摘要
关于洋务企业如何影响近代中国工业发展,学界长期以来存在分歧。本文根据张玉法晚清新式工业企业原始资料构造1857—1911年府级面板数据,量化分析了洋务企业对近代民营工业发展的影响。研究发现:洋务企业的开办会显著促进当地民营工业企业数量的增加,且呈现以省内中心府向外围递减的特征;洋务企业的影响主要源于1895年前官督商办企业的作用,主要是促进轻工业民营企业的发展;洋务企业推动铁路建设,其影响在开通铁路的地区更大。本文为理解中国工业化早期国有企业和民营企业之间的关系提供了历史经验证据。
Using the materials collected by Zhang Yufa张玉法,this study constructs a prefecture-level panel data from 1857 to 1911 to examine the impact of self-strengthening enterprises洋务企业on the development of private industrial enterprise.The empirical results demonstrate a positive effect:First,the establishment of self-strengthening enterprises significantly promoted the entry of local private industrial enterprises,with a decreasing spillover effect from central prefectures within the province to the periphery;Second,this effect mainly stemmed from government-supervised and merchant-operated enterprises before 1895,particulaly in light industries,and Third,the influence of these enterprises was further reinforced by the railway construction,being more pronounced in regions connected to the railway network.This study provides historical evidence to understand the relationship between state-owned enterprises and private industries in the early stage of China’s industrialization.
