However, improvements in regression rates and energy properties of monotonous 3D printed fuels have been limited. This study explores the impact of poly(vinylidene fluoride) and polydopamine-coated aluminum particles on the thermal and combustion properties of 3D printed hybrid rocket fuels. Physical self-assembly and anti-solvent methods were employed for constructing composite μAl particles. Characterization using SEM, XRD, XPS, FTIR, and μCT revealed a core-shell structure and homogeneous elemental distribution. Thermal analysis showed that PVDF coatings significantly increased the heat of combustion for aluminum particles, with maximum enhancement observed in μAl@PDA@PVDF(denoted as μAl@PF) at 6.20 k J/g. Subsequently, 3D printed fuels with varying pure and composite μAl particle contents were prepared using 3D printing. Combustion tests indicated higher regression rates for Al@PF/Resin composites compared to pure resin, positively correlating with particle content. The fluorocarbon-alumina reaction during the combustion stage intensified Al particle combustion, reducing residue size. A comprehensive model based on experiments provides insights into the combustion process of PDA and PVDF-coated droplets. This study advances the design of 3D-printed hybrid rocket fuels, offering strategies to improve regression rates and energy release, crucial for enhancing solid fuel performance for hybrid propulsion.展开更多

This study investigates the mechanisms underlying the enhanced dynamic response of reinforced concrete blast doors with four-sided restraints in confined space. Explosion tests with TNT charges ranging from 0.15 kg to 0.4 kg were conducted in a confined space, capturing overpressure loads and the dynamic response of the blast door. An internal explosion model incorporating the afterburning effect was developed using LS-DYNA software and validated against experimental data. The results reveal that the TNT afterburning effect amplifies both the initial peak overpressure and the quasi-static overpressure, resulting in increased deformation of the blast door.Within the 0.15-0.4 kg charge range, the initial overpressure peak and quasi-static overpressure increased by an average of 1.79 times and 2.21 times, respectively. Additionally, the afterburning effect enhanced the blast door's deflection by 177%. Compared to open-space scenarios, the cumulative deflection of the blast door due to repeated shock wave impacts is significantly greater in confined spaces. Furthermore, the quasi-static pressure arising from the structural constraints sustains the blast door's deflection at a high level.展开更多

文摘Recent advancements in additive manufacturing(AM)have revolutionized the design and production of complex engineering microstructures.Despite these advancements, their mathematical modeling and computational analysis remain significant challenges. This research aims to develop an effective computational method for analyzing the free vibration of functionally graded(FG)microplates under high temperatures while resting on a Pasternak foundation(PF).This formulation leverages a new thirdorder shear deformation theory(new TSDT)for improved accuracy without requiring shear correction factors.Additionally, the modified couple stress theory(MCST)is incorporated to account for sizedependent effects in microplates. The PF is characterized by two parameters including spring stiffness(k_(w))and shear layer stiffness(k_(s)).To validate the proposed method, the results obtained are compared with those of the existing literature.Furthermore, numerical examples explore the influence of various factors on the high-temperature free vibration of FG microplates. These factors include the length scale parameter(l),geometric dimensions, material properties, and the presence of the elastic foundation. The findings significantly enhance our comprehension of the free vibration of FG microplates in high thermal environments. In addition, the findings significantly enhance our comprehension of the free vibration of FG microplates in high thermal environments. In addition, the results of this research will have great potential in military and defense applications such as components of submarines, fighter aircraft, and missiles.

