The asymmetric creep aging behaviors of a pre-treated Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy under high and low stresses have been investigated for high precision creep age forming application of aluminum integral panels.With the increase...The asymmetric creep aging behaviors of a pre-treated Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy under high and low stresses have been investigated for high precision creep age forming application of aluminum integral panels.With the increase of applied stress,the creep strains under the tensile stresses are higher than those of compressive stresses and the asymmetry of creep strain is more obvious.However,the mechanical properties of tensile stress creep aged samples are lower than those of compressive stress creep aged samples.Dislocation density,dislocation moving velocity and the proportion of precipitates directly lead to the asymmetry of creep strain and mechanical properties after tensile-compressive creep aging process.In addition,the tensile and compressive stresses have little effect on the width of the precipitate-free zone(PFZ).It indicates that in the high stress creep age forming process of the pretreated Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy,the tensile stress promotes the dislocation motion to obtain a better creep strain but weakens its mechanical properties compared with the compressive stress.In the field of civil aviation aircraft component manufacturing,the introduction of tension and compression stress asymmetry into the creep constitutive model may improve the accuracy of creep age forming components.展开更多

In this study, we investigated the effect of aging temperature(143 °C-163 °C) on the creep behavior of Al-Li-S4 aluminum alloy and their mechanical properties at room temperature. The mechanical properties were tested by tensile testing, and the microstructural evolution at different aging temperatures was examined by transmission electron microscopy. Results show that the creep strains and the room-temperature mechanical properties after creep aging increase with the aging temperature. As the aging temperature increases, the creep strain increases from 0.018% at 143 °C to 0.058% at 153 °C, and then to 0.094% at 163 °C. Within 25 h aging, the number of creep steps increases and the duration time of the same steps is shortened with the growth of aging temperatures. Therefore, the increase in aging temperatures accelerates the progress of the entire creep. Two main strengthening precipitates θ′(Al2 Cu) and T1(Al2 Cu Li) phases were characterized. This work indicates that the creep strain and mechanical properties of Al-Li-S4 alloys can be improved by controlling aging temperatures.展开更多
While pre-deformation is often conducted before aging treatment to increase the strength and microhardness of 2195 Al-Li alloy, it often increases the fatigue crack growth(FCG) rate and thus reduces the fatigue life o...While pre-deformation is often conducted before aging treatment to increase the strength and microhardness of 2195 Al-Li alloy, it often increases the fatigue crack growth(FCG) rate and thus reduces the fatigue life of the alloy.To determine the effects and causes of pre-deformation and heat treatment on the mechanical properties and FCG rate of2195 Al-Li alloy, and to provide a suitable calculation model for the FCG rate under different pre-deformation conditions, 2195 Al-Li alloy specimens with different degrees of pre-rolling(0, 3%, 6%, and 9%) were investigated. The experimental results indicate that with the increase of pre-rolling, the density of the T1phase and the uniformity of the S′distribution and the microhardness, tensile strength, and yield strength of the alloy increase and at the same time the FCG rate increases, and thus the fatigue life is reduced. It was also found that the normalized stress intensity factor of elastic modulus(E) can be applied to correlate the FCG rate of pre-rolled 2195 Al-Li alloy with constant C and K parameters.展开更多
Fiber metal laminates(FMLs),a kind of lightweight material with excellent comprehensive performance,have been successfully applied in aerospace.FMLs reinforced with carbon fiber have better mechanical properties than ...Fiber metal laminates(FMLs),a kind of lightweight material with excellent comprehensive performance,have been successfully applied in aerospace.FMLs reinforced with carbon fiber have better mechanical properties than those with glass or aramid fiber.However,carbon fiber binding metal may lead to galvanic corrosion which limits its application.In this paper,electrochemical methods,optical microscope and scanning electron microscope were used to analyze the corrosion evolution of carbon fiber reinforced aluminum laminate(CARALL)in corrosive environment and explore anti-corrosion ways to protect CARALL.The results show that the connection between carbon fiber and aluminum alloy changes electric potential,causing galvanic corrosion.The galvanic corrosion will obviously accelerate CARALL corroded in solution,leading to a 72.1%decrease in interlaminar shear strength,and the crevice corrosion has a greater impact on CARALL resulting in delamination.The reduction of interlaminar shear strength has a similar linear relationship with the corrosion time.In addition,the adhesive layers between carbon fiber and aluminum alloy cannot protect CARALL,while side edge protection can effectively slow down corrosion rate.Therefore,the exposed edges should be coated with anti-corrosion painting.CARALL has the potential to be used for aerospace components.展开更多

Increasing temperature resulted in a noteworthy change in creep ageing behaviour, including a variation in creep curves, an improvement in creep rate during early creep ageing, and an increased creep strain. Tensile tests indicate that the specimen aged at higher temperature reached peak strength within a shorter time. Transmission electron microscopy(TEM) was employed to explore the effect of temperature on the microstructural evolution of the AA2198 during creep ageing deformation. Many larger dislocations and even tangled dislocation structures were observed in the sample aged at higher temperature. The number of T1 precipitates increased at higher ageing temperature at the same ageing time. Based on the analysed results, a new mechanism, considering the combined effects of the formation of larger dislocation structures induced by higher temperature and diffusion of solute atoms towards these larger or tangled dislocations, was proposed to explain the effect of temperature on microstructural evolution and creep behaviour.展开更多
The key parameters of the adhesive layer of a reinforcing patch are of great significance and affect the ability to suppress crack propagation in an Al–Li alloy patch-reinforced structure.This paper proposes a method...The key parameters of the adhesive layer of a reinforcing patch are of great significance and affect the ability to suppress crack propagation in an Al–Li alloy patch-reinforced structure.This paper proposes a method to determine the key parameters of the adhesive layer of adhesively bonded joints in the Al–Li alloy patch-reinforced structure.A zero-thickness cohesive zone model(CZM)was selected to simulate the adhesive layer’s fracture process,and an orthogonal simulation was designed to compare against the test results.A three-dimensional progressive damage model of an Al–Li alloy patch-reinforced structure with single-lap adhesively bonded joints was developed.The simulation’s results closely agree with the test results,demonstrating that this method of determining the key parameters is likely accurate.The results also verify the correctness of the cohesive strength and fracture energy,the two key parameters of the cohesive zone model.The model can accurately predict the strength and fracture process of adhesively bonded joints,and can be used in research to suppress crack propagation in Al–Li alloy patch-reinforced structures.展开更多

A linear kernel LS-SVM model is firstly developed for input/output(I/O) approximation. The LS-SVM control law is then derived directly from this developed model without any approximation and assumption. It further proves that the control error is fully equal to the LS-SVM modeling error. This means that a desirable control performance can be achieved because the LS-SVM has been proven to have an outstanding modeling ability in the previous studies. Case studies finally demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed LS-SVM control approach.展开更多

Modeling, buckling behaviors and ultimate strength prediction of stiffened panels were investigated. The modeling specification including nonlinear finite element model and imperfections generation, and post-buckling analysis procedure of stiffened plates were demonstrated. And a software tool using set-based finite element method was developed and executed in the MSC. Marc environment. Different types of stiffen panels of marine structures have been employed to investigate the buckling behavior and assess the validity in the estimation of ultimate strength. A comparison between results of the generally accepted methods, experiments and the software tool developed was demonstrated. It is shown that the software tool can predict the ultimate capacity of stiffened panels with imperfections with a good accuracy.展开更多
