Introducing a new instrument called the Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) that is capable of observing the real-space images of surface showing
atomic structure in real-time and the electron nature of surface. The commer cially available models of NanoScope I and NanoScops ? were used to investigate the surface structure of nature graphite and electrically conductive amorphous Carbon whiskers. For the first time the tunneling image of nature graphite (001) surface was taken. A surface structure of carbon whisker that resemble the (001) layer of the diamond structure was discovered.
Keywords: Surface structure, Scanning Tunneling Microscope, Tunnel effect, Graphite, Carbon fiber, Distorted tetrohedron