文摘Graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs)have attracted tremendous interest due to their unique properties and bonding capabilities. This study focuses on the effect of GNP dispersion on the mechanical, thermal, and morphological behavior of GNP/epoxy nanocomposites. This study aims to understand how the dispersion of GNPs affects the properties of epoxy nanocomposite and to identify the best dispersion approach for improving mechanical performance.A solvent mixing technique that includes mechanical stirring and ultrasonication was used for producing the nanocomposites.Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used to investigate the interaction between GNPs and the epoxy matrix. The measurements of density and moisture content were used to confirm that GNPs were successfully incorporated into the nanocomposite. The findings showed that GNPs are successfully dispersed in the epoxy matrix by combining mechanical stirring and ultrasonication in a single step, producing well-dispersed nanocomposites with improved mechanical properties.Particularly, the nanocomposites at a low GNP loading of 0.1 wt%,demonstrate superior mechanical strength,as shown by increased tensile properties, including improved Young's modulus(1.86 GPa),strength(57.31 MPa),and elongation at break(4.98).The nanocomposite with 0.25 wt%GNP loading performs better, according to the viscoelastic analysis and flexural properties(113.18 MPa).Except for the nanocomposite with a 0.5 wt%GNP loading, which has a higher thermal breakdown temperature, the thermal characteristics do not significantly alter. The effective dispersion of GNPs in the epoxy matrix and low agglomeration is confirmed by the morphological characterization. The findings help with filler selection and identifying the best dispersion approach, which improves mechanical performance. The effective integration of GNPs and their interaction with the epoxy matrix provides the doorway for additional investigation and the development of sophisticated nanocomposites. In fields like aerospace, automotive, and electronics where higher mechanical performance and functionality are required,GNPs'improved mechanical properties and successful dispersion present exciting potential.
文摘Rotary friction welding is a highly effective solid-state technique for joining dissimilar materials, which offers the potential for significant weight reduction without compromising strength.Traditionally, during rotary friction welding, the severely deformed material,or flash,is expelled from the interface and machined away to achieve the desired joint geometry. However, this work introduces a novel approach:trapping the flash within the joint to improve joint properties. The study investigates two different interface geometry combinationsdflat-flat and flat-taper interfaces.Previous research shows that Ni interlayer between steel and titanium can enhance the joint strength. This study builds on the existing knowledge(effect of Ni interlayer)by examining the influence of interface geometry to further improve the dissimilar joint performance. The experimental results, including tensile testing and microstructural characterization, highlight the superior performance of the flat-taper interface. The modified geometry minimizes flash loss, providing a cavity that retains both the flash and the Ni interlayer within the joint. This retention promotes dynamic recrystallization, resulting in refined grain structures near the interface. Moreover, the trapped Ni interlayer effectively prevents the formation of brittle Fe-Ti intermetallic compounds at the dissimilar material interface. The findings reveal that the flat-taper interface improved joint strength by an impressive 105%compared to the flat-flat interface. This innovative geometry modification demonstrates the potential to enhance mechanical properties of dissimilar joints through better flash and interlayer management.

文摘This paper proposed a new libration decoupling analytical speed function(LD-ASF)in lieu of the classic analytical speed function to control the climber's speed along a partial space elevator to improve libration stability in cargo transportation. The LD-ASF is further optimized for payload transportation efficiency by a novel coordinate game theory to balance competing control objectives among payload transport speed, stable end body's libration, and overall control input via model predictive control. The transfer period is divided into several sections to reduce computational burden. The validity and efficacy of the proposed LD-ASF and coordinate game-based model predictive control are demonstrated by computer simulation.Numerical results reveal that the optimized LD-ASF results in higher transportation speed, stable end body's libration, lower thrust fuel consumption, and more flexible optimization space than the classic analytical speed function.

文摘To investigate the differences in combustion and energy release characteristics of metastable intermolecular composite materials composed of aluminum alloys and polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF)with different compositions, two types of alloys were selected:Al-Mg and Al-Si.Pure aluminum powder of the same size was also chosen for comparison. The PVDF-coated metal particle composites and the mixtures of PVDF with metal particles were prepared using electrospray(ES)and physical blending methods(PM),respectively.A systematic study was conducted on the morphology, compositional structure, combustion performance, energy release characteristics, and thermal reactivity of the fabricated composites and their combustion products through scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS),X-ray diffraction(XRD),combustion performance experiments, closed vessel pressure tests, and simultaneous thermogravimetric-differential scanning calorimetry(TG-DSC).The experimental results indicated that the PVDF-coated metal particles prepared by the electrospray method exhibited a distinct core-shell structure, with the metal particles in close contact with the PVDF matrix.Compared to the PM blended materials, the ES composites demonstrated superior combustion performance and energy release characteristics during combustion.Analysis of different metal fuel systems under identical preparation conditions revealed that Al-Mg and Al-Si fuels modulate the combustion and energy release properties of aluminum alloy-PVDF MICs through two distinct pathways.

