The ballistic perforation response of composite fabrics made by combining plain weaves with seaming technology is reported and compared with conventional unseamed plain fabrics.The effect of the seaming technique on the ballistic resistance of aramid plain fabrics is investigated by varying the seaming process.The ballistic experiment uses 8 mm diameter spherical projectiles to impact different fabric sample targets with velocities of 230 m/s and 400 m/s.The ballistic performance of seamed and unseamed fabrics is characterized by the specific energy absorption(SEA)values of the fabrics.The results show that the seamed fabric has a better energy absorption capacity than the unseamed fabric,e.g.,the SEA of sample 5(seaming lines on every four yarns in a single-ply fabric system)is 135%of sample 1(plain weave without thread seaming).In the single-layer system,the effect of the seaming technique on the energy absorption of the fabric in significant when considering seaming density,seaming orientation,seaming distance,and seaming material on the plain fabric;In addition,it is found that in multi-layer systems,seamed panels(e.g.,sample 7)exhibit better ballistic performance than multi-layer fabrics(e.g.,sample 2),and the specific energy absorption of sample 7 is approximately 156%and 200%of sample 6 and sample 2,respectively.Meanwhile,the energy absorption of the fabric decreases with the increase of impact velocity,which is related to the energy absorption mechanism of the soft fabric system at high impact velocities.The yarn pull-out tests shows that the constraint provided by the seaming thread increases the friction between the fabric-forming yarns.However,when the constraint exceeds a certain level,it is detrimental to the energy absorption of the fabric,which may be due to the overconstraint of yarn mobility. 展开更多

This paper relates to highly dispersed supported Pd/MWCNTs and Fd/a-Al2O3 catalysts prepared by biological reduction method. The physico-chemical properties and the difference in catalytic activity of Pd catalysts prepared by bio- logical reduction method and chemical method, respectively, were investigated using XRD, TEM and specific surface char- acterization methods. The catalytic properties of catalysts were studied through activity evaluation means. The test results showed that the catalysts prepared by biological method were characteristic of small Pd nanoparticle size, good dispersion and low agglomeration, while possessing a high activity and stability in styrene hydrogenation reaction in comparison with catalysts prelgared via the chemical method. 展开更多

This paper has studied the vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) for the salt-containing extractive distillation of the 1-propanol/water system. Binary VLE data were measured for the systems of 1-propanol (1)/KAc (4), ethanediol (3)/KAc (4), and 1-propanol (1)/ethanediol (3), with the VLE data correlated with the NRTL model in order to obtain the model parameters of these binary systems. The binary VLE data cited in technical literature were correlated to obtain the model parameters for other binary systems. VLE data of ternary and quaternary systems predicted by the NRTI.: model agreed well with the literature data. The influence of KAc, ethanediol, and the KAc/ethanediol mixture on volatility between 1-propanol and water was investigated respectively. Test results showed that the above-mentioned materials (KAc, ethanediol) and their mixture (KAc and ethanediol) have different influence on the volatility. When x3=0.5, and x4=0.05, the azeotropic point can be elimi- nated. The NRTL model method of salt-containing VLE is simple and effective for the prediction of the system's VLE data. 展开更多

By using a double electron probe the electron density and electron temperature were measured during the low temperature plasma (LTP) treatment of wool fabrics. The dependences of the electron density upon the power, pressure and the plasma-treating time was studied. The effects on the wool fabrics' shrinkage were studied. The results showed that the angle of the double electrostatic probe and the area of the treated fabrics had a strong impact on the density measurement. The felt-proof property of wool fabrics treated with an argon plasma was better than that with a nitrogen plasma. The gas, power and pressure of the LTP treatment all affected the electron density. The electron density increased with the increase in power and pressure. The electron density did not change significantly with treating time, in a certain range of both power and pressure of the LTP treatment. 展开更多

Three types of experiments were carried out. (1) IR spectra of the gas-phase propylene, benzene and isopropyl benzene were recorded. (2) IR spectra of the above-mentioned substances as adsorbates that have combined with the zeolite wafer were recorded. (3) IR spectra of the reaction modes were recorded. The test results showed that the alkytation reaction over the zeolite β was ascribed to the mechanism of carbonium ions, whereas the alkylation reaction over the zeolite MCM-22 was ascribed to the synchronous reaction mechanism. 展开更多

In this work,ethylene glycol monomethylether(EE) was chosen as an entrainer for the azeotropic distillation of 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene+1-methyl-2-ethylbenzene system to investigate the influence of the entrainer on vapor liquid equilibrium(VLE) of this system.Three sets of binary VLE data in the system consisting of EE + 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene +1-methyl-2-ethylbenzene were measured using the Dvorak-Boublik still.The binary parameters of NRTL model were correlated by using the likelihood method.The ternary VLE data of the system were measured as well and were predicted by using the binary parameters of NRTL model.The test results indicated that the binary data passed the thermodynamic consistency tests,and the difference between the predicted values of ternary VLE and the experimental data reached the research standard for VLE data.Addition of EE had a great influence on the relative volatility between 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene and 1-methl-2-ethyl-benzene:when the ratio of solvent was 4,and the relative volatility between 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene and 1-methyl-2-ethylbenzene increased from 1.0125(without solvent addition) to 1.283. 展开更多
