摘要
The genesis and flourishing of modem aesthetics as a discipline in Chinese education institutes should be traced back to the immediate context of May Fourth Movement. The＇ cultural shock brought by the radical conflict between Western and Chinese traditions impacted greatly on Chinese traditional values which were to be replaced by new literature and new life outlook. The influx of Western modem culture prompted the change of Chinese traditional mindset which has been endowed with a scientific turn and reshaped by a logic system.
