertaining to radioactive materials. We then extracted characteristic features of these energy spectra, relying on the formation mechanism and measurement principles of the gammaray instrument spectrum. These features encompassed aggregated counts, peak-to-flat ratios, and peak-to-peak ratios. This methodology not only simplified the interpretation of the energy spectra's physical significance but also eliminated the necessity for peak searching and individual peak analyses. Given the requirements of imbalanced multi-classification, we created a detection and identification model using a weighted k-nearest neighbors(KNN) framework. This model recognized that energy spectra of identical radioactive materials exhibit minimal inter-class similarity. Consequently, it considerably boosted the classification accuracy of minority classes, enhancing the classifier's overall efficacy. We also executed a series of comparative experiments. Established methods for radionuclide identification classification, such as standard KNN, support vector machine, Bayesian network, and random tree, were used for comparison purposes. Our proposed algorithm realized an F1 measure of 0.9868 on the time-series detector response data, reflecting a minimum enhancement of 0.3% in comparison with other techniques. The results conclusively show that our algorithm outperforms others when applied to time-series detector response data in urban contexts. 展开更多

This article lays out a unified theory for dynamics of vehicle-pavement interaction under moving and stochastic loads. It covers three major aspects of the subject: pavement surface, tire-pavement contact forces, and response of continuum media under moving and stochastic vehicular loads. Under the subject of pavement surface, the spectrum of thermal joints is analyzed using Fourier analysis of periodic function. One-dimensional and two-dimensional random field models of pavement surface are discussed given three different assumptions. Under the subject of tire-pavement contact forces, a vehicle is modeled as a linear system. At a constant speed of travel, random field of pavement surface serves as a stationary stochastic process exciting vehicle vibration, which, in turn, generates contact force at the interface of tire and pavement. The contact forces are analyzed in the time domain and the frequency domains using random vibration theory. It is shown that the contact force can be treated as a nonzero mean stationary process with a normal distribution. Power spectral density of the contact force of a vehicle with walking-beam suspension is simulated as an illustration. Under the subject of response of continuum media under moving and stochastic vehicular loads, both time-domain and frequency-domain analyses are presented for analytic treatment of moving load problem. It is shown that stochastic response of linear continuum media subject to a moving stationary load is a nonstationary process. Such a nonstationary stochastic process can be converted to a stationary stochastic process in a follow-up moving coordinate. 展开更多

This paper presents an overview of experimental investigations conducted at China University of Mining and Technology Beijing(CUMTB) on roadway excavation using large-scale geomechanical model tests. The simulated sedimentary rocks are composed by alternating layers of sandstone, mudstone and coal seam inclined at varied angles with respect to the horizontal including 0°, 45°, 60°, and 90°. During the excavation, infrared thermography was employed to detect the thermal response of the surrounding rocks under excavation. The obtained raw thermograms were processed using denoising algorithm, data reduction procedure and Fourier analysis. The infrared temperature(IRT) characterizes the overall rock response; the processed thermal images represent the structural behavior, and the Fourier spectrum describes damage development in the frequency domain. Deeper understanding was achieved by the comparative analyses of excavation in differently inclined rock masses using the image features of IRTs, thermal images and Fourier spectra. 展开更多

Typhoons have caused considerable damage to individual tree and forest ecosystems. To reduce windinduced tree damage and better predict the risk of damage, improving our understanding of wind-tree interactions during strong wind conditions is important. To this purpose, wind characteristics and movements of an individual Betula platyphylla Suk.in a forest stand were monitored during three typhoons(Bavi,Maysak and Haishen). Results revealed that the average wind twists with increasing height, with a large twist gradient within the canopy and a small twist gradient outside the canopy. The maximum wind twist angle was approximately 110°.The disturbance of trees increases the turbulence intensity of the wind field in the canopy. The maximum power of the wind spectra and the turbulence anisotropy of the three turbulence components decrease with increasing height.B.platyphylla did not resonate with the wind in any of the typhoons but responded strongly to gusts near its free vibration peak frequencies. The peak frequency of the mechanical transfer function of B.platyphylla is essentially the same as the peak frequency of the response power spectra. The mechanical transfer func-tion of the wind-induced response of the tree is almost the same as the transfer function of the damped harmonic oscil-lator which has similar characteristics to coniferous trees. 展开更多

In order to improve the properties by chemical modification and to optimize the alkali concentration, we treated Borassus fruit fine fibers with aqueous sodium hydroxide solutions of different concentra- tions. In each case, the tensile properties of the fibers were determined. The morphology of the untreated and alkali treated fibers was observed using scanning electron microscope. The surface of the fibers became rough on alkali treatment. The tensile properties of the fibers improved on alkali treatment. The fibers attained maximum tensile properties when treated with 15% aqueous sodium hydroxide solution and decreased thereafter. The crystallinity index of the fibers showed a similar trend. The thermal stability of the alkali treated fibers was found to be higher than that of untreated fibers. Further, the char content was maximum for fibers treated with alkali having concentration of 15% and above. The chemical composition indicated that the percentageof a-cellulose was maximum when the fibers were treated with 15% aqueous sodium hydroxide solution and then decreased thereafter thus indicating the beginning of degradation of the fibers at higher concentrations. Thus, the optimum concentration of NaOH was established as 15% for alkali treatment of the Borassus fibers. 展开更多

The numerical results of coupled motions for a frigate and a supply ship have a good agreement with the experimental results. Based on the 3D coupled motions of two ships, a spectral analysis is employed to clearly observe the effect of speed, clearance and wave heading on the significant relative motion amplitude (SRMA) of two ships.
