Fu Sinian's Inheritage and Development of Traditional Historical Studies and Linguistics

摘要中国现代新考据学派史家傅斯年以现代科学史学观和方法论为依据,对传统历史学和语言学作了批判性地继承与发展,提出了"此虽旧域,其命维新"的学术命题。他指出历史学与语言学密不可分,中国有着将历史学与语言学相结合的悠久历史;传统考据学、特别是清代考据学重视文献考证,主张从语言文字的训诂来研究历史,这种学术传统和方法应当加以继承。然而,传统历史学和语言学又存在诸多缺陷,需要用现代科学史学观和方法加以改造和发展,以建立科学的现代史学与语言学。他借鉴清代考据学以语言学研究思想史的方法,并结合历史学方法,撰写出中国现代思想史和语言学研究的经典之作《性命古训辨证》。傅斯年为中国传统史学和语言学的科学化发展和现代转型做出重要贡献;然而,其理论又有相当的片面性,本质上是唯科学主义的。 Fu Sinian, a historian of new textology in modern China, critically inherited and developed the traditional historical studies and linguistics on the basis of modern scientific historical perspective and methodology and stated the academic mission of modernization("Although old realm, its life is renewed"). He pointed out that historical studies and linguistics could not be divided, and China had a long history in which historical studies and linguistics were linked with each other;traditional textology, particularly textology in the Qing Dynasty, attached importance to the textual research of historical documents and insisted on the study of history with explanations of words;such kind of academic tradition and methodology should be inherited. However, in traditional historical studies and linguistics, there existed many drawbacks which should be changed and developed by modern historical perspective and methodology to establish scientific modern historical studies and linguistics. He had accomplished the classical writing of modern Chinese intellectual history and linguistics Xing Ming Gu Xu Bian Zheng, taking the approach of textology in the Qing Dynasty with the methodology of both linguistics and historical studies. Fu Sinian had made great contribution to the scientific development and modern transformation of traditional historical studies and linguistics in China;nevertheless his theory was also much biased and preferred scientism essentially.