文摘Inspired by nature's self-similar designs, novel honeycomb-spiderweb based self-similar hybrid cellular structures are proposed here for efficient energy absorption in impact applications. The energy absorption is enhanced by optimizing the geometry and topology for a given mass. The proposed hybrid cellular structure is arrived after a thorough analysis of topologically enhanced self-similar structures. The optimized cell designs are rigorously tested considering dynamic loads involving crush and high-velocity bullet impact.Furthermore, the influence of thickness, radial connectivity, and order of patterning at the unit cell level are also investigated. The maximum crushing efficiency attained is found to be more than 95%,which is significantly higher than most existing traditional designs.Later on,the first and second-order hierarchical self-similar unit cell designs developed during crush analysis are used to prepare the cores for sandwich structures.Impact tests are performed on the developed sandwich structures using the standard 9-mm parabellum. The influence of multistaging on impact resistance is also investigated by maintaining a constant total thickness and mass of the sandwich structure. Moreover,in order to avoid layer-wise weak zones and hence, attain a uniform out-of-plane impact strength,off-setting the designs in each stage is proposed. The sandwich structures with first and second-order self-similar hybrid cores are observed to withstand impact velocities as high as 170 m/s and 270 m/s,respectively.
文摘Additive Manufacturing(AM)can provide customized parts that conventional techniques fail to deliver. One important parameter in AM is the quality of the parts,as a result of the material extrusion 3D printing(3D-P)procedure.This can be very important in defense-related applications, where optimum performance needs to be guaranteed. The quality of the Polyetherimide 3D-P specimens was examined by considering six control parameters, namely, infill percentage, layer height, deposition angle, travel speed, nozzle, and bed temperature. The quality indicators were the root mean square(Rq)and average(Ra)roughness, porosity, and the actual to nominal dimensional deviation. The examination was performed with optical profilometry, optical microscopy, and micro-computed tomography scanning. The Taguchi design of experiments was applied, with twenty-five runs, five levels for each control parameter,on five replicas. Two additional confirmation runs were conducted,to ensure reliability.Prediction equations were constructed to express the quality indicators in terms of the control parameters.Three modeling approaches were applied to the experimental data,to compare their efficiency,i.e.,Linear Regression Model(LRM),Reduced Quadratic Regression Model, and Quadratic Regression Model(QRM).QRM was the most accurate one, still the differences were not high even considering the simpler LRM model.

文摘Traffic engineering such as tunnels in various altitudinal gradient zone are at risk of accidental explosion, which can damage personnel and equipment.Accurate prediction of the distribution pattern of explosive loads and shock wave propagation process in semi-enclosed structures at various altitude environment is key research focus in the fields of explosion shock and fluid dynamics. The effect of altitude on the propagation of shock waves in tunnels was investigated by conducting explosion test and numerical simulation.Based on the experimental and numerical simulation results,a prediction model for the attenuation of the peak overpressure of tunnel shock waves at different altitudes was established. The results showed that the peak overpressure decreased at the same measurement points in the tunnel entrance under the high altitude condition. In contrast,an increase in altitude accelerated the propagation speed of the shock wave in the tunnel. The average error between the peak shock wave overpressure obtained using the overpressure prediction formula and the measured test data was less than15%,the average error between the propagation velocity of shock waves predicted values and the test data is less than 10%.The method can effectively predict the overpressure attenuation of blast wave in tunnel at various altitudes.

文摘3D printing technology enhances the combustion characteristics of hybrid rocket fuels by enabling complex geometries. This study advances the design of 3D-printed hybrid rocket fuels, offering strategies to improve regression rates and energy release, crucial for enhancing solid fuel performance for hybrid propulsion.

文摘The role of the adhesive layer in the ballistic performance of ceramic multi-layer armour system is complex and multi-faceted,often with trade-offs between single-and multi-hit performance. However, research focused on untangling the underlying impact of varying adhesive cohesive or adhesion properties is limited and sometimes appears to provide conflicting conclusions.Comparison between the available studies is also often difficult due to variations in armour systems or ballistic testing being conducted. This review scrutinises the available research, identifying six critical properties of an adhesive layer in determining ballistic performance:elastic modulus, fracture strain, acoustic impedance, tensile bond strength, shear bond strength, and thickness. The impact of each of these properties on ballistic performance is discussed in detail, with clear description of the underlying processes involved, allowing clear optimisation goals to be established depending on the ceramic armour specification.

文摘The afterburning of TNT and structural constraints in confined spaces significantly amplify the blast load, leading to severe structural damage. Furthermore, the quasi-static pressure arising from the structural constraints sustains the blast door's deflection at a high level.
文摘This study focused on the production of polypropylene(PP)/silver(Ag)composites via additive manufacturing. This study aimed to enhance the quality of medical-grade PP in material extrusion(MEX)three-dimensional printing(3DP)by improving its mechanical properties while simultaneously adding antibacterial properties. The latter can find extremely important and versatile properties that are applicable in defense and security domains.PP/Ag nanocomposites were prepared using a novel method based on a reaction occurring while mixing appropriate quantities of the starting polymers and additives, namely polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP)as the matrix material and silver nitrate(AgNO_(3))as the filler. This process produced three-dimensional(3D)printed filaments, which were then used to create specimens for a series of standardized tests. It was found that the mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were enhanced in relation to pristine PP,especially for the PP matrix with various loadings of AgNO_(3)and PVP,such as 5.0 wt%and 2.5 wt%,respectively. The voids, inclusions, and actual-to-nominal dimensions also showed improved results. The 3DP specimens exhibited a more effective biocidal performance against Staphylococcus aureus than Escherichia coli, which developed an inhibition zone only in the case of PP with filler loading percentages of AgNO_(3)and PVP at 10.0 wt%and 5.0 wt%,respectively Compounds possessing such properties can be beneficial for various applications requiring increased mechanical properties and biocidal capabilities, such as in the Defence or medical industries.

文摘To address the problems of low accuracy by the CONWEP model and poor efficiency by the Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian(CEL)method in predicting close-range air blast loads of cylindrical charges,a neural network-based simulation(NNS)method with higher accuracy and better efficiency was proposed. The NNS method consisted of three main steps.First, the parameters of blast loads, including the peak pressures and impulses of cylindrical charges with different aspect ratios(L/D)at different stand-off distances and incident angles were obtained by two-dimensional numerical simulations.Subsequently, incident shape factors of cylindrical charges with arbitrary aspect ratios were predicted by a neural network. Finally, reflected shape factors were derived and implemented into the subroutine of the ABAQUS code to modify the CONWEP model, including modifications of impulse and overpressure. The reliability of the proposed NNS method was verified by related experimental results.Remarkable accuracy improvement was acquired by the proposed NNS method compared with the unmodified CONWEP model. Moreover, huge efficiency superiority was obtained by the proposed NNS method compared with the CEL method. The proposed NNS method showed good accuracy when the scaled distance was greater than 0.2 m/kg^(1/3).It should be noted that there is no need to generate a new dataset again since the blast loads satisfy the similarity law,and the proposed NNS method can be directly used to simulate the blast loads generated by different cylindrical charges. The proposed NNS method with high efficiency and accuracy can be used as an effective method to analyze the dynamic response of structures under blast loads, and it has significant application prospects in designing protective structures.
